        Cascaded Cache Based on Recently Used Order for Latency Optimization for IoT

        The load-to-use latency of the L1 cache is one of the main factors to determine the performance of low power processors. As the clock frequency competitions become severe even in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the access cycle to the L1 cache was increased to meet the timing constraints. Because previous studies assumed that every access to the data cache has the same latency, the latencies tend to be longer for higher performance. We propose a latency optimization method that uses a cascaded cache based on a recently used order that has several small banks with various latencies instead of one whole data cache with constant latency. In our cache, each bank contains the cache block according to its recently used order. The experiments show that the performance of our proposal is improved by 23.0%, with a 1.3% reduction in the dynamic energy consumption on average.

        Kaempferol sensitizes cell proliferation inhibition in oxaliplatin-resistant colon cancer cells

        Resolution to chemoresistance is a major challengein patients with advanced-stage malignancies. Thus,identifi cation of action points and elucidation of molecularmechanisms for chemoresist human cancer are necessary toovercome this challenge. In this study, we provide importantevidence that kaempferol targeting RSKs might be a strategyto reduce the oxaliplatin-resistant colon cancer cells. Wefound that MAPK and PI3K-AKT signaling were increasedin oxaliplatin (Ox)-resistant HCT116 (HCT116-Ox R ) cellscompared to Ox-sensitive HCT116 (HCT116-Ox S ) cells. Comparison of cell sensitivities using SP600125 (JNKinhibitor), SB206580 (p38 kinase inhibitor), or MK-2206(AKT inhibitor) revealed that cell proliferation inhibitionwas strongly observed in HT29 cells compared to that inHCT116 cells in both Ox S and Ox R cells. Interestingly,SP600125, SB206580, and MK-2206 treatment showedhigher cell proliferation inhibition in Ox S cells than that in Ox R cells in both HCT116 and HT29 cells, except followingtreatments with 10 μM of SP600125, and 30 μMof SB206580. In comparison to magnolin and aschantin,kaempferol showed the strongest inhibitory eff ect on cellproliferation in both HCT116 and HT29 cells. Importantly,HCT116- and HT29-Ox R cells showed higher sensitivitiesto cell proliferation inhibition than those of HCT116- andHT29-Ox S cells, resulting in the accumulation of cells atthe G 2 /M-phases of the cell cycle. Finally, we showed thatAP-1 transactivation activity was markedly decreased bykaempferol in HCT116- and HT29-Ox R cells compared tothe activity levels in HCT116- and HT29-Ox S cells. Takentogether, the results demonstrate that kaempferol-mediatedAP-1 inhibition might be an important signaling mechanismto resolve the chemoresistance of Ox-resistant colon cancercells.

      • Disorder-mediated enhancement of fiber numerical aperture.

        <P>The numerical aperture (NA) of a multimode optical fiber sets the limit of the information transport capacity along the spatial degree of freedom. In this Letter, we report that the application of a highly disordered medium can overcome the capacity limit set by the fiber NA. Specifically, we coated the input surface of a multimode fiber with a disordered medium made of ZnO nanoparticles and transported a wide-field image through the fiber with a spatial resolution beyond the diffraction limit given by the fiber NA. This was made possible because multiple scatterings induced by the disordered medium physically increased the NA of the entire system. Our study will lead to enhancing the spatial resolution of fiber-based endoscopic imaging and also improving the information transport capacity in optical communications.</P>

      • LRRK2 G2019S Induces Anxiety/Depression-like Behavior before the Onset of Motor Dysfunction with 5-HT<sub>1A</sub> Receptor Upregulation in Mice

        <P>Mutations in the leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) gene are the most common genetic cause of Parkinson's disease (PD). The neuropathology of LRRK2 mutation-related PD, including increased dopaminergic neurodegeneration and Lewy bodies, is indistinguishable from that of idiopathic PD. The subtle nonmotor phenotypes of LRRK2 mutation-related PD have not been fully evaluated. In the present study, we examined anxiety/depression-like behaviors and accompanying neurochemical changes in differently aged transgenic (Tg) mice expressing human mutant LRRK2 G2019S. Through multiple behavioral tests, including light-dark test, elevated plus maze, sucrose preference test, forced swimming test, and tail-suspension test, we found that anxiety/depression-like behavior appeared in middle-aged (43-52 weeks) Tg mice before the onset of PD-like motor dysfunction. These behavioral tests were performed using both male and female mice, and there were no sex-related differences in behavioral changes in the middle-aged Tg mice. Along with behavioral changes, serotonin levels also significantly declined in the hippocampus of Tg mice. Additionally, increases in the expression of the 5-HT1A receptor (5-HT1AR) grew more significant with aging and were detected in the hippocampus, amygdala, and dorsal raphe nucleus. In vitro study using the serotonergic RN46A and hippocampal HT22 cells showed that 5-HT1AR upregulation was related to enhanced expression of LRRK2 G2019S and was attenuated by the LRRK2 inhibitor LRRK2-IN-1. Wild-type LRRK2 had no significant effect on 5-HT1AR transcription. The present study provides the first in vivo and in vitro evidence demonstrating abnormal regulation of 5-HT1AR along with the manifestation of anxiety/depression-like, nonmotor symptom in PD related to LRRK2.</P>

