        Learning Style Preferences

        Yum, Hea-Young. 1997. Learning Style Preferences. Linguistics, 5-1, 75-84. Some theories can solve the problems of students' failure at school. But the most important teacher's role for those students is to know their learning style. Learning style is the cognitive and interactional patterns which affect the ways in which students perceive, remember and think. Therefore when teachers know their students' learning style preferences, those students learn more with less effort and remember better. In my paper, I tried to figure out Korean students' learning style in the United States and compare those results with those of native Americans. And also I tried to figure out whether the length of staying in the United States has affected their learning style preferences. (Wonkwang University)

        The Input Hypothesis" and the Second Language Teacher

        Yum, Hea-Young(1955). The "Input Hypothesis" and the Second Language Teacher. Linguistics vol. 3. Although there are many other factors which affect the language learner's proficiency such as personality, age and first language, the learner's input has been emphasized by many researchers (Krashen 1976, 1977; Dulay et al 1981). Especially, Krashen's "input hypothesis" emphasizes the comprehensible input to language learners. His thesis is that language learners must give an i+1 level of teaching to language learners. Thus, the second language teacher should know the current level of proficiency and develop an one-level higher teaching program. In my paper, I will consider some factors which need to be considered to make a comprehensible input for language learners. Particularly, I will consider linguistic input for language learners. Phonological, Morphological, syntactic, Semantic, and Pragmatic considerations to make a good teaching plan will be discussed in this paper. As a conclusion, I will argue that the second language teacher needs to have Contrastive Analysis for inter-language influence, and Error Analysis for intra-linguistic influence to the students.

        교육적 지식정보 자원이 무용 창작활동에 미치는 영향 - 브르뒤에 문화자본론을 중심으로 -

        The 21st century characterized by the globalized social structure and information flood has seen improvements with the creative environment for dance thanks to the expansion of diverse dance markets and increase to creation grants, which aim for the activation of dance creations. Despite those improvements, however, the Korean dance community still lacks creative works being criticized for its "creation of weak dance aesthetics" and "performance in idle styles." Such criticisms inevitably lead to a comment on the dance education whose responsibilities include bringing up and educating future dance creators. Thus this study started with the recognition of the importance and seriousness of dance education that formed the base for stimulating the innate creative life force of dance and setting the desirable directions in dance creations. The purpose of this study was to conduct an empirical investigation into what kind of impacts the educational knowledge and information resources would have on creative activities for dance. For that purpose, total 670 questionnaires were distributed to dance creators with a bachelor`s degree or higher across the nation, being collected and treated in the following stages. The questionnaire employed in the study was the one used in the investigator`s thesis for a doctor`s degree(Yun Hea-joung, 2006), which examined how dance communicators` knowledge and information resources would influence their acts of information pursuit related to creations and actual creative activities. The collected data were treated and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program in descriptive statistical analysis, Cronbach`s test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Those procedures and methods resulted in the following conclusions: First, the higher socioeconomic status they had, the more they used the educational knowledge and information resources. Second, the more they used the educational knowledge and information resources, the more they engaged in creative activities for dance. In short, the educational knowledge and information resources affected by the dance creators` socioeconomic status exercised significant influences on their creative activities for dance. It was also proved that the influences were greater from private education than public education and from elementary education than higher education.

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of heart rate(HR), Ventileation, Carbon elimination, Oxygen take, Oxygen uptake per weight, Respiratory Exchange ratio and Breath frequency. To do this, we selected three Synthetic tennis playing surface(A:Synpave Rebound Ace Sample, B:Synpave Rebound Classic Sample, C:Synpave Spring Sample) by using of Austrilian Tennis Open. The result of this study is as follows 1. In the changes of heart rate(HR, beats/min), it is not significantly in a stastics. Tennis playing surface sample A was shown a little bit higher than sample C, sample C was shown a little bit higher than sample B, 2. In the changes of Ventileation(VE, 1/min), it is not significantly in a stastics. Tennis playing surface sample B was shown a little bit higher than sample A·C, sample C was shown a little bit higher than sample A, 3. In the changes of Carbon elimination (Vco2, ml/min), it is not significantly in a stastics. Tennis playing surface sample A was shown a little bit higher than sample B·C, sample B was shown a little bit higher than sample C, 4. In the changes of Oxygen take (Vo2, ml/min), it is not significantly in a stastics. Tennis playing surface sample A was shown a little bit higher than sample B·C, sample B was shown a little bit higher than sample C, 5. In the changes of Oxygen uptake per weight(Vo2/wt, ml/kg/min), it is not significantly in a stastics. Tennis playing surface sample A was shown a little bit higher than sample B·C, sample B was shown a little bit higher than sample C, 6. In the changes of Respiratory Exchange ratio(RER, Vco2/Vo2), it is not significantly in a stastics. Tennis playing surface sample A was shown a little bit higher than sample B·C, sample C was shown a little bit higher than sample B, 7. In the changes of Breath frequency (BF, fre/min), it is not significantly in a stastics. Tennis playing surface sample B was shown a little bit higher than sample A·C.

