Objective : While balanced crystalloid (BC) could be a relevant fluid regimen with buffer system compared with normal saline (NS), there have been no studies on the optimal fluid for surgery of an unruptured intracranial aneurysm (UIA). This study aimed to compare the effects of fluid regimens between NS and BC on the metabolic and clinical outcomes of patients who underwent surgery for UIA. Methods : This study was designed as a propensity score matched retrospective comparative study and included adult patients who underwent UIA clipping. Patient groups were categorized as NS and BC groups based on the types of pre-operative fluid and the amount of fluid administered during surgery. The primary outcomes were defined as electrolyte imbalance and acidosis immediately after surgery. The secondary outcomes were the length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) and duration from the end of the operation to extubation. Results : A total of 586 patients were enrolled in this study, with each of 293 patients assigned to the NS and BC groups, respectively. Immediately after surgery, serum chloride levels were significantly higher in the NS group. Compared to the NS group, the BC group had lower incidence rates of acidemia (6.5% vs. 11.6%, p=0.043) and metabolic acidosis (0.7% vs. 4.4%, p=0.007). As compared to NS group, BC group had significantly shorter duration from the end of the operation to extubation (250±824 vs. 122±372 minutes, p=0.016) and length of stay in ICU (1.37±1.11 vs. 1.12±0.61 days, p=0.001). Throughout multivariable analysis, use of BC was found to be significant factor for favorable post-operative results. Conclusion : This study showed that the patients who received BC during UIA clipping had lower incidence of metabolic acidosis, earlier extubation and shorter ICU stay compared to those who received NS. Therefore, using BC as a peri-operative fluid can be recommended for patients who undergo surgery for UIA.

In this paper, the axial compressive properties of cold-formed steel lipped channel stub columns strengthened by rebars or steel strips are experimentally studied. The experiment included two sections. A kind of columns with local buckling is reinforced longitudinally by steel strips at the web. The other is the columns with distorted buckling, which is reinforced longitudinally by steel bars at the curling edge. The failure mode, deformation characteristics, ultimate bearing capacity and load displacement curve of the specimen are obtained through the experiment. On the basis of the experiment, the calculation results of theoretical axial bearing capacity of cold-formed steel lipped channel stub columns in Chinese, North American and Australian code are compared and analyzed. Research indicates: First, the cold-formed steel lipped channel stub columns strengthened by steel bars or steel strips can effectively improve the compressive bearing capacity of the specimen. Secondly, when the initial stress ratio of specimen is less than 0.3, the reinforcement effect is ideal. Thirdly, the three standards don’t stipulate the calculation of theoretical bearing capacity of the specimen strengthened after loading, so there is a large deviation between the theoretical calculation value and the test value.

Background/Aims: Evidence suggests that Shen-Kang (SK), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, protects against various types of renal injury. In this study, we evaluated whether SK treatment confers renoprotection in a rat model of chronic tacrolimus (TAC) nephropathy. Methods: Rats were treated daily with TAC (1.5 mg/kg, subcutaneously) and SK (450 mg/kg, intravenously) for 4 weeks. The effects of SK on TAC-induced renal injury were assessed by measuring renal function, urine albumin excretion, histopathology, inflammatory cell infiltration, expression of profibrotic (transforming growth factor β1 [TGF-β1] and TGF-β inducible gene-h3 [βig-h3]) and proinflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, and apoptotic cell death. Results: Administration of SK preserved glomerular integrity (fractional mesangial area and Wilms tumor 1-positive glomeruli), attenuated tubulointerstitial fibrosis, and reduced the number of ectodermal dysplasia 1-positive cells, and this was paralleled by improved urine albumin excretion and renal dysfunction. At the molecular level, SK treatment suppressed expression of TGF-β1/Smad2/3, βig-h3, and proinflammatory cytokines. Oxidative stress and apoptotic cell death were significantly decreased with SK treatment, and apoptosis-related genes were regulated toward cell survival (active caspase-3 and the B-cell lymphoma-2/ Bcl2-associated X [Bcl-2/Bax] ratio). Conclusions: SK protects against TAC-induced renal injury.

The existing asynchronous motor parameter identification methods only identify the parameters of the asynchronous motor itself, ignoring the identification of the parameters of the load carried by the asynchronous motor. This paper proposes an integrated parameter identification method of the asynchronous motor that uses the improved PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization, PSO) and considers the load adaptive characteristics. Compared with the traditional method, this method firstly combines the PSO method with Space Disturbance (SD) to form an improved PSO method, which prevents the PSO from falling into a local optimal state and enhances the global optimization ability of the PSO method. Secondly, according to the characteristics of different loads, a load identification strategy is constructed. This strategy can judge the type of load carried by the asynchronous motor, which reduces the optimization exploration space of the PSO algorithm and accelerates the optimization speed of the PSO algorithm. Finally, according to the identified load types, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm combined with the spatial disturbance is used to realize the integrated identification of the asynchronous motor and the load parameters. The validity of the algorithm is verified by an example, and the factors affecting the identification accuracy are analyzed.

Catalytic oxidative desulfurization (Cat-ODS) of benzothiophene (BT) in n-octane has been investigated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) over catalysts of activated carbon (AC) supported iron oxide under mild conditions. The catalyst was characterized by N2 adsorption, XRD, SEM/EDS, TPR and XPS. Under the best operating condition for the catalytic oxidative desulfurization--temperature 60 oC, atmospheric pressure, 0.15 g Fe/AC, 18 molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide to sulfur, using acetonitrile as extraction solvent for double extraction--the sulfur content in model diesel fuel (MDF) was reduced from 700 ppmw to 30 ppmw with 95.66% of total sulfur was removed.
