        Classification of behavioral signs of the mares for prediction of the pre-foaling period

        In horse management, the alarm system with sensors in the foaling period enables the breeder can appropriately prepare the time of the parturition. It is important to prevent losses by unpredictable parturition because there are several high risks such as dystocia and the death of foals and mares during foaling. However, unlike analysis in the alarm system that detects specific motions has been widely performed, analysis of classification following specific behavior patterns or number needs to be more organized. Thus, the objective of this study is to classify signs of the specific behaviors of the mares for the prediction of pre-foaling behaviors. Five Thoroughbred mares (9-20 yrs) were randomly selected for observation of the pre-foaling behaviors. The behaviors were monitored for 90 min that was divided into three different periods as 1) from -90 to -60 min, 2) from -60 to -30 min, 3) from -30 min to the time for the discharge of the amniotic fluid, respectively. The behaviors were divided into two different categories as state and frequent behaviors and each specific behavioral pattern for classification was individually described. In the state behaviors, the number of mares in the standing of the foaling group (3.17 ± 0.18<sup>b</sup>) at period 3 was significantly higher than the control group (1.67 ± 0.46<sup>a</sup>). In contrast, the number of the mares in the eating of the foaling group (1.17 ± 0.34<sup>b</sup>) at period 3 was significantly lower than the control group (3.33 ± 0.46<sup>a</sup>). In the frequent behaviors, the weaving of the foaling group was significantly higher than the control group, and looking at the belly of the foaling group was significantly lower than the control group. In period 2, defecation, weaving, and lowering the head of the foaling group were significantly higher than the control group, respectively. In period 3, sitting down and standing up, pawing, weaving, and lowering the head in the foaling group were also significantly higher than the control group. In conclusion, the behavior is significantly different in foaling periods, and the prediction of foaling may be feasible by the detection of the pre-foaling behaviors in the mares.

        김영란법 정책결정과정 분석

        본 연구는 김영란법의 정책결정과정을 분석하고 정책적 함의를 제시하기 위하여 다중흐름모형과 정책옹호연합모형의 융합모형을 활용하였다. 이를 통해 단일모형의 한계를 극복하고 정책결정 과정을 보다 더 정밀히 분석하고자 하였다. 분석결과 문제·정치·대안의 세 가지 흐름이 확인되었고, 흐름들이 독립적으로 흘러가는 가운데 추친옹호연합과 저지옹호연합 간 세 번의 갈등이 발생하였다. 세월호 침몰사고가 외부충격으로 작용하며 국회에서 계류 중이던 김영란법이 다시 주목받게 되었다. 또한 이완구 국무총리 후보자의 녹취록 공개사건이 내부충격으로 발생하며 정책의 창이 열렸다. 이때 김영란법은 국회 본회의를 통과하였으나 옹호연합들 간 갈등은 계속 이어졌고, 헌법재판소의 합헌 판결 끝에 갈등이 소강되고 김영란법은 계획대로 시행되었다. 이러한 분석결과는 실제 정책결정이 우연한 사건 등을 포함한 다양한 요인들의 상호작용을 통해 매우 복잡하게 이루어지기 때문에 체계적인 분석을 위해서는 하나의 모형에만 의존하기 보다는 다양한 모형들의 적절한 수정 또는 융합이 유용함을 보여준다. The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze the policymaking process of Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, often referred to as the Kim Young-ran Act, and suggest the policy implications. Authors use a combined model of the Advocacy Coalition Framework and the Multiple Streams Framework to overcome the limitations of the single model and examines policy change more precisely. Results show that three flows of problems, politics, and alternatives were confirmed, and conflicts between the advocacy coalition occurred three times while the flows flowed independently. The tragic sinking of ferry Sewol was an external shock and attracted the attention to Kim Young-ran Act, which had been pending in the National Assembly. In addition, revealing the tape-recording case of Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo was an internal shock which opened a window of policy. At this moment, Kim Young-ran Act passed the National Assembly plenary session, however, the conflict between the advocacy alliances continued. After the constitutional decision by Constitutional Court, the conflict was lulled and Kim Young-ran Act was implemented as planned. These findings suggest that proper modification or convergence of policy making model is useful for comprehensive and systematic analysis, rather than relying solely on single model, since the actual policy decisions are made very complex interaction of various factors including accidental events.

      • 이온성 염료의 효과적인 제거를 위한 셀룰로오스 기반 고분자 전해질 복합 하이드로겔의 제조 및 특성 분석

        염료는 여러 가지 산업에서 사용되고 있으며 그 종류도 다양하다. 하지만 사용량과 비례하여 염료 폐수로 인한 수질 오염도 증가하고 있다. 폐수 속에 용해되어있는 염료 오염물은 생태계와 인간의 신체건강에 잠재적인 부정적 영향을 끼칠 수 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위한 다양한 연구들이 진행되고 있으며, 목질계 바이오매스 기반 흡착 소재가 이에 대한 해결책이 될 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 셀룰로오스 기반 pH 감응성 수화겔을 제조하여 음이온성 염료인 Acid OrangeⅡ(AO)와 양이온성 염료인 Methylene Blue(MB)를 효과적으로 제거하기 위함이다. 셀룰로오스 기반의 수화겔은 카복시메틸셀룰로오스(CMC)와 폴리에틸렌이민(PEI)를 이용한 고분자 전해질을 가교 공정을 통해 제조하였다. pH 감응성과 수분 환경에서의 안정성을 확보하기 위한 최적 공정을 탐색하여 고분자 및 가교제의 적정 비율을 탐색하였다. pH 조건의 변화에 따른 팽윤도를 통해 pH 감응성을 평가하였으며 주사전자 현미경(FE-SEM)을 통하여 수화겔의 몰폴로지를 관찰하였다. 최종적으로 제조한 수화겔의 이온성 염료에 대한 흡착 성능을 등온흡착, 흡착 동역학 및 열역학적 분석을 통해 확인하였다. 실험결과 수화겔은 AO 397mg/g, MB 208mg/g의 흡착능을 보였다. 바이오 폴리머 기반의 흡착 소재인 셀룰로오스 기반의 수화겔은 염료 흡착 이외에도 다양한 환경 복원 분야에 적용될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

