        1. Today, the term of FICTION-"SOSUL" is used as a name representing "fictitious story" without any doubt. But we wonder that which above mentioned could be accepted undoubtedly. So this inquiry is attempted to investigate historical process of the term and to solve the question about naming. 2. This term originally began to use in China and was adopted likewise in Korea. In the beginnig, it was a name degignating "back fence talk-(superficial story)". AS time went on, that was restricted as a term indicating "fictious story" later. In other words, "fictitious story" was also perceived as "superficial story". 3. In the West, "Romance" in the medievaltimes could not be included in the regular literature. It was not until medieval times that it came to involved in the regular literature. 4. "SOSUL" belonged properly to the lower culture not the ruling one. therefore the name degignated "superficial story" came to fix as a one indicating "fictitious story". Finally, what a man calls "SOSUL" is a developed genre with the culturally deprived classes.

      • 경골 골수정 고정술후 교합나사의 파단

        목 적 : 경골 골절에서 골수정 고정술후 발생하는 교합나사 파단의 빈도와 발생 원인을 밝히고자한다. 대상 및 방법 : 1995년 3월부터 2000년 10월까지 골수정으로 치료하였던 경골 간부골절 82예중 내고정물 파단이 발생하거나 골유합이 이루질 때까지 추시 가능하였던 75예를 대상으로 하였다. 내고정물 파단 빈도와 위치, 골절의 양상, 술후 골절부 신연 및 골유합 이상 여부를 조사하였다. 결 과 : 교합나사 파단은 7예였고 (9.3%), 근위부 두 번째 나사의 파단이 가장 흔하였다. 교합나사으 ㅣ파단은 AO분류 B형과 C형 골절, 술후 골절부가 신연된 경우, 개발성골절, 자연유합 및 불유합의 경우 발생하였다. 결 론 : 교합나사 파단의 주된 요인은 골절부의 골과 골 접촉이 불안정하기 때문이며, 개방성 골절, 지연유합 및 불유합도 교합나사 파단의 위험인자라고 생각한다. 교합나사 파단을 예방하기 위해서는 수술시 골절부 신연을 피해야하며 골절부 골접촉이 불안정한 경우 완전 체중부하를 골유합시까지 제한하여야할 것으로 생각한다. Purpose : The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence and the causes of crew breakage in tibia nailing. Materials and Methods : Between 1995 and 2000, eighty-two tibial diaphyseal fracture were treated with interlocking nails. The loss of follow-up was 7 cases. We retrospectively reviewed seventy-five cases. We investigated the rate and location of metal failure and evaluated the fracture pattern, the presence of distraction after nailing and union abnormality. Results : Screw breakage was identified in seven cases (9.3%) and most frequently occurred on the second proximal locking screw. Screw breakage occurred in AO type B or C type fractures, fracture site distraction after nailing, open fracture, delayed union and nonunion. Conclusion : The main cause of screw breakage is unstable bone to bone contact on the fracture site caused by comminution of distraction. The open fracture, delayed union, and nonunion also contributing factors for screw breakage. For preventing screw breakage, it is necessary to avoid fracture site distraction and delay full weight bearing in cases having unstable fracture site contact.

        We investigated the effect of aqueous extract of Ammomum xanthioides(AXAE) on immediate hypersensitivity. AXAE inhibited systemic anaphylaxis induced by compound 48/80 in mice. AXAE inhibited serum histamine levels induced by compound 48/80 in mice. Moreover, AXAE dose-dependently inhibited histamine release in peritoneal mast cells activated by compound 48/80. These results indicate that the AXAE may be benificial in the regulation of immediate type allergic reaction.

        A New Bright White Gladiolus, "White Lace" with Multi-flowering

        A new bright white gladiolus “White Lace” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2004. A cross was made between late flowering white cultivar “White Goddess” and vigorous white cultivar “Amsterdam”. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2004 after investigation of the characteristics for 5 years from 2000 to 2004. “White Lace” has a bright white color and multi-flowering florets more than 20 florets with good simultaneous flowering more than 8 florets. This cultivar is middle flowering without stem bending. It has good production of cormlets, vigorous growth and resistant to virus, Fusarium and Thrips. The width of “White Lace” flower is 11.5 cm. The plant height is 137cm. Days to flowering of “White Lace” is average 93days in summer season.

