        2010 파주, 안산지역 갈대, 억새 등 야초류의 이용실태와 사료가치 평가

        본 연구는 부존 조사료자원의 이용을 활성화하여 수입사료를 줄이고 가축 사료비를 절감하고자 2010년도에 경기 파주 (민통선 지역)와 경기 안산 (시화지구)에서 갈대와 억새 등 야초자생지를 탐색하고, 수확?이용실태 조사와 함께 사료가치를 분석하였다. 파주 민통선 내억새 (Miscanthus sinensis)와 갈대 (Phragmites communis) 혼합 자생지는 90~100 ㏊ 규모로, 1차 곤포작업으로 사일리지 520톤 (㏊당 6톤), 2차로 380톤 (㏊당 4톤)을 조제하여, 연 사일리지 900톤 (㏊당 10톤)을 생산하였다. 곤포의 유통가격은 롤당 52~55천 원으로 ㎏당 130~137.5원이었다. 곤포는 자가소비 50~70%, 판매유통 30~50%로, 수익성은 인건비 정도로 추정되었다. 초장 70 ㎝의 재생 억새는 조단백질 9.6%, 상대사료가치 82.4 (건초 4등급), 건물 소화율 67.7%, 초장 70 ㎝의 재생 갈대는 각각 13.8%, 84.3 (4등급), 67.9%로 사료가치는 높았으며, 수확이 늦어짐에 따라 사료가치는 크게 낮아졌다. 안산 시화지구 (3공구)의 갈대 등 야초류자생지는 100 ㏊ 정도로 2009년도에는 50 ㏊에서 사일리지 550톤 (㏊당 11톤)을 생산하여 롤당 50천 원에 유통하였으며, 2010년도는 잦은 강우와 장마로 부분 이용에 그쳤다. 고초기의 갈대는 건물률 89.8%, 조단백질 2.2%, NDF 80.6%, ADF 55.4%, 상대사료가치 52.9 (5등급), 건물 소화율 36.4%로 볏짚에 비해서도 사료가치는 크게 낮았다. 초장 80 ㎝의 재생 갈대는 조단백질 12.9%, 상대사료가치 99.8 (3등급), 건물 소화율 66.6%로 사료가치는 양호하였으며, 개화기의 초장 150 ㎝ 갈대는 조단백질 4.5%, 상대사료가치 59.9 (5등급), 건물 소화율 42.2%로 볏짚의 사료가치와 비슷하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여볼 때, 갈대, 억새 등 야초류는 현 상태에서 최대한 수거?이용하되, 사료가치를 유지하고 가축 기호성을 고려한 시기에 수확하는 것이 중요하며, 최소한 볏짚과 비슷하거나 그 이상의 사료가치를 기대하기 위해서는 7월 중순 이전 (늦어도 7월까지)에 수확?이용하는 것이 권장된다. 본 연구에서 조사된 대부분의 야초류는 상대사료가치가 75 이하인 건초 5등급으로 사료가치는 매우 낮았으며, 키가 작은 영양생장기에 수확한 경우에만 4등급으로 나타났다. 부존 조사료자원의 이용은 양질의 사료작물 생산과 병행하여 추진하는 것이 바람직하였다. This study was carried out in 2010 to investigate the utilization and nutritive value of native grasses, such as Phragmites communis and Miscanthus sinensis which might reduce the cost of feeding domestic cattle. The regions within the Civilian Control Line in Paju and Sihwa region in Ansan were surveyed. In Paju, the yearly silage production was 900 MT harvested from 90 ha (10 MT/㏊). About 30~50% of these were sold out at the marketing price of 52,000~55,000 Won per roll (130~137.5 Won/㎏). Regrown Miscanthus sinensis of 70 ㎝ in length contained 9.6% of crude protein (CP), 82.4 of relative feed value (RFV), and 67.7% of in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD). Regrown Phragmites communis of 70 ㎝ in length contained 13.8% of CP, 84.3 of RFV, and 67.9% of IVDMD. As harvesting was delayed, the quality was decreased dramatically. In Ansan region, Phragmites communis plantation covers 100 ha. The silage production was 550 MT from the area of 50 ha (11 MT/㏊) in 2009. And the marketing price was 50,000 Won per roll. But in 2010 only a small amount of grasses could have been baled due to frequent and much rainfall from spring to summer season. However, the good forage quality was observed from regrown Phragmites communis of 80 ㎝ in length, 12.9% CP, 99.8 RFV and 66.6% IVDMD, while that of late matured grasses was very low, 2.2% CP, 52.9 RFV and 36.4% IVDMD, greatly lower than forage quality of rice straw. The quality of grasses at bloom stage of 150 ㎝ in length was similar to that of rice straw, showing 4.5% CP, 59.9 RFV and 42.2% IVDMD. In conclusion, the overall quality of most native grasses in this survey were very poor. Therefore, we recommend that Phragmites communis and Miscanthus sinensis should be harvested during June or July to obtain better forage quality which is richer in forage values than rice straw. Production of high quality forage crops was also desirable for self sufficiency of forage.

