        Semiautomated spleen volumetry with diffusion‐weighted MR imaging

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>In this article, we determined the relative accuracy of semiautomated spleen volumetry with diffusion‐weighted (DW) MR images compared to standard manual volumetry with DW‐MR or CT images. Semiautomated spleen volumetry using simple thresholding followed by 3D and 2D connected component analysis was performed with DW‐MR images. Manual spleen volumetry was performed on DW‐MR and CT images. In this study, 35 potential live liver donor candidates were included. Semiautomated volumetry results were highly correlated with manual volumetry results using DW‐MR (<I>r</I> = 0.99; <I>P</I> < 0.0001; mean percentage absolute difference, 1.43 ± 0.94) and CT (<I>r</I> = 0.99; <I>P</I> < 0.0001; 1.76 ± 1.07). Mean total processing time for semiautomated volumetry was significantly shorter compared to that of manual volumetry with DW‐MR (<I>P</I> < 0.0001) and CT (<I>P</I> < 0.0001). In conclusion, semiautomated spleen volumetry with DW‐MR images can be performed rapidly and accurately when compared with standard manual volumetry.       • A Study on Brain Wave Characteristics in Color Stimulus consequent on Personality Type

        This study intended to analyze the brain wave indicator in color stimulus consequent on psychology type through MBTI Psychology & Personality Type Detection(Scanning)which was made on the basis of the psychological theory by Jung who intended to understand a human comprehensively and in-depth. Firstly, MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) was taken to separate extravert type group and introversion type group. In red and green object color space, when it is 10 lx, 100 lx, the brainwave was measured and appearance quantity in prefrontal lobe by RA, RB, and RAB index was analyzed. The study result showed that there was a difference in the brain wave indicator in the color space consequent on personality type. Also, the study results revealed that in case of an extroverted group, the group was relaxed and got stable in the object color space of Red while the introverted group got tense and awakened in all environments. In the object color space of Green, all groups showed the tendency to get tense and awakened. Putting together the results, this study could find that the personality type has an influence on the brain wave indicator depending on color stimulus.

      • 부엌 조명의 조도와 색온도 변화에 따른 후두엽에서의 알파파 출현량 변화

        본 연구에서는 부엌공간에서의 LED조명에서의 색온도와 조도변화에 따른 인체의 생리적인 반응을 알아보고자 하였으며, 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 시각영역을 담당한다고 알려진 후두엽에서의 뇌파 RA출현량(Relative Alpha Power Spectrum)을 분석한 결과, 실험변인 중 색온도 3000K, 4500K에서는 조도60㏓, 300㏓, 600㏓간의 RA출현량의 변화는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았으나 색온도가 가장 높은 6000K에서 조도간의 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다[p<0.05]. 이는 상대적으로 높은 색온도가 인체의 생리적인 반응에 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 이러한 반응이 인체에 유해한지에 대한 연구는 추후 연구가 더 필요하며 인체생리반응을 분석하기 위해서 다른 대뇌피질 영역에서의 측정 및 다양한 뇌파지표에서의 분석 연구가 요구된다.

      • 자가 치유를 위한 외부 자원 모니터 자동 생성 기법

        최근의 소프트웨어들이 다양한 기능을 갖추어가면서 점차 복잡도가 증가하고 있으며, 이에 따라 오류로 부터의 복구도 어려워져 가고 있다. 이러한 변화는 소프트웨어의 자가 치유 연구에 중요한 이슈가 되고 있다. 하지만 자가 치유 방법론에서 중요한 요소 중에 하나인 모니터는 아직까지 개발자가 일일이 작성해야 하는 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 외부 차원으로 인한 오류로 탐지하는 모니터 모듈의 생성을 자동화하는 방법론을 제시하고, 이것을 적용한 소프트웨어 아키텍처를 제안한다. 본 방법론은 1) UML의 배치다이어그램으로부터 소프트웨어와 하드웨어간의 연결을 분석하고, 2) 기술된 제약사항을 이용하여 모니터링 모듈을 자동으로 생성한다. 3) 이후 생성된 모듈을 소프트웨어 사양에 맞게 수정한 후 컴포넌트에 추가한다. 이러한 제안 방법론을 통해 기존에 수동으로 만들어야 했던 외부 자원 모니터를 자동화하는 것이 가능해 진다. 본 논문에서는 평가를 위해 제안 방법론을 비디오 회의 시스템의 클라이언트에 적용하여, 외부 자원의 오류를 올바르게 탐지해내는지 확인한다.

      • LED조명환경에서 Fade in 기능유무에 따른 뇌파 반응 연구

        본 연구는 색온도와 조도제어가 가능한 LED조명환경에서 ‘fade in’ 기능에 따른 뇌파변화를 알아보기 위해 진행하였다. 실험공간은 조명제어가 가능한 3250 ㎜ × 6080 ㎜의 규모로, 우물천장 형태인 천장고의 높은 부분은 2770 ㎜, 낮은 부분은 2600 ㎜이다. 조명환경의 실험변인으로는 색온도 3000 K, 6000 K, 조도 40 ㏓, 100 ㏓, 400 ㏓, 1000 ㏓, 2000 ㏓, 그리고 fade in 기능이 적용/미적용 되었을 때이다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 전전두엽에서 이완, 안정과 관련된 RA의 뇌파지표 출현량을 비교한 결과, ‘fade in’ 기능이 적용된 조명환경이 이완, 안정할 수 있는 환경임을 알 수 있었다.