        교양 교육으로서의 한국어교육

        이 연구는 교양 과정으로서의 한국어교육의 현황과 실제를 고찰함으로써 교양 한국어의 위상과 나아갈 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해서 교양 교육의 개념에 대해서 조사하였다. 교양 교육의 목적은 인간을 자율적이고 창의적이 비판적인 인재로 양성하여야 한다는 점에서 대학 교양 교육 과정은 공통점을 갖는다. 대학에서의 교양 교육의 목적으로 교양 한국어교육 과정의 교과목을 보았을 때, 개설된 한국어 교과목이 교양 교육의 목적을 이루는 데 기여하기 어렵다고 보았다. 대학의 교양 교육 과정의 교과목 명칭을 고찰해 보았다. 일반 의사소통 목적의 한국어교육 과정이 여전히 상당한 분량을 차지하고 있다는 점을 발견하였다. 교양 교육의 관점에서 교양으로서의 한국어교육 과정 내용이 교양인으로서의 인재 배양에 초점을 두고 있는지를 의심하게 한다. 이와 같은 문제의식으로 인해 여러 대학에서 학문 목적 한국어교육을 교양 교육 과정으로 받아들이고 있다. 이 연구에서는 교양 교육 과정에서 한국어교육을 학문 목적의 성격으로 규정하고 이를 실제로 구현한 한국어 교양 교육 과정에 주목하였다. 대학의 교양 교육의 목적을 한국어교육 속에서 녹여낸 교양으로서의 한국어교육 과정의 교과목을 고찰하고 한국어교육의 나아가는 방향을 기술하였다. The purpose of this study is to present the status and direction of liberal arts Korean language by examining the current status and reality of Korean language education as a liberal arts course. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the concept of liberal arts education was investigated. The purpose of liberal arts education is that humans must be nurtured as autonomous, creative and critical talents. When looking at the subjects of the liberal arts Korean language curriculum for the purpose of liberal arts education at universities, it was considered that the established Korean language subjects were difficult to contribute to achieving the purpose of liberal arts education. The subject names of the university s liberal arts curriculum were considered. It was found that the Korean language curriculum for general communication purposes still occupied a considerable amount. From the perspective of liberal arts education, it is questioned whether the content of the Korean language curriculum as liberal arts focuses on cultivating human resources as liberal arts people. However, some schools accept the Korean language curriculum for academic purposes as a liberal arts curriculum based on this problem consciousness. In the future, it is expected that Korean language education as a liberal arts education can contribute to cultivating human resources as liberal arts people when the purpose is clarified.

      • 아동을 위한 체온 기반 출입 및 원생 관리 서비스 설계 및 구현

        코로나 19 의 빠른 확산과 장기화로 인해 비대면을 중심으로 사회가 빠르게 변화하고 있다. 정부는 이에 따른 방안으로 사회적 거리 두기 행동 지침을 공고하고 세부 지침으로 사회적 거리 두기 세부 단계 신설, 마스크 착용 의무화를 시행하고 있다. 공공기관, 사업장 또한 열화상 카메라를 사용한 체온 측정 및 체온기록을 통해 확산을 방지하고자 노력하고 있다. 그러나 코로나 19 의 장기화로 다중 밀집 지역에서 비감염자와 감염자를 구분할 수 있는 기술이 필요성이 대두되었다. 그중 아동이 성인보다 표면적으로 감염 여부를 파악하기 어렵고, 감염 시 더 많은 바이러스를 배출한다는 측면에서 큰 위험요소로 작용한다고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 코로나 19 의 확산을 방지하기 위해서는 아동의 다중 밀집 지역을 집중적으로 관리해야 할 필요성이 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 아동 다중 밀집지역에서 체온 기반 출입 시스템의 필요성을 인지하고 아동의 일반적인 이동 동선을 분석할 것이며, 위 내용을 기반으로 집중 관리할 수 있는 기능을 조사, 분석한 후 사용성 평가를 실행하여 이를 검증하고자 한다. 또한, 사용성 평가 결과를 바탕으로 도출해 낸 문제점을 기반으로 향후 아동을 위한 효과적인 출입 시스템이 어떻게 개선되어야 할 것인가에 대한 시스템의 방향을 UX 디자인 측면에서 제시하고자 한다.