      • Porosity effect of 3D-printed polycaprolactone membranes on calvarial defect model for guided bone regeneration

        <P>The appropriate porosity and pore size of barrier membranes were associated with the transportation of biomolecules required for new bone formation and angiogenesis. In this study, we fabricated three-dimensional (3D)-printed resorbable polycaprolactone (PCL) membranes with different porosities (30%, 50%, and 70%) to evaluate the effective pore size for guided bone regeneration (GBR) membranes. To analyze mechanical properties and cytocompatibility, PCL membranes prepared using extrusion-based 3D printing technology were compared in dry and wet conditions and tested in vitro. The proliferation rates and pattern of fibroblasts and preosteoblasts on PCL membranes with different porosities were determined using a cell counting kit-8 assay and scanning electron microscopy. PCL membrane porosity did not affect cell proliferation, but osteogenic differentiation and mechanical properties were increased with lower porosity (30%) on day 14 (p < 0.001). Similar results were found in an in vivo calvarial defect model; new bone formation was significantly higher in PCL membranes with lower porosity (p < 0.001). These results indicate that 3D-printed PCL with 30% porosity (130 mu m pore size) is an excellent pore size for GBR membranes.</P>

      • Liver Transplantation as the Only Curative Treatment Option for Terminal Stage (BCLC D) Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients Meeting the Milan Criteria

        Aims: Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) guidelines do not include specific recommendations for treating patients with terminal stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In general, liver transplantation (LT) is a viable treatment option for end-stage liver disease. We aimed to identify whether LT could be considered the treatment of choice for patients with BCLC D stage HCC within Milan criteria, in addition to the standard transplant indications. Methods: A retrospective cohort of 425 patients with Milan-in HCC who underwent LT primarily (n=179) or after chemoembolization as bridge therapy (n=287) was included in this study. Overall survival and recurrence-free survival after LT were compared between patients with Child-Pugh class A/B and class C. Patient- and tumor-related factors affecting post-LT outcomes were also examined in the pooled cohort. Radiological tumor parameters were assessed using the enhancement method in patients with prior chemoembolization. Results: Of the entire 425 patients, 323 (76.0%) and 102 (24.0%) had Child-Pugh A/B and C, respectively. During a median follow-up period of 5.6 years, post-LT overall and recurrence-free survival rates of Child-Pugh C patients were 85.1% and 82.2%, respectively at 5 years, which were comparable to those of Child-Pugh A/B patients (86.0% and 81.3%; Ps=NS). Similar survival trends were observed in both primary and secondary LT subsets. In Cox regression models, the unadjusted hazard ratio (HR) of Child-Pugh C was 1.21 (95% confidence interval, 0.72-2.05; P=NS) for overall survival; and 0.99 (0.60-1.62; P=NS) for recurrence-free survival. Bridging therapy also affected neither overall (1.17 [0.72-1.90]) nor recurrence-free survival (1.26 [0.81-1.96]; Ps=NS). Multivariate analyses showed that microvascular invasion, high alpha-fetoprotein, and pathology beyond Milan were independent predictors of both shorter overall and recurrence-free survivals (Ps<0.05). Conclusions: Our data indicate that LT should be considered a preferred treatment option in decompensated patients with BCLC D stage HCC who stayed within transplantable criteria.

        Original Article : Clinical outcomes of transjugular intrahepatic portosys-temic shunt for portal hypertension: Korean multicenter real-practice data