        딥 러닝(Deep learning)기반 동영상 처리 알고리즘을 통한 19대 대선 TV토론 영상분석 : 후보자들의 등장빈도, 표정, 응시방향에 대한 분석

        This study analyzed the frequency of appearance and nonverbal messages of political candidates in the television debates for the 19th presidential election held in 2017. To analyze nonverbal messages, facial expressions (angry, irritated, satisfied, and neutral) and the direction of gaze in the six televison debates, a classification network was constructed using deep learning technology. For this analysis, videos of six television debates held for 120 minutes per episode were collected, and image data was extracted at the rate of 30 frames per second as a frame, which resulted in image data of approximately 1.25 million frames. After that, this study built an image-analyzing system through deep learning, which automatically recognizes and classifies candidates appearing in videos, and then analyzes video frames by their facial expressions and direction of gaze. Then, the system counts how often each candidate appeared during all television debates in seconds, and analyzes the proportion of facial expressions of the candidates during the entire television debates. The results showed that Sang-Jung Shim appeared the most over three debates, followed by Chul-soo Ahn in two debates and Jae-in Moon in one. The least appeared candidate was Jun-pyo Hong. As for the facial expression, Moon showed the most satisfactory facial expressions, and Seung-min Yoo expressed his emotion the least. Hong showed the irritated expression the most, indicating that he had difficulty managing his facial expression. Additionally, this study conducted a multi-level analysis combining the image data with a panel survey, which measured respondents preference of candidates before and after the presidential campaign, and the number of times they watched the debates. The multi-level analysis confirmed that the preferences of the candidates changed depending on the exposure to the facial expressions made by the candidates in the actual televison debates. As for the satisfactory expression and the expressionless face, the candidates were evaluated more positively as the expression exposure increased. In the case of the angry expression, the degree of candidate favorability decreased after the exposure. These results suggest that the viewers’ evaluations of the candidates changed substantially according to the candidates facial expressions in the debate. In an era where communication scholars are expanding their research areas by converging with new disciplines such as media engineering and data science, this study suggests a new research direction. We hope that this study lays the groundwork for the research on media analysis using algorithms and deep learning.

      • EXPLORING THE EFFECT OF INTERACTIVITY ON CONSUMER RESPONSES IN VIRTUAL REALITY: THE ROLE OF MENTAL IMAGERY

        This study examined the effects of user interactivity with VR in a digital retail setting on mental imagery and sensory brand app experience and its consequential impacts on perceived enjoyment, perceived usefulness, attitude toward using VR, and behavioral intent. Mental imagery is understood in relation to quantity, vividness, and valence. The user involvement with the device is employed as a moderator to fully understand the impact of VR in connection with consumer engagement. An IKEA VR application was utilized for this study. A convenient sample of college students was recruited from a large research university in the US. The findings of the study show that user interactivity impacts mental imagery, and it subsequently influences sensory brand app experience, perceived enjoyment, perceived usefulness, attitude toward using VR, and behavioral intent. Overall, this study provides meaningful and practical information to academicians and practitioners.

        UVB-dependent inhibition of lipin-1 protects against proinflammatory responses in human keratinocytes

        Lipin-1 is an Mg2+-dependent phosphatidate phosphatase (PAP1) that catalyzes a critical step in the synthesis of glycerophospholipids and is also a cotranscriptional regulator. The role of lipin-1 in the regulation of inflammatory responses has been extensively studied in various cell types but not in skin cells. In the present study, the function of lipin-1 in UVB-induced proinflammatory responses was assessed in normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEKs). UVB radiation downregulated lipin-1 expression. Lipin-1 inhibition was mediated by UVB-dependent sterol-response element binding protein-1 (SREBP-1) inhibition. The UVB-dependent inhibition of lipin-1 and SREBP-1 was mediated by AMPK activation. UVB-induced activation of JNK was dependent on AMPK activation and mediated lipin-1 inhibition. Prevention of UVB-mediated lipin-1 repression by introducing a lipin-1 expression vector stimulated IL-6 and IL-8 production, suggesting that lipin-1 inhibition attenuates UVB-induced IL-6 and IL-8 production. The downregulation of lipin-1 ameliorated UVB-induced NF-ĸB phosphorylation, which might be attributed to the suppression of UVB-induced accumulation of free fatty acids (FFAs). Pharmacological inhibition of PAP1 with propranolol suppressed UVB-induced production of IL-6 and IL-8 in NHEKs and reconstituted human skin models. Taken together, lipin-1 is downregulated by exposure to UVB radiation, which confers protection against UVB-induced proinflammatory responses; therefore, the inhibition of lipin-1 is a potential strategy for photoaging.
