We conducted a cross‐sectional telephone survey for women who had obtained a National Cancer Screening Programme mammographic screening at general hospitals between May and October 2008. The present study included 2005 women in their forties. We performed multivariate linear regression using dependent variable as general satisfaction and independent variables as subscales of satisfaction, such as pre‐screening information transfer, staff interpersonal skills, physical surroundings and results reporting. Participants were stratified according to the result of their mammogram as negative or positive. Mean score of satisfaction was above 2.5 of 4 for all subscales. Women who received positive results were less satisfied with all of subscale factors. Staff interpersonal skills were the most important factor that contributed to general satisfaction. Future efforts such as staff training programme of communication/attitude skills, ensuring privacy and explanation of possible discomfort of the screening would be needed.</P>

      • Ex situ catalytic upgrading of lignocellulosic biomass components over vanadium contained H-MCM-41 catalysts

        Kim, B.S.,Jeong, C.S.,Kim, J.M.,Park, S.B.,Park, S.H.,Jeon, J.K.,Jung, S.C.,Kim, S.C.,Park, Y.K. Elsevier Science Publishers 2016 CATALYSIS TODAY - Vol.265 No.-

<P>H-V-MCM-41 catalysts containing 5, 10, and 30 wt% of vanadium were synthesized and applied to the ex situ catalytic pyrolysis (CP) of three polymeric components of lignocellulosic biomass for the first time. Characterization of the catalysts was performed using N-2 adsorption-desorption, XRD, FT-IR, and NH3-TPD. The results of XRD analysis showed that 5 wt% and 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 catalysts maintained the mesoporous structure, whereas the mesoporous structure was destroyed in 30 wt% H-V-MCM-41 with considerable amount of small V2O5 crystalline outside the framework. NH3-TPD showed that H-V-MCM-41 has mostly weak acid sites and that 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 had the largest quantity of acid sites due to framework vanadium. In the case of CP of cellulose using Py-GC/MS, 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 showed the highest catalytic activity for the production of valuable furanic compounds such as furfural because of the enhanced deoxygenation over the acid sites formed on framework vanadium. In the case of CP of xylan as well, 10 wt% H-V-MCM-41 led to the largest yield of mono-aromatics. The production of acetic acid was also promoted by H-V-MCM-41 catalysts. The CP of lignin over H-V-MCM-41 catalysts promoted substantially the production of important feedstock chemicals for the petrochemical industry: phenolics and mono-aromatics. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. • Cryptotanshinone, a lipophilic compound of Salvia miltiorrriza root, inhibits TNF-α-induced expression of adhesion molecules in HUVEC and attenuates rat myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in vivo

        Jin, Y.C.,Kim, C.W.,Kim, Y.M.,Nizamutdinova, I.T.,Ha, Y.M.,Kim, H.J.,Seo, H.G.,Son, K.H.,Jeon, S.J.,Kang, S.S.,Kim, Y.S.,Kam, S.C.,Lee, J.H.,Chang, K.C. North-Holland ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2009 european journal of pharmacology Vol.614 No.1

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective effect of cryptotanshinone (CTS), one of active ingredients of Salvia miltiorrhiza root, on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat due to inhibition of some inflammatory events that occur by NF-kB-activation during ischemia and reperfusion. Myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury was induced by occluding the left anterior descending coronary artery for 30 min followed by either 2 h (biochemical analysis) or 24 h (myocardial function and infarct size measurement) reperfusion. CTS injected (i.v.) 10 min before ischemia and reperfusion insult. CTS significantly reduced the infarct size and improved ischemia and reperfusion-induced myocardial contractile dysfunction. Furthermore, CTS inhibited NF-kB translocation, expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6), neutrophil infiltration and MPO activity in ischemic myocardial tissues. CTS also significantly reduced plasma levels of TNF-α, IL-1β due to ischemia and reperfusion. Interestingly, H2O2-stimulated NF-kB-luciferase activity and TNF-α-induced expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expressions in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were significantly inhibited by CTS. Taken together, it is concluded that CTS may attenuate ischemia and reperfusion-induced microcirculatory disturbances by inhibition of proinflammatory cytokine production, reduction of neutrophil infiltration and possibly inhibition of adhesion molecules through inhibition of NF-kB-activation during ischemia and reperfusion.

