Lee, Soon-Tae,Chu, Kon,Jung, Keun-Hwa,Im, Woo-Seok,Park, Jeong-Eun,Lim, Hun-Chang,Won, Chong-Hyun,Shin, Seung-Hyun,Lee, Sang Kun,Kim, Manho,Roh, Jae-Kyu Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2009 Annals of Neurology Vol.66 No.5
<B>Objective</B><P>Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) are readily accessible and secrete multiple growth factors. Here, we show that ASC transplantation rescues the striatal pathology of Huntington disease (HD) models.</P><B>Methods</B><P>ASCs were isolated from human subcutaneous adipose tissue. In a quinolinic acid (QA)-induced rat model of striatal degeneration, human ASCs (1 million cells) were transplanted into the ipsilateral striatal border immediately after the QA injection. In 60-day-old R6/2 mice transgenic for HD, ASCs (0.5 million cells) were transplanted into each bilateral striata. In in vitro experiments, we treated mutant huntingtin gene-transfected cerebral neurons with ASC-conditioned media.</P><B>Results</B><P>In the QA model, human ASCs reduced apomorphine-induced rotation behavior, lesion volume, and striatal apoptosis. In R6/2 transgenic mice, transplantation of ASCs improved Rota-Rod performance and limb clasping, increased survival, attenuated the loss of striatal neurons, and reduced the huntingtin aggregates. ASC-transplanted R6/2 mice expressed elevated levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) and reactive oxygen defense enzymes and showed activation of the Akt/cAMP-response element-binding proteins. ASC-conditioned media decreased the level of N-terminal fragments of mutant huntingtin and associated apoptosis, and increased PGC-1α expression.</P><B>Interpretation</B><P>Collectively, ASC transplantation slowed striatal degeneration and behavioral deterioration of HD models, possibly via secreted factors. Introduction: Anti-Sm is one of items of the 1987 American College of Rheumatology classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, its role in the disease course or its significant clinical relevance in lupus nephritis still remains uncertain. We investigated whether anti-Sm is associated with the outcome of lupus nephritis in patients with biopsy-proven lupus nephritis during the follow-up period. Materials and Methods: One hundred-forty nine patients with lupus nephritis who had undergone kidney biopsy were screened, and 90 patients were enrolled and analyzed from January 2005 to December 2014. In addition to anti-Sm, SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI), laboratory results, lupus nephritis classes was assessed. The association between anti-Sm and the patients’renal function, proteinuria and use of immunosuppressive agent was assessed. Immunosuppressive agent was defined as cyclophos-phamide, azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, tacrolimus, cyclosporine. Their usages were counted when patients had received them for at least 3 months. Only patients who had been followed up for over 6 months after kidney biopsy was included. Results: The median age at kidney biopsy performance was 32.0 years and median follow up duration after biopsy was 33.0 months (range 6.0 109.8). Anti-Sm was found in 44 of 90 patients (48.8%), and kidney biopsy revealed that class IV (46.6%, 42 of 90) was the most frequently observed. Although anti-Sm was not associated with deterioration of renal function and proteinuria, it (p=0.022) was significantly associated with the use of immunosuppressive agent along with age (p=0.027) and high SLEDAI (p=0.007). Multivariate analysis still revealed the use of immunosuppressive agent was associated with anti-Sm (OR 2.870, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.033, 7.976, p=0.043), age (OR 0.958, 95% CI, 0.923-0.994, p=0.023) and SLEDAI (OR 1.185, 95% CI, 1.023, 1.373, p=0.024). Conclusions: In biopsy-proven lupus nephritis patients, presence of anti-Sm was independently associated with the use of immunosuppressive agent. Our findings indicated that anti-Sm may be one of the useful markers for the outcome of lupus nephritis.

Nitrogen is a key component in the growth of crop plant. To increase the yield of crops, an enormous amount of nitrogen fertilizer is currently being used, which increases the total production cost and leads to environmental pollution by the residual nitrogen sources. For these reasons, researchers have tried to improve the crop’s nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) as a solution for reducing the amount of nitrogen fertilizer used. MicroRNAs are a class of small non-coding RNAs regulating the expression of target genes. Recent studies suggested that the expression pool of microRNAs changes in response to a variety of nutrient deficiencies and that such changes play important roles in adapting to or resisting the consequential nutritional stresses. Here, we aim to identify and characterize rice microRNAs whose expression changes upon nitrogen starvation and re-supplementation. By applying RNA-Seq, we observed that the expression of a set of genes involved in nitrogen assimilation was altered in response to nitrogen deprivation. We also found that a considerable number of microRNAs exhibited dynamic expression changes in a nitrogen supply state-dependent manner and that the expression of genes targeted by those differentially regulated microRNAs was altered reciprocally. Our study suggests that microRNAs may have roles in regulating the response of rice to nitrogen supply state and subsequently modulating NUE.

In this paper we are going to generalize the concept of cross connection in partially ordered sets. We investigate the relation between Galois connection and cross connection, and the properties of cross connection. 반순서 집합에서의 크로스 접속을 정의하고 여러 가지 성질을 조사하였고 아울러 완비 속에서의 갈로와 접속과 크로스 접속을 θ+, Θ-를 정의하여 관계를 살펴보았다.
Flash Design for Automatic Transfer System of Bearing Hub in Hot Forging Process
Lee, Sang Kon,Byun, Hyun Sang,Kim, Byung Min,Ko, Dae Cheol,Kang, C.G. Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2006 Diffusion and defect data. SSP. [Pt. B], Solid sta Vol.116 No.-
<P>The aim of this study is to design flash geometry of bearing hub to apply the automatic transfer system in hot forging process. The flash geometry is very important in hot forging process because the flash geometry effects on the metal flow, material losses, forging load, die pressure and so on. In this study, the problem of designing the flash geometry is studied with flash thickness and width considering the maximum die pressure to apply an automatic transfer system in hot forging process for bearing hub. The numerical analysis was conducted by means of the commercial S/W DEFORM. On the basis of numerical analysis the flash geometry of hot forging die was redesigned, and experiment was conducted. From the experimental results, it was possible to produce bearing hub with an automatic transfer system without any deterioration of die lifetime.</P>
On fuzzy level ideals of rings
Lee, Hyo Sam,Kwak, Sung Kon 大邱大學校附設 基礎科學硏究所 1998 基礎科學硏究 Vol.15 No.1
In this paper, we introduced here the notion of a fuzzy level ideal. We investigate the condition that a given fuzzy level subset is to be a fuzzy level subring or fuzzy level ideal. Also, we discuss some basic properties of this fuzzy level ideal.
