Silicon-to-silicon anodic bonding was accomplished using lithium doped interlayer. Lithium doped interlayers were deposited on silicon substrates by electron beam evaporation, which has a fast deposition rate compared with sputtering method. Silicon-to-silicon bonding occurs in the range of temperatures from 250℃ to 300℃ with the applied voltages from 70V_(DC) to 100V_(DC). The bonding strength obtained from tensile test was about 5MPa under the condition of 80V_(DC) in 300℃. The surface morphology of lithium doped interlayer was studied with the atomic force microscopy (AFM). Finally, secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) analysis was carried out in order to investigate the role of the lithium ions in bonding mechanism.
Development of a Genistein-enriched Doenjang Using Corn β-Glucosidase

Genistein, one of the isoflavones in doenjang, is generally known to prevent various cancers, osteoporosis, climacterium, and menopause symptoms, and has better bioavailability and healthful physiological effects than its glucoside, genistin. In both traditional and commercial doenjangs, genistein content ranged from 370 to 1,510 mg/kg, however, significant amounts of genistin also existed at the level of 190 to 350 mg/kg. After treating with corn β-glucosidase, over 84% of genistin in doenjang was converted to genistein. However, physiochemical characteristics such as pH, viscosity, 2-thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value, and color were not changed significantly after corn β-glucosidase treatments. Therefore, this study shows that the improved doenjang with the increased genistein content can be produced using corn β-glucosidase.

N/A Objective : The study was designed to find out current state of conservative treatment modalities for cervical pregnancies in korean. Method : 64 cases of cervical pregnancies reported by the joining of The Korean Society of Obstetrics & Gynecology from 1960 to 2000 and the 10 cases at Chungnam National University Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. Results : The average age of the 74 cases was 31.7±6.6 years, and the average gestational age at the time of diagnosis was 8.3±3.4 weeks. The average duration of hospitalization was 8.2±4.8 days. Most (67/74) of the patients had previously experienced delivery or abortion. Out of the 74 cases, 36 had total hysterectomy; 4 cases had curettage; 12 were used only methotrexate; 11 had combined curettage and methotrexate; 10 cases had Foley catheter ballooning after curettage. From the 1960's to the end of 1980's, 33 (84.6%) cases out of 39 were performed hysterectomy. Whereas mainly conservative methods, in particular methotrexate treatment, were performed in the 1990's. Among the conservative modalities, Foley catheter ballooning after curettage had the shortest length of hospitalization with 4.3 days. Conclusion : After comparing the conservative methods for treating cervical pregnancies, it was found that methotrexate treatment was performed the most; however, Foley catheter ballooning after curettage seems to be an excellent treatment option.
Streptobacillus sp.가 생산하는 pullulanase에 관한 연구

A bacterium with the highest pullulanase activity was isolated from the soil and identified as Streptobacillus sp. Y-716. The optimum culture condition of Streptobacillus sp. for the production of pullulanase was as follows; 1.2%(w/v)soluble starch, 0.7%(w/v) CH₃COONH₄, 0.05%(w/v) MgSO₄7 H₂O, 0.01%(w/v)FeSO₄7H₂O, at 30℃, for 48 hrs. The pullulanase from the culture broth of Streptobacillus sp. Y-716 was purified about 46 fold by ammonium sulfate precipitation, dialysis. DEAE-cellulose and Sephadex G-200 column chromatography. The purified enzyme was stable between pH 5.0 and pH 7.5. It was inactivated rapidly above 35℃. The Km value and Vmax of the purified enzyme were 0.0137mg/m/ and 0.666μm/min. on pullulan, respectively.

PURPOSE. This study compared the SCGAs measured in three types of radiographic images (panoramic, CBCT panoramic-section, and CBCT cross-section images) with values measured using the protrusive occlusal record. MATERIALS AND METHODS. SCGAs were measured in 20 patients on a semi-adjustable articulator using the protrusive interocclusal record. Panoramic and CBCT images were obtained. SCGAs were measured on CBCT images in panoramic and cross sections. In all of the radiographic images, SCGAs were measured using the Frankfort horizontal reference line and the mean curvature line. The most-superior and most-inferior points of the curvatures were identified to determine the mean curvature line. Each measurement was performed twice by two operators independently. The data were analyzed by the t-test, Pearson’s correlation test, and Cronbach’s α using SPSS (α=.05). RESULTS. The mean right and left SCGAs were as follows: protrusive occlusal record (30.1 and 30.2 degrees, respectively), panoramic (38.9 and 38.7 degrees), CBCT panoramic sections (35.4 and 36.8 degrees), and CBCT cross sections (35.3 and 36.1 degrees). The SCGAs differed significantly among the groups. The Pearson coefficients for the correlations with the protrusive occlusal record measurements on the left and right sides were as follows: panoramic (0.834 and 0.791, respectively), CBCT panoramic-section (0.918 and 0.837), and CBCT cross-section (0.918 and 0.845) images. CONCLUSION. Strong correlations were found between SCGAs obtained using radiographic images and the protrusive occlusal record.

Background: A vasoreactive subset of patients with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) was noted in Western countries, which showed favorable prognosis with treatment with high-dose calcium channel blockers. We aimed to identify IPAH patients with vasoreactivity in Korea and to show their clinical characteristics and prognosis. Methods: Data on patients who were diagnosed with IPAH at Asan Medical Center between January 1994 and March 2013 were retrospectively collected. Acute vasodilator testing was performed with inhaled nitric oxide during diagnostic right heart catheterization. A positive acute response was defined as a reduction in mean pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) =10 mm Hg to an absolute level of mean PAP <40 mm Hg without a decrease in cardiac output. Results: Among a total of 60 IPAH patients included for analysis, 9 (15%) showed a positive acute response to acute vasodilator testing. Acute responders showed significantly lower peak velocity of a tricuspid regurgitation jet on echocardiography (4.1 ± 0.3 m/s versus 4.6 ± 0.6 m/s; P = 0.01) and significantly lower mean PAP hemodynamically (47 ± 10 mm Hg versus 63 ± 17 mm Hg; P = 0.003) than non-responders at baseline. The survival rate of acute responders was 88% at 1, 3, 5, and 10 years, respectively, which was significantly higher than that of non-responders (85%, 71%, 55%, and 40%, respectively; P = 0.029). Conclusions: Korean IPAH patients with vasoreactivity showed better baseline hemodynamic features and survival than those without vasoreactivity.

<P>Substituted cathinones are synthetic analogs of the active components of natural products and are widely abused worldwide. However, the rewarding properties of these agents have not yet been evaluated. In this study, we investigated the abuse potential of buphedrone [2-(methylamino)-1-phenylbutan-1-one, alpha-methylamino-butyrophenone] and its effects on the mesolimbic dopaminergic system in mice using conditioned place preference (CPP) analysis, a self-administration test, a locomotor activity test, a behavioral sensitization test and Western blot analysis. Treatment with buphedrone supported CPP and self-administration, enhanced locomotor activity and produced behavioral sensitization when mice were challenged with methamphetamine. SCH23390, a D1 dopamine antagonist, prevented buphedrone-induced CPP, whereas raclopride, a D2 dopamine antagonist, had no effect. SCH23390 also blocked locomotor activity increase by buphedrone, while raclopride partially attenuated locomotor activation. Western blot analysis revealed that repeated buphedrone treatment increased D1 dopamine receptor expression in the dorsal striatum and nucleus accumbens in mice. Collectively, these findings suggest the abuse potential of buphedrone and demonstrate the involvement of the dopaminergic system in the establishment of its rewarding properties.</P>
