Although the current glucocorticoids (GCs) treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is effective to a certain extent, the difference in therapeutic effect between patients is still a widespread problem. Some patients can have repeated attacks that greatly diminish their quality of life. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between HSP90AA2 polymorphisms and disease susceptibility, GCs efficacy and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Chinese SLE patients. A case–control study was performed in 470 SLE patients and 470 normal controls. Then, 444 patients in the case group were followed up for 12 weeks to observe efficacy of GCs and improvement of HRQoL. Two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of HSP90AA2 were selected for genotyping: rs1826330 and rs6484340. HRQoL was assessed using the SF-36 questionnaire. The minor T allele of rs1826330 and the TT haplotype formed by rs1826330 and rs6484340 showed associations with decreased SLE risk (T allele: PBH = 0.022; TT haplotype: PBH = 0.033). A significant association between rs6484340 and improvement of HRQoL was revealed in the follow-up study. Five subscales of SF-36 were appeared to be influenced by rs6484340: total score of SF-36 (additive model: PBH = 0.026), physical function (additive model: PBH = 0.026), rolephysical (recessive model: PBH = 0.041), mental health (dominant model: PBH = 0.047), and physical component summary (additive model: PBH = 0.026). No statistical significance was found between HSP90AA2 gene polymorphisms and GCs efficacy. These results revealed a genetic association between HSP90AA2 and SLE. Remarkably, HSP90AA2 has an impact on the improvement of HRQoL in Chinese population with SLE.

Three new transition metal complexes based on Ozagrel $[Cu(Ozagrel)]_n$ (1), $[Zn(Ozagrel)(Cl)]_n$ (2), ${[Mn_2-(Ozagrel)(1,4-ndc)_2]{\cdot}(H_2O)}_n$ (3), (Ozagrel = 3-(4-((1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)phenyl)acrylic acid; 1,4-ndc = 1,4-Naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyse, IR, TG, PXRD, electrochemical analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray structure analysis reveals that 1 and 3 are 3D coordination polymers, while complex 2 is a two-dimensional network polymer, the 2D layers are further packed into 3D supramolecular architectures that are connected through hydrogen bonds. The electrochemistry of 1-3 was studied by cyclic voltammetry in methanol and water using a glassy carbon working electrode. Also, thermal decomposition process and powder X-ray diffraction of complexes were investigated.

In this article, we develop a non-randomized multi-category response model for a single sensitive survey question with multiple outcomes. Unlike existing randomized response models, our proposed model does not require any randomizing device and the respondents are merely asked to answer a non-sensitive question. It thus reduces cost, ensures reproducibility of respondents' answer (i.e., the same respondent gives the same answer if the survey is re-conducted under the non-randomized multi-category model), enhances respondents' trust on the privacy policy, and motivates respondents' cooperation. We show maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of cell probabilities can be obtained in closed- form. Bootstrap standard errors and confidence intervals (CIs) of the cell probabilities or their functions are then given. Bayesian estimation via the data augmentation algorithm is developed when prior information on the parameters of interest is available. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the MLEs and CI estimates. A real data set from a questionnaire on sexual activities in Korean adolescents is used to illustrate the proposed design and analysis methods.

This paper proposes a physical-based model to predict the temperature in the micro-grinding of maraging steel 3J33b with the consideration of material microstructure and process parameters. In micro-grinding, the effects of crystallography on the grinding machinability become significant, since the depth of cut is of the same order as the grain size. In this research, the Taylor factor model for multi-phase materials is proposed to quantify the crystallographic orientation (CO) with respect to the cutting direction by examining the number and type of activated slip systems. Then, the flow stress model is developed, in which both the athermal stress resulted from the COs and the strain induced by the phase transformation are taken into account. On the basis of the flow stress model, the grinding forces are predicted followed by the calculation of the grinding heat. In the investigation, the triangular heat flux distribution and the reported energy partition model are applied in the calculation of workpiece temperature. Furthermore, the temperature model is validated by conducting an orthogonal-designed experiment, with the predictions of the maximum temperature in good agreement with the experimental data. Moreover, the predictive data is compared with the predictions resulted from the two other previously reported models. The results indicate that the proposed temperature model with considering the effect of CO and the phase transformation improved the prediction accuracy of the micro-grinding temperature.

Disseminated candidiasis (DC) arising from nosocomial fungal infection is a life-threatening complication in critically ill, nonneutropenic patients. The overall nosocomial fungal infection rate in United States hospitals doubled from 1980-1990. Until recently, amphotericin B was the only agent available for the treatment of life-threatening candidal infections, but its use is plagued by toxicities including nephrotoxicity and infusion-related reactions such as rigors and hypotension. The availability of fluconazole, which is regarded more much less toxic than amphotericin B, prompted a surge in research to determine if it is as efficacious in the management of candidemia and hematogenously disseminated candidiasis. Complicating the interpretation of studies is the broad range of infection severity, from candidemia that may be transient and self-limiting to life-threatening hematogenously disseminated candidiasis. This study has used the models of Artificial neural network (ANN) and Support Vector regression (SVR) to accurately assess the clinical trials comparing fluconazole and amphotericin B demonstrate the efficacy of fluconazole for catheter-associated candidemia in critically ill patients when the likely pathogen is Candida albicans. As a result, Amphotericin B should remain the first-line agent for the management of candidemia and hematogenously disseminated candidiasis in all other patients. Also, SVR could accurately assess the efficacy of fluconazole for catheter-associated candidemia in critically ill patients.