Child Welfare act must make a provision about corporal punishment in order to eliminate the culture recognition of child abuse and neglect.

        장애인용 운동의사결정 균형검사의 요인불변성

        The purpose of this study is to introduce on factorial invariance for persons with disabilities of multi-group testing by structural equation modeling. Further, the second purpose involved assessing the construct validity and invariance of the two factor first-order model to the Decisional Balance for Exercise Scale (DBES) in a persons with disabilities (n=190) and non-disabilities (n=551) sample. For comparing the invariance of the factor structures in the DBES of multiple samples, a systematic way involves the testing of a series of hierarchical hypotheses by Jo^(‥)reskog and So^(‥)rbam (1989). To conduct this analysis, a preliminary test of invariance across persons with disabilities and non-disabilities groups in terms of their covariance structures (i.e., ∑_(1)=∑_(2)) is analyzed. The hypothesis of equal covariance structures for DBES persons with disabilities sample and non-disabilities sample was rejected. Thus, the analysis proceeded to test the hypotheses of invariance to find parameters responsible for the different covariance structures. It was rejected the hypotheses of invariance factor patterns (Ho. 2) at the significance level of 5%. In sum, this analysis indicated that the refined DBES does measure the different underlying concept of both samples.

        품행장애 청소년의 음악치료 사례연구

        요 약 : 이 사례는 1998년 6월부터 9월까지 주 1회 30분씩 서울국립정신병원에 입원한 품행장애 청소년들을 대상으로 한 음악치료 사례로, 그룹 음악치료에 참여한 환아들 중 가장 지속적으로 참여한 두명의 여자 환아(A, B)에 초점을 맞추었다. 음악치료 세션은 다음과 갈이 3부분으로 나누어진다 ; 시작할 때 부르는 인사노래, 다양한 음악적 활동, 그리고 마칠 때 하는 소리내기와 움직이기 주로 사용되었던 음악치료 기술들로는 자유로운 즉흥연주, 노래 토론, 음악 모노드라마, 그리고 소리내기와 움직이기를 들 수 있다. 자유로운 즉흥연주는 환아들의 감정과 생각을 강화시키고, 동기유발을 하며, 연주를 통해 상징적으로 자신을 볼 수 있게 하기 위해 사용되었다 노래 토론은 그들의 생각을 담아내고 지지하기 위해 사용되었다 음악 모노드라마는 그들이 가지고 있는 대인 관계적 문제에 대한 통찰력을 갖게 하기 위해 사용되었다. 소리내기와 움직이기는 그들에게 결여되어 있는 자발성을 강화하기 위해 사용되었고 이를 통해 자신들의 신체와 목소리를 표현적 도구로 탐색하게끔 만들었다 음악치료를 하는 3개월 동안 환아 A는 그룹에서 대화 기술, 사회성 그리고 행동적인 측면에서 향상을 보였다. 그녀는 음악을 상징적으로 사용할 수 있게 되었고 자신과 자신의 가족에 대한 느낌을 그룹과 공유할 수 있게 되었다. 환아 B는 자기표현 능력이 향상되었다. 그녀는 보다 더 자발적으로 그룹에서 자신의 감정에 대해 말을 할 수 있게 되었다. 비언어적이고 비위협적인 수단으로서 음악은 두 여자 환아들에게 그들이 자신을 표현하기 위해 필요한 신뢰감을 다시 회복할 수 있는 환경을 제공한 것으로 보인다. The short-term music therapy was performed for adolescents with conduct disorder admitted to Seoul National Mental Hospital for 3 months from Jun to September, 1998. This case study focused mainly on two female patients who participated regularly in the group music therapy. The music therapy process wad divided into three phases; beginning, opening up, and closing. This music therapy session consisted of three parts; hello song as beginning, various musical activities, and sound & movement activity as closing. Free musical improvisation, song discussion, musical monodrama, and sound & movement were the mainly applied techniques. Free improvisation was used to enhance, motivate, indentify and contain the adolescents' feelings and ideas. Song discussion was used to convey their thoughts and to support each other. Musical monodrama was used to make them have insights into interpersonal relationships. Sound & movement was used to enhance spontaneity. It made them explore their body and voice as an expressive medium. Throughout three months period of music therapy, patient A's communication skill, socialization, and behavior areas were assessed with improvement. She could use music as a symbolic form and was able to share her feelings about herself and her family. Patient B's self-expression and cognitive areas were assessed with improvement. She became more spontaneous and could verbalize her emotions during the group session. Music as a non-verbal and therefore often a non-threatening medium wherein so much can be expressed provided two female patients an atmosphere where a sense of trust may be regained.       • Benz[f]indole-4,9-dione 유도체의 Topoisomerase I-DNA에 대한 결합형태와 저해작용 간의 상관관계