In this study, we investigated how much job-satisfaction and self leadership nurses have. And making use of self leadership, we hope to enhance job- satisfaction and develop nurse organization. To find out the relationship between nurse's self leadership and Job-satisfaction, we carried out a sample survey : The subjects of our study are 150 nurses being in offices(hospitals) at the two university hospitals and three general hospitals in Seoul or Keong-gi province. Nurses agreed with and understood the purpose of our study. For analyzing the result, we used ANOVA of SPSS 14.0. The main results of our study are as follows : According to characteristic of subjects, level of self leadership has a meaningful difference statistically according to marriage, religion, department career, position. As for the marriage, the level of self leadership of the married are higher((F=19.95, p= .000) than the unmarried. . Level of self leadership perceived by subjects is an average 3.50 point. An average points of each factors are as follows : Self-compensation is 3.75 point, rehearsal is 3.57 point, self-expectation is 3.55 point, goal-setting is 3.53 point, self-criticism is 3.31 point, constructive thinking is 3.27 point. The total average is 62.9 point to 90 full marks. Level of self job-satisfaction perceived by subjects is an average 2.98 point to 5 full marks. Level of self job-satisfaction perceived by subjects is an average 2.98 point to 5 full marks. An average points of each factors are as follows : Interrelation is 3.42 point, interrelation between doctors and nurses is 3.35 point, job demand is 3.10 point, administration is 3.02 point, a professional position is 2.94 point, self control is 2.84 point, payment is 2.44 point. A coefficient of co-relation of self leadership and self job-satisfaction is .406 point, a meaning probability is .000 point and they seem to have a close interrelation. Rehearsal among factors of self leadership has the most interrelation with payment of self job-satisfaction. A professional position of self job-satisfaction has the most interrelation with self expectation(r= .314, p= .000). A job demand has the most interrelation with constructive thinking(r= .272, p= .001). A interaction has the most interrelation with self expectation(r= .272. p= .000). A administration has the most interrelation with constructive thinking(r= .411, p= .000). An interrelation between doctors and nurses has the most interrelation with self expectation(r= .385, p= .000). Our study shows there is a close relation between self leadership and job-satisfaction. Especially, self expectation and constructive thinking, the factor of self leadership, appear to affect the nurse's job-satisfaction. It appears that nurses feel to have a intensive job-satisfaction, having positive self leadership, a sense of purpose, and constructive thought. Thus, we need to steadily study self leadership, self control, and internal motivation as a new paradigm focused on self-control and internal motivation for their self-developments and advancement of nurses' organizations.

Determination of the Langmuir and Temkin Adsorption Isotherms of H for the Cathodic H2 Evolution Reaction at a Pt/KOH Solution Interface Using the Phase-Shift Method

        Chun Jang-H.,Jeon Sang-K.,Chun Jin-Y. The Korean Electrochemical Society 2006 한국전기화학회지 Vol.9 No.1

