        The author conducted the field experiments of frost heave as to evaluate reducing method of frost heave amount using granulated tire-soil mixture. By mixing tested soil with granulated tire, a frost heave decreased highly. From the results of the field experiment, it was confirmed that granulated tire was excellent material in controlling the total heave amount. The following conclusions can be made from the results of the research: 1) The frost heave amount significantly decreased with the addition of granulated rubber powder. The restraint effect of frost heave is thought to be caused by the increase of a drain property and decrease of a specific surface area. 2) The frost front of the mixed section penetrated deeper than that of the non-mixed section. Such a result may express that the volumetric water content decreased by granulated rubber-soil mixture has an effect on latent heat of mixed site caused by ice segregation. 3) Rubber powders had nothing to do with the insulation effect if rubber powders used as the mixed condition with a soil.

      • 서멀프루브법에 의한 동결로의 열전도율 측정에 관한 연구

        Present author conducted the experimental studies to estimate the thermal conductivity near the melting point under the conditions of long time measurement and low temperature increment. The temperature increment pattern of the probe obtained near the melting point was in the form of `S' letter having the inflection point. When the data prior to the inflection point was used, the thermal conductivity near the melting point increased with the temperature increment. But, if the data after the inflection point was used, the thermal conductivity decreased with the temperature increment. It was found from the experiments that the predicted thermal conductivity was larger than the actual thermal conductivity. A linear relationship was obtained between the thermal conductivity and the volumetric water content. It was believed that the linear relationship might be due to the displacement of air or unfrozen water by the ice in the voids of the sample. The thermal conductivity decreased linearly with the temperature increment at the same volumetric water content. This tendency might be explained by the diminution of ice content in the sample

      • 동결과정에 따른 흙속의 용질이동에 관한 실험적 연구

        Frost heave experiments were performed for two different types of materials with saline pore water. The used materials were weathered soil and glass beads. Significant salt redistribution occurred during the upward freezing of saline glass beads from 0.5 cm/day to 2 cm/day. However, water content did not change during the experiment. On the contrary significant water redistribution occurred from the unfrozen zone to frozen zone during the upward freezing of saline weathered soil independently of freezing rates. However, salt contents both in the frozen and in the unfrozen zone did not change during the experiment. Also the salt redistribution was observed just beneath the ice lens at an extremely low freezing rate for weathered soil.

        In this study, an easy production method of CV (Compacted/vermicular) graphite cast iron with small addition of a Ni which is known as the element of the graphitization was investigated. And so, the effects of fading (holding) time and of Ni addition after the treatments with spheroidizer (Fe-Si-Mg-Ca-Al-Ti-Ce) were also investigated. The results obtained are as follows. 1. According as Ni contents in CV molten cast iron increase, the graphite No. and CV radio were increased. And so, graphite form and the distribution of the graphite were homogenized. 2. When the addition treated with Ni, the tensile strength were increased, and the effect of fading time were decreased.

        지방족 탄화수소의 할로겐 유도체 수용액의 광촉매-광분해

        The rates of photodegradation, reactivities, and mechanisms of photooxidation for the aqueous solution containing with halogen derivatives of aliphatic hydrocarbons have been discussed with respect to the kinds of photocatalysts, concentration of photocatalytic suspensions, strength of radiant power , time of illumination, changes of pH of substrate solution, wavelength of radiation, and pressure of oxygen gas saturated in the solution. These aqueous solutions suspended with 0.5 gL^-1 TiO_2 powder have been photodecomposed in the range of 100 and 93.8% per 1 hour if it is illuminated with wavelength (λ≥ 300nm) produced from Xe-lamp(450W). The photocatalytic abilities have been increased in the order of Fe_2O_3 < CdS < CeO_2 < Y_O2_3 < TiO_2, and rates of photodegradation for the solution have maximum values in the condition of pH 6∼8 and 3 psi-O_2 gL^-1. These rates for the photooxidation per 1 hour were dependent on the size of molecular weight and chemical bonding for organic halogen compounds and the rates of photodegradation were increased in the order of C_2H_5Br < CH_2Br_2 < C_5H_11Cl C_2H_4Cl_2 < trans-C_2H_2Cl_2 < cis-C_2H_2Cl_2 The t_1/2 and t_99% for these solutions were 5∼21 and 40∼90 minutes, respectively, and these values were coincided with initial reaction kinetics(r_0). It was found that reaction of photodegradation has the pseudo first-order kinetics controlled by the amount of h^+_VB diffused from a surface of photocatalysts.

        Propofol 지속정주를 이용한 상부소화관 내시경

        Background/Aims: Propofol is a short-acting intravenous sedative-hypnotic agent that can be used as a hypnotics for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of propofol as a hypnotic agent for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Methods: From June to October 1998, twenty eight patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were to receive propofol. Vital signs and peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) were monitored by pulse oximetry during continuous infusion of propofol. Propofol (1% solution) was initially infused by 26.7 mg/kg/hr until loss of eyelash reflex and then titrated to 6∼10 mg/kg/hr according to the patient's response and vital sign. Propofol infusion was discontinued while the endoscopic fiber was removed. Recovery time was defined from discontinuation of infusion to positive Romberg test. Evaluation was made from the endoscopists' assessment, patients' satisfaction, patients' recall of the procedure, and consciousness of the patients. esults: It was discovered that systolic, diastolic pressure and heart rate were significantly decreased, compared to control group. But clinically significant changes were not found. Apnea did not exist. And the respiration rate was significantly increased during propofol infusion. Peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) was transiently decreased during endoscopy. 14 patients (50%) complained of transient dizziness. Pain and redness over the infusion site was not found. The mean total dose of propofol was 133.6 mg. The mean infusion time of propofol was 6.2 minutes. Mean response and recovery time was 3.7±2.1, 20.9± 5.4 minutes. Endoscopists' assessment and patients' comfort for endoscopy were satisfactory. When we asked 28 patients about willingness to undergo the same procedure in the future, 27 patients (96.4%) agreed. Degree of amnesia after examination revealed total amnesia in 27 patients (96.4%), partial amnesia in 1 patients (3.6%), and recall was not. Conclusions: Propofol has beneficial effects as hypnotic for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy without significant alteration in cardiopulmonary parameters. Patients' and endoscopists' assessment is good. This suggest that propofol may be used more frequently as a kind of premedication, especially in the cases of repeated endoscopy.

        Helicobacter pylori 감염이 있는 환자의 배우자에서의 감염빈도와 임상적 의의

        Background/Aims; The transmission mode of Helicobaeter pylori infection has not been definded. We investigated the seroprevalence of H. pylori infection in spouses of infected patients to clarify the transmission mode of H. pylori infection, Methods: Sera were collected from 26 spouses of infected patients and examined for H. pylori infection by serology. We compared the antibody responses to H. pylori proteins (CagA, VacA and urease subunits) in 5 couples. Results: H. pylori infection was observed in 20 out of 26 spouses (77%). The infection rate was increased from 50% in less than 10 years of cohabitation to 100% in more than 31 years of cohabitation. The gastroscopic exarnination for the infected patients revealed chronic gastritis in 6, gastric ulcer in 9, duodenal ulcer in 8, concurrent gastric and duodenal ulcer in 2, and gastric cancer in 1. In spouses, the gastroscopy showed chronic gastritis in 10 and pyloric canal ulcer with H. pylori infection in 1. The couple with pyloric canal ulcer showed similar antibody responses to CagA, VacA and urease subunits. Conclusions: This study suggested that H. pylori might be transmitted via oral to oral route. Further study about the risk of gastroduodenal lesion in spouses is needed.