        We present binding modes of newly eethesized benzlflindole4,94ione analogs with topoisomerase I (TOPI)-DNA complex The compounds were tested for cytotoxicity and 10pl inhibitory activity in our previous study. Camptothecin (CPI) and each of the 15 analogs were docked into the X-ray crystal stucture of human TOPI-DNA binary complex to develop the temary complex of TOP1-DNA-ligand using FlexiDock The results demonstrated that two compounds with N_(1)-attached halogens intercalated exactly between the -1 and +1 DNA bases, deeply toward the cleavage site and were stabilized by three H-bonds each and an array of hydrophobic interactions with both the enzyme and the DNA. The most potent intbiery activities they showed in the test agree well with the proper docking results. Six compounds which did not intenalate and formed no H-bond showed no or very low inhibitory activities. Seven compounds that intercalated between the bases with one to four H-bonds but not deeply enough toward the cleavage site showed intermediate activities. The structure-activity relationship was consistent with the experimental data The ternary complex presented potential binding mode of each compound and thus could provide a rational basis far novel inhibitor design to develop potent anticancer drugs targeting TOP1 enz[f]indole-4,9-dione 유도체와 topoisomerase I(TOP1)-DNA 복합체의 결합형태를 규명하기 위해 세포독성과 TOP1저해작용이 검사된 15개의 유도체와 camptothecin을 TOP1-DAN복합체의 X-선 구조에 FlexiDock을 사용하여 docking하였다, 그결과 N_(1)에 할고겐 이 결합된 두화합물은 -1/+1 염기 사이에 끼어들어 깊숙이 결합되었고 각각 3개의 수고결합과 다수의 소수성 상호작용으로 안정화되었다. 활성검사에서 가장 강한 작용이 나타나 고유한 docking결과와 잘 부합되었다. 염기사이에 끼어들지 않고 수소결합도 형성하지 않은 6개의 화합물에서는 활성이 거의 나타나지 않았다. 한개 내지 4개의 수소결합을 형성하면서 염기 사이에 끼어들었으나 TOP1에 의해 잘라지는 위치에 깊게 결합하지 못한 7개의 화합물은 중간 정도의 활성을 나타내어 구조 활성 관계가 실험 치와 잘 일치 하였다, 이 결과는 TOP1을 목표로 하는 새로운 항암제의 구조를 고안하는데 합리적인 근거를 제공할 것이다.

        과학 영재의 세포 설명에 나타난 글쓰기 특성 분석

        The purpose of this study was to analyse characteristics of explanatory writing of scientifically gifted students who participated in gifted educational programs. Considering aspect of content of their explanations about cell, many of them explained the common characteristics of animal and plant cells, but a few of them did cellular characteristics of one kind of animal and plant. Some gifted students regarded cell membrane function as that of cell wall, and had a misconception that the cell was the smallest unit to consist human body. In terms of the structure of explanation, most of them didn't know the structural characteristics of explanatory writing. Finally, more than 50% of them had written using various ways to explain cell such as classifying, comparing, contrasting and exemplifying. Especially, all biologically gifted students had creatively explained drawing a picture. It was findings that the explanatory writing could be used as the instrument to evaluate knowledges of gifted students and suggested the elements of writing to teach scientific explanatory writing. 본 연구의 목적은 중학교 과학 영재 프로그램에 참여하는 학생들의 설명하는 글쓰기에 나타난 특성을 분석하는 것이다. 중학교 과학 영재들의 세포에 대한 설명을 분석한 결과, 내용적 측면에서 다수의 학생들이 동물 세포와 식물 세포의 공통적인 특징과 구별되는 특징을 설명하고 있었다. 그러나, 일부 과학 영재 학생은 동물 세포와 식물 세포 중 한 가지 세포의 특성만을 설명하거나, 세포막과 세포벽의 기능을 같게 보거나, 세포는 우리 몸을 이루고 있는 가장 작은 단위라는 등 세포에 대한 오개념을 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 구조적 측면에서는 대부분의 과학 영재 학생들이 설명문의 체재를 명확히 알지 못한 채 설명하는 글쓰기를 완성하였다. 마지막으로 표현 방법을 분석한 결과, 50% 이상의 학생들이 분류, 비교, 대조, 예시 등의 다양한 방법을 이용하여 설명하는 글쓰기를 작성한 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 모든 영재 학생들이 그림을 이용한 설명 방법을 사용하였는데, 기존의 연구 결과에서 나타나지 않은 독창적인 것임을 알 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 과학 영재 학생들의 지식 평가 도구로 설명하는 글쓰기가 활용될 수 있다는 가능성을 제안할 뿐만 아니라, 설명하는 글쓰기를 지도할 때 활용할 수 있는 글쓰기 요소에 대한 교육적 시사점을 제공한다.