The phase-shift method for determining the Langmuir, Frumkin, and Temkin adsorption isotherms ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$) of H for the cathodic $H_2$ evolution reaction (HER) at a Pt/0.1 M KOH solution interface has been proposed and verified using cyclic voltammetric, differential pulse voltammetric, and electrochemical impedance techniques. At the Pt/0.1 M KOH solution interface, the Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherms ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$), the equilibrium constants ($K_H=2.9X10^{-4}mol^{-1}$ for the Langmuir and $K_H=2.9X10^{-3}\exp(-4.6\theta_H)mol^{-1}$ for the Temkin adsorption isotherm), the interaction parameters (g=0 far the Langmuir and g=4.6 for the Temkin adsorption isotherm), the rate of change of the standard free energy of $\theta_H\;with\;\theta_H$ (r=11.4 kJ $mol^{-1}$ for g=4.6), and the standard free energies (${\Delta}G_{ads}^{\circ}=20.2kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for $k_H=2.9\times10^{-4}mol^{-1}$, i.e., the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, and $16.7<{\Delta}G_\theta^{\circ}<23.6kJ\;mol^{-1}$ for $K_H=2.9\times10^{-3}\exp(-4.6\theta_H)mol^{-1}$ and $0.2<\theta_H<0.8$, i.e., the Temkin adsorption isotherm) of H for the cathodic HER are determined using the phase-shift method. At intermediate values of $\theta_H$, i.e., $0.2<\theta_H<0.8$, the Temkin adsorption isotherm ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$) corresponding to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm ($\theta_H\;vs.\;E$), and vice versa, is readily determined using the constant conversion factors. The phase-shift method and constant conversion factors are useful and effective for determining the Langmuir, Frumkin, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of intermediates for sequential reactions and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic data at electrode catalyst interfaces.

A novel chimeric promoter that is highly responsive to hypoxia and metals

        Lee, J-Y,Lee, Y-S,Kim, J-M,Kim, K L,Lee, J-S,Jang, H-S,Shin, I-S,Suh, W,Jeon, E-S,Byun, J,Kim, D-K Nature Publishing Group 2006 Gene Therapy Vol.13 No.10

To develop a potent hypoxia-inducible promoter, we evaluated the usefulness of chimeric combinations of the (Egr-1)-binding site (EBS) from the Egr-1 gene, the metal-response element (MRE) from the metallothionein gene, and the hypoxia-response element (HRE) from the phosphoglycerate kinase 1 gene. In transient transfection assays, combining three copies of HRE (3 × HRE) with either EBS or MRE significantly increased hypoxia responsiveness. When a three-enhancer combination was tested, the EBS–MRE-3 × HRE (E–M–H) gave a hypoxia induction ratio of 69. The expression induced from E–M–H-pGL3 was 2.4-fold higher than that induced from H-pGL3 and even surpassed the expression from a human cytomegalovirus promoter-driven vector. The high inducibility of E–M–H was confirmed by validation studies in different cells and by expressing other cDNAs. Gel shift assays together with functional overexpression studies suggested that increased levels of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α, metal transcription factor-1 and Egr-1 may be associated with the high inducibility of the E–M–H chimeric promoter. E–M–H was also induced by hypoxia mimetics such as Co2+ and deferoxamine (DFX) and by hydrogen peroxide. Gene expression from the E–M–H was reversible as shown by the reduced expression of the transgene upon removal of inducers such as hypoxia and DFX. In vivo evaluation of the E–M–H in ischemic muscle revealed that erythropoietin secretion and luciferase and LacZ expression were significantly higher in the E–M–H group than in a control or H group. With its high induction capacity and versatile means of modulation, this novel chimeric promoter should find wide application in the treatment of ischemic diseases and cancer.Gene Therapy (2006) 13, 857–868. doi:10.1038/sj.gt.3302728; published online 9 February 2006

Amplification of Porcine SRY Gene for Sex Determination

        Choi, S.G.,Bae, M.S.,Lee, E.S.,Kim, S.O.,Kim, B.K.,Yang, J.H.,Jeon, C.E.,Kim, H.H.,Hwang, Y.J.,Lee, E.S.,Kim, D.Y. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2009 Animal Bioscience Vol.22 No.8