        Background/Aims: This retrospective study assessed the clinical outcome of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure for managing portal hypertension in Koreans with liver cirrhosis. Methods: Between January 2003 and July 2013, 230 patients received a TIPS in 13 university-based hospitals. Results: Of the 229 (99.6%) patients who successfully underwent TIPS placement, 142 received a TIPS for variceal bleeding, 84 for refractory ascites, and 3 for other indications. The follow-up period was 24.9±30.2 months (mean±SD), 74.7% of the stents were covered, and the primary patency rate at the 1-year follow-up was 78.7%. Hemorrhage occurred in 30 (21.1%) patients during follow-up; of these, 28 (93.3%) cases of rebleeding were associated with stent dysfunction. Fifty-four (23.6%) patients developed new hepatic encephalopathy, and most of these patients were successfully managed conservatively. The cumulative survival rates at 1, 6, 12, and 24 months were 87.5%, 75.0%, 66.8%, and 57.5%, respectively. A high Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score was significantly associated with the risk of death within the first month after receiving a TIPS (P=0.018). Old age (P<0.001), indication for a TIPS (ascites vs. bleeding, P=0.005), low serum albumin (P<0.001), and high MELD score (P=0.006) were associated with overall mortality. Conclusions: A high MELD score was found to be significantly associated with early and overall mortality rate in TIPS patients. Determining the appropriate indication is warranted to improve survival in these patients. (Clin Mol Hepatol 2014;20:18-27)

        Size-controlled InGaN/GaN nanorod LEDs with an ITO/graphene transparent layer

        <P>We introduce ITO on graphene as a current-spreading layer for separated InGaN/GaN nanorod LEDs for the purpose of passivation-free and high light-extraction efficiency. Transferred graphene on InGaN/GaN nanorods effectively blocks the diffusion of ITO atoms to nanorods, facilitating the production of transparent ITO/graphene contact on parallel-nanorod LEDs, without filling the air gaps, like a bridge structure. The ITO/graphene layer sufficiently spreads current in a lateral direction, resulting in uniform and reliable light emission observed from the whole area of the top surface. Using KOH treatment, we reduce series resistance and reverse leakage current in nanorod LEDs by recovering the plasma-damaged region. We also control the size of the nanorods by varying the KOH treatment time and observe strain relaxation via blueshift in electroluminescence. As a result, bridge-structured LEDs with 8 min of KOH treatment show 15 times higher light-emitting efficiency than with 2 min of KOH treatment.</P>

        Comparative simulation of hydrogen production derived from gasification system with CO<sub>2</sub> reduction by various feedstocks

        <P>Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) technology is recognized as an alternative to conventional fossil fuel power plants for cleaner electricity generation. As well as electricity, chemical energy is also produced in the form of syngas that can be further converted into valuable chemicals such as hydrogen, dimethyl ether and synthetic fuel. This study focuses on 300 MW<SUB>e</SUB> scale gasification system for poly-generation of both H<SUB>2</SUB> and electricity by utilizing various feedstocks while achieving CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture using monoethanolamine absorption. The investigated feedstocks are pulverized dry coal and coal water slurry from Illinois ♯6 coal, bunker-C, naphtha and bitumen. A simulation model of the gasification system is prepared with the following sub-processes: fuel preparing, gasification, ash removal, acid gas removal, water gas shift, H<SUB>2</SUB> purification process and combined cycle model simulated by ASPEN plus. The performance of the developed model is compared for each feedstock in terms of poly-generation and CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture, according to the following evaluation parameters: cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion of the gasifier, production rate of H<SUB>2</SUB>, plant net efficiency and CO<SUB>2</SUB> avoidance. Finally, sensitivity analysis is conducted on the following operating parameters of the shifted reactors for H<SUB>2</SUB> production: divergence fraction, temperature and reactor pressure.         Electroencephalography for Early Detection of Alzheimer’s Disease in Subjective Cognitive Decline

        Background and Purpose: Early detection of subjective cognitive decline (SCD) due to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is important for clinical research and effective prevention and management. This study examined if quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) could be used for early detection of AD in SCD. Methods: Participants with SCD from 6 dementia clinics in Korea were enrolled. 18F-florbetaben brain amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) was conducted for all the participants. qEEG was performed to measure power spectrum and source cortical activity. Results: The present study included 95 participants aged over 65 years, including 26 amyloid PET (+) and 69 amyloid PET (−). In participants with amyloid PET (+), relative power at delta band was higher in frontal (p=0.025), parietal (p=0.005), and occipital (p=0.022) areas even after adjusting for age, sex, and education. Source activities of alpha 1 band were significantly decreased in the bilateral fusiform and inferior temporal areas, whereas those of delta band were increased in the bilateral cuneus, pericalcarine, lingual, lateral occipital, precuneus, posterior cingulate, and isthmus areas. There were increased connections between bilateral precuneus areas but decreased connections between left rostral middle frontal area and bilateral frontal poles at delta band in participants with amyloid PET (+) showed. At alpha 1 band, there were decreased connections between bilateral entorhinal areas after adjusting for covariates. Conclusions: SCD participants with amyloid PET (+) showed increased delta and decreased alpha 1 activity. qEEG is a potential means for predicting amyloid pathology in SCD. Further longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings.