        본 연구에서는 색온도와 조도가 제어 가능한 조명환경에서 ‘fade-in’ 기능이 적용되었을 때와 적용되지 않은 조명환경에서의 눈부심 발생을 평가해보고자 하였다. 조명환경의 실험변인으로 색온도는 3000 K, 6000 k의 2가지, 조도는 100 ㏓, 200 ㏓, 400 ㏓, 1000 ㏓, 2000 ㏓, 4000 ㏓의 6가지, ‘fade-in’ 기능은 적용되었을 때와 미적용 되었을 때의 2가지로 선정하였다. 연구 결과, ‘fade-in’ 기능이 적용된 조명환경에서는 ‘fade-in’ 기능이 적용되지 않은 조명환경에서 보다 눈부심이 적게 나타났다. 따라서 ‘fade-in’ 기능이 적용된 조명환경은 눈부심이 적게 나타나는 환경임을 알 수 있었다.

        Korean Red Ginseng suppresses bisphenol A-induced expression of cyclooxygenase-2 and cellular migration of A549 human lung cancer cell through inhibition of reactive oxygen species

        Background: Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) is a natural product with antiinflammatory and anticarcinogenic effects. We have previously reported that the endocrine-disrupting compound bisphenol A (BPA)-induced cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) via nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase and promoted the migration of A549. Here, in this study, we assessed the protective effect of KRG on the BPA-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) and expression of COX-2 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in A549 cells. Methods: The effects of KRG on the upregulation of ROS production and COX-2 and MMP-9 expression by BPA were evaluated by fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACs) analysis, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, and western blotting. Antimigration ability by KRG was evaluated by migration assay in A549 cells. Results: KRG significantly suppressed the BPA-induced COX-2, the activity of NF-κB, the production of ROS, and the migration of A549 cells. These effects led to the downregulation of the expression of MMP-9. Conclusions: Overall, our results suggest that KRG exerts an antiinflammatory effect on BPA-treated A549 cells via the suppression of ROS and downregulation of NF-κB activation and COX-2 expression which leads to a decrease in cellular migration and MMP-9 expression. These results provide a new possible therapeutic application of KRG to protect BPA-induced possible inflammatory disorders.

        Relationships between the diabetes awareness and clinical indices/nutrient intakes in Korean adults: Based on the 2012-2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Data

        BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Diabetes is diagnosed after an average of 10-12 years of diabetic development. Strict glycemic control in diabetic patients promotes the normalization of blood glucose and reduces cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and diabetic complications. Therefore, early diagnosis in non-aware individuals is very important. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Clinical indices and nutrient intakes in Korean diabetic adults aged 19-64 years were examined according to the awareness of diabetes, using 2012 and 2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data. The aware group was defined as individuals who were aware of having diabetes from diagnosis by physician before the survey and the non-aware group as individuals who were not aware of having diabetes. RESULTS: The average age was higher in the aware group compared to the non-aware group in both men (P = 0.002) and women (P = 0.004). The prevalences of hypertension and dyslipidemia were not different between the two groups, but the diagnosis rate was significantly lower in the non-aware group. In the non-aware group, total and LDL-cholesterol were significantly higher (P < 0.001), the risk for total cholesterol over 240 mg/dL was 3.4 times (95% CI: 1.58-7.52) higher (P = 0.002) and the risk for LDL-cholesterol over 160 mg/dL was 4.59 times (95% CI: 2.07-10.17) higher (P < 0.001). The calorie intake of the female non-aware group was significantly higher compared to the female aware group (P = 0.033). CONCLUSION: The results suggested that the recommendation of screening test is necessary even for young adults. Studies on the methodology for early diagnosis of diabetes are also needed.

        Motion Artifact Identification and Removal From Wearable Reflectance Photoplethysmography Using Piezoelectric Transducer

        <P>Accurate heart rate estimation from reflectance photoplethysmography (PPG) during intense physical activity is difficult given unpredictable motion artifacts (MAs). Recent research has focused on the removal of MAs in PPG signals by considering acceleration signals as noise references. However, this approach does not always effectively remove MAs, as they can be associated with other noise sources. For instance, finger or hand motion reflects upon the wrist, corrupting the PPG signals, but an accelerometer cannot capture this type of MA. Hence, we propose adding a piezoelectric transducer on the wrist to identify noise originated from finger and hand motion. We first detail the developed wearable device that simultaneously measures PPG, acceleration, and piezoelectric pressure signals from the wrist. Then, the effectiveness of piezoelectric pressure signals for MA removal is verified from PPG signals collected under finger tapping and hand folding/unfolding, and from data of 17 healthy subjects undergoing physical activity. MA removal using both acceleration and piezoelectric pressure signals exhibits a mean absolute error of 1.58 beats per minute (bpm), considerably below the error of 3.75 bpm obtained using only acceleration signals. Therefore, measuring piezoelectric pressure signals on the wrist can improve heart rate estimation by providing more information of MAs corrupting PPG signals.</P>