The separation of X and Y chromosome-bearing sperm is of use in many aspects of livestock maintenance. In this study, we sought to determine the difference in DNA content between X- and Y-bearing sperm, separate sperm into X- and Y-enriched pools, and assess the efficacy of sorting. Sperm collected from Duroc and miniature pigs were stained with 20.8 $\mu{M}$ Hoechst 33342 and analyzed using a high-speed cell sorter. Measurement of the fluorescence intensity of stained sperm nuclei revealed that the X-bearing sperm of Duroc and miniature pigs respectively contain 2.75% and 2.88% more DNA than Y-bearing sperm. In total, 50.18% of the sperm were assigned to the X-sorted sample and 49.82% was assigned to the Y-sorted sample for Duroc pigs. For miniature pigs, the Xsorted sample represented 50.19% of the population and the Y-sorted represented 49.81% of the population. Duplex PCR was used to evaluate accuracy of sorting. A fast and reliable method for porcine sexing was developed through amplification of the sex-determining region of the Y chromosome gene (SRY). Oligonucleotide primers were designed to amplify the conserved porcine SRY high motility group (HMG) box sequence motif. We found that the primer pair designed in this study was 1.46 times more specific than previously reported primers. Thus, this study shows that the present method can be applied in porcine breeding programs to facilitate manipulation of the sex ratio of offspring and to achieve precise sexing of porcine offspring by amplification of the HMG box of the SRY gene.

      • Anchoring sulfonic acid on silica surface through Si?C bond for immobilization of catalyst for polyketone synthesis

        Eo, S.C.,Lee, S.,Park, G.H.,Jeon, J.Y.,Lee, B.Y. Elsevier Science Publishers 2016 CATALYSIS TODAY - Vol.265 No.-

<P>Sulfonic acid groups were anchored on a silica surface through robust Si-C bonds. The successive treatment of dehydroxylated silica with benzylmagnesium chloride and H2SO4 resulted in the surface tethering of -CH2C6H4SO3H groups at a high coverage rate (0.50-CH2C6H4SO3H/nm(2)). The pore structure of the silica remained unchanged during this surface-modification process. Next, the -CH2C6H4SO3H groups on the surface were successfully used for preparing a supported catalyst for CO/ethylene copolymerization; the Si-CH2C6H4SO3H groups on the surface were reacted with [1,3-bis(di(2-methoxyphenyl)phosphino)propane]Pd-( OAc)(2) to generate dicationic palladium species, which were anchored on the silica surface through ionic interactions with the sulfonate anions generated on the surface. The supported catalyst prepared in this way exhibited a high activity (up to 43 kg/g-Pd or 0.61 kg/g-cat) with respect to CO/ethylene copolymerization. The morphology of the obtained polymer particles replicated that of the silica particles. Thus, a polymer powder that exhibited a high bulk density (0.30 g/mL) could be obtained while causing minimal reactor fouling. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

Irradiation induces glioblastoma cell senescence and senescence-associated secretory phenotype

        Jeon, H. Y.,Kim, J. K.,Ham, S. W.,Oh, S. Y.,Kim, J.,Park, J. B.,Lee, J. Y.,Kim, S. C.,Kim, H. Springer Science + Business Media 2016 TUMOR BIOLOGY Vol.37 No.5

<P>Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the most aggressive and fatal primary brain tumors in humans. The standard therapy for the treatment of GBM is surgical resection, followed by radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. However, the frequency of tumor recurrence in GBM patients is very high, and the survival rate remains poor. Delineating the mechanisms of GBM recurrence is essential for therapeutic advances. Here, we demonstrate that irradiation rendered 17-20 % of GBM cells dead, but resulted in 60-80 % of GBM cells growth-arrested with increases in senescence markers, such as senescence-associated beta-galactosidase-positive cells, H3K9me3-positive cells, and p53-p21(CIP1)-positive cells. Moreover, irradiation induced expression of senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) mRNAs and NF kappa B transcriptional activity in GBM cells. Strikingly, compared to injection of non-irradiated GBM cells into immune-deficient mice, the co-injection of irradiated and non-irradiated GBM cells resulted in faster growth of tumors with the histological features of human GBM. Taken together, our findings suggest that the increases in senescent cells and SASP in GBM cells after irradiation is likely one of main reasons for tumor recurrence in post-radiotherapy GBM patients.</P>
