        A Two-Dimensional Terrace-Like N-heterocyclic-Pb(II) Coordination Compound: Structure and Photoluminescence Property

        The first example of lead compound from $Pb(NO_3)_2$ and $H_3L$ N-heterocyclic ligand $(H_3L\;=\;(HO_2C)_2(C_3N_2)(C_3H_7)CH_2(C_6H_4)(C_6H_3)CO_2H)$, $[Pb_4(L')_4]{\cdot}5H_2O$ 1 (L' = OOC$(C_3H_7)(C_3N_2)CH_2(C_6H_4)(C_6H_3)COO)$, has been obtained under hydrothermal condition by decarboxylation, and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TGDTA, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 possesses a rare two-dimensional upper-lower offset terrace-like layer structure. In 1, crystallographic distinct Pb(II) ion adopts five-coordination geometry, and two lattice water molecules occupy the voids between 2-D layers. Results of solid state fluorescence measurement indicate that the emission band 458 nm may be assigned to $\pi^*-n$ and $\pi^*-\pi$ electronic transitions within the aromatic systems of the ligand L', however, the emission bands centred at 555 nm, 600 nm and 719 nm may be derived from phosphorescent emission ($\lambda_{excitation}$ = 390 nm).

        A newly characterized exopolysaccharide from Sanghuangporus sanghuang

        Sanghuangporus sanghuang is a well-known pharmacodynamic and economically important edible fungus associated with mulberry (Morus spp.). A distinctly new exopolysaccharide (EPS), designated SHP-2 was obtained from S. sanghuang P0988 broth, and its structure and anti-aging prosperity were characterized. SHP-2 was found to be composed of a backbone of 4)-β-Manp-(1 4)-α-Araf-(1 3,4)-α-Glcp(1 3,4)-α-Glcp-(1 3,4)-α-Glcp-(1 3,4)-α-Glcp-(1 3,4)-α- Glcp-(1 6)-α-Galp-(1 4)-β-Manp-(1 and five branches, including four α-D-Glcp-(1 and one α-D-Manp-(1 SHP-2 was shown to increase antioxidant enzyme activities including catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, as well as trolox equivalent antioxidant (TEAC) capacity in serum of mice pre-treated with D-Gal, while reducing lipofuscin levels. SHP-2 exerted a favorable influence on immune organ coefficients and ameliorated the histopathological hepatic lesions and apoptosis in hepatocytes of Dgalactose- aged mice almost in a dose-dependent manner. Using the same analytical methods, on comparison with previously studied EPS compounds (i.e. SHP-1), SHP-2 was found to have more complex structure, larger molecule weight, and different anti-aging properties. The results presented here suggest that not only does EPS bioactivity vary with respect to molecular structures and molecule weight, but that multiple structures with different activity can be expressed by a single fungal strain. These results may help understanding the antiaging prosperity of these polysaccharides for use in health foods or dietary supplements.

        MGGC2.0: A preprocessing code for the multi-group cross section of the fast reactor with ultrafine group library

        How to generate the precise broad group cross section is important for the fast reactor design. In this study, a fast reactor multi-group cross-section generation code MGGC2.0 are developed in-house for processing ultrafine group MATXS format library. Validation and verification are performed for MGGC2.0 code by applying the benchmarks of ICSBEP handbook, and the results of MGGC2.0 agree well with that of MCNP. The consistent PN method with critical buckling search is in good agreement that condensed with TWODANT flux and flux moment for the inner core and outer core region. For the radial blanket and reflector, two region approximation method has been applied in MGGC2.0 by using collision Probability Method neutron flux solver. The RBEC-M benchmark was used to verify the power distribution calculation, and the relative error of power distribution comparison with the reference are less than 0.8% in the fuel region and the maximum relative error is 5.58% in the reflector region.         Neurotrophic Effects of Schwann Cell Secretions from Wallerian Degenerating Facial Nerves on Neonatal Rats Facial Motoneurons in vitro