        A New White Gladiolus, "Wind Ensemble" with Pale Greenish Core

        A new white multi-flowering gladiolus with pale greenish core “Wind Ensemble” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2003. A cross was made between white multi-flowering cultivar “White Nova”, which was released at the NHRI in 2002 and white line “95-24 (True Love x Madame Valdiek)”. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2003 after investigation of the characteristics for 4 years from 2000 to 2003. “Wind Ensemble” has multiple middle sized florets. This cultivar is middle flowering without stem bending. It has good production of cormlets, vigorous growth and resistant to virus, Fusarium and thrips. The width of “Wind Ensemble” flower is 11.2 cm. The plant height is 130 cm. Days to flowering of “Wind Ensemble” is average 100days in summer season.

        A New Bright Scarlet Gladiolus, "Adlib Scarlet" As a Cut flower

        A new bright scarlet gladiolus “Adlib Scarlet” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2003. A cross was made between early flowering salmon line “94-18 (AriannexHongkwang)” and early flowering salmon cultivar “Adlib Salmon”, which was released at the NHRI in 2000. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2003 after investigation of the characteristics for 4 years from 2000 to 2003. “Adlib Scarlet” has a multiple middle sized bright scarlet florets with good simultaneous flowering. This cultivar is early flowering and moderately resistant against virus and neck rot. It has vigorous growth without stem bending. The width of “Adlib Scarlet” flower is 10.8 cm. The plant height is 132 cm. Days to flowering of “Adlib Scarlet” is average 92days in summer season.

        A New Bright Pink Gladiolus, "May Queen" with White Core

        A new bright pink gladiolus “May Queen” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2004. A cross was made between early flowering pink cultivar “Calista” and early flowering white cultivar “White Friendship”. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2004 after investigation of the characteristics for 5 years from 2000 to 2004. “May Queen” has a bright pink color with white core as a cut flower. This cultivar is early flowering without stem bending. It has good production of cormels and resistant to Fusarium and Thrips. The width of “May Queen” flower is 11.0 cm. The plant height is 121 cm. Days to flowering of “May Queen” is average 92days in summer season.

        Efficacy Assessment of Different Screening Methods for Detecting Resistance against Erwinia carotovora in Calla Lily

        Bacterial soft rot is one of the major disease of Zantedeschia species (Calla lily) caused by Erwinia carotovora. The objectives of this study were i) to screen the most efficient method to determine resistance level against E. carotovora and ii) to evaluate the genetic variability in Zantedeschia genotypes by inoculation of Ecc NHRI-3 and PD 1784 isolates. Four screening tests i.e. leaf disk, petiole, tuber and tuber slice tests were used to determine the resistance level in calla lily. Eleven genotypes from section Zantedeschia were used for variation studies against E. carotovora by using the leaf disk test. It was observed that all genotypes showed variation in resistance level and could be categorized in 3 groups on the basis of their resistance level. Four of the genotypes were resistant against this pathogen whereas, 6 genotypes were moderately resistant and only one genotype was found susceptible. Within section Aestivae, ‘Galaxy’, ‘Florex Gold’, ‘Treasure’ and ‘Mango’ were found very susceptible cultivars, whereas ‘Coral Sunset’, ‘Hazel Marie’ and ‘Neroli’ were less susceptible genotypes. Most of the cultivars from section Aestivae were susceptible to bacterial soft rot and the cultivar ‘Florex Gold’ was identified as susceptible control. It is suggested to perform pre-screening through leaf disk method which proved to a non-destructive test. The pre-screening evaluation can discriminate susceptible cultivar and resistant cultivar. Tuber slice test is more useful in screening subsequent genotypes at a later growth stage in any breeding program.