        Regeneration and functional recovery of facial nerves after injury are still far from satisfaction. Studies on whether Schwann cells of injured facial nerves could secrete neurotrophic factors to promote nerve regeneration are rare, and that is the pbjective of this study. Schwann cells from Wallerian degenerating segments of rats facial nerves were isolated and cultured in conditioned culture medium, collected, concentrated and fractionated by ultra-filtration. The neurotrophic bioactivity of the soluble secretions from cultured Schwann cells were examined on an established neuron culture model. Dil fluorescence labeling facial motoneurons from neonatal rats, MTT assay, and image analysis for survival of facial motoneurons were used. The results show that facial motoneuron survival activity in Schwann cell culture medium containing a molecular weight larger than 30 kDa component, was significantly higher than in medium with and without serum (p<0.05 and p<0.01 respectively). The effect could be extinguished by either boiling or trypsinizing. At the 2nd, 4th and 7th days after conditioned culture, mean perikaryon area and neurite length of facial motoneurons in a medium containing molecular weight larger than 30kDa component, were significantly larger than in serum containing medium. The results show that Schwann cells from Wallerian degenerating facial nerves in serum-free and neurite re-growth of facial motoneurons in vitro. The results also suggest that the neurotrophic effect might be derived from protein(s) or peptide(s) with molecular weight larger than 30 kDa component of the soluble secretions. It may be potent for functional repair of facial verve and other neural disorders.

        Recovery of Native Protein from Potato Root Water by Expanded Bed Adsorption with Amberlite XAD7HP

        Potato root water (PRW) contains ~1.5%protein. In this study, expanded bed adsorption (EBA)chromatography with Amberlite XAD7HP resin adsorbent was used to isolate native protein from crude PRW. The optimal pH and ionic strength for potato protein binding onto Amberlite XAD7HP were 5.0 and 20 mmol/L. The EBA-refined proteins were dried by vacuum freeze drying and spray drying at varying outlet temperatures. Results indicated that low temperature spray drying was the most cost effective method with respect to retaining protease inhibitor activities. The dried protein concentrates appeared bright yellow or dark reddish brown, with a total glycoalkaloid content of ~170 μg/g. The protease inhibitor activity was ~400 mg/g and 11 ~ 12 mg/g for trypsin inhibition and chymotrypsin inhibition, respectively. The results presented here suggest that EBA using Amberlite XAD7HP as the adsorbent is a feasible strategy for the direct adsorption of native protein from crude PRW.

      • SHE-PWM Control for A Four-level Hybrid-Clamped Inverter

        In this paper, a control strategy for a four-level hybrid-clamped inverter using SHE-PWM is introduced. An algebraic method combining Groebner bases and symmetric polynomials is implemented to obtain the seven switching angles of SHE-PWM. Compared with the widely-used numerical and intelligent methods, it does not need to choose initial values and is able to obtain all the solutions. Moreover, the calculation efficiency is much higher than the existing algebraic methods. The voltage balancing of the DC-link capacitors and flying capacitors can be achieved by selecting proper redundant switching states. Simulation results are presented to confirm the harmonic elimination effect and the validity of this voltage control strategy.

      • Annomolin and Annocherimolin, New Cytotoxic Annonaceous Acetogenins from Annona cherimolia Seeds

        Two new cytotoxic anonaceous acetogenis, annomolin (1) and annocherimolin (2), were iaoated from an ethanolic extract of the seeds of Annona cherimolia. Annomolin has a mono-THF ring with one flanking bydroxyl and possesses a 1,2-diol at C-7/8 of the aliphatic chain. Annocberimolin has a mono-THF ring with two flanking hydroxyls and possesses a double bond at C-21/22. Their structures were elucidated by spectral data and chemical derivatization. Compound 1 showed cytotoxic selectivity for the human prostate tumor cell line (PC-3), with a potency of over 10 000 times that of adriaraycin. Compound 2 showed cytotoxic potencies about 10 000 times those of adriamycin in the breast (MCF-7) and colon (HT-29) cancer cell lines.

        Corn Peptides Protect Against Thioacetamide-Induced Hepatic Fibrosis in Rats

        Certain bioactive peptides are reported to be able to alleviate hepatic fibrosis. Our previous work has confirmed the hepatoprotective effect of corn peptides (CPs) that are prepared from a high protein by-product, corn gluten meal, on acute liver injury in an animal model. However, the antifibrotic activity of CPs remained to be elucidated. In this study, the hepatoprotective effect of CPs on thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver fibrosis was tested. Results showed that CPs (100 mg/kg body weight) significantly decreased the levels of alanine transaminase/aspartate transaminase, laminin, type IV collagen, and type III collagen in serum and increased the serum albumin levels and total antioxidant capacity. Additionally, with CP treatment (100 mg/kg body weight), a significant decrease was observed in the levels of malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, hydroxyproline, transforming growth factor b1, and lactate dehydrogenase activity as well as the liver index, while the activity of superoxidedismutase was significantly increased in livers. The histological and morphological analysis showed that the hepatocyte structure in CP-treated rats was superior to that of TAA-injured rats, and inflammation and fibrosis were also ameliorated. Therefore, CPs can be used as an option for prevention and adjuvant therapy of liver fibrosis.
