Subharmonic vibration of order 1/2 of a simply supported uniform beam subjected to initial tention is studied for a concentrated lateral harmonic excitation force. Theoretical analysis is carried out by assumming the deflection as a superposition of linear eigenfunctions. Harmonic balance method is used for the steady state solution. The steady state solutions are obtained by using Newton-Raphson method. Experiments are carried out and show good agreement with the theoretical results.

In this study, the vibration of a harmonically excited cantilever beam with motion-limiting stops at the free end is studied. The responses of the beam are calculated by numerical analysis with Galerkin's mode summation method. The modal displacement and velocity of the beam are obtained for various forcing amplitudes and clearances of the stops. The resuluts of the numerical analysis are compared with the results of the experiments. The number of the rebounds is increased with (i) the increase of the magnitude of the force and (ii) the decrease of the clearance of the stops. And the effects of the higher modes become significant as the magnitude of the farce is increased and the clearance of the stops is decreased.

In order to improve the performance of the suspension system for mass transport vehicle with prescribed dynamic behavior, a synthesis procedure of eliminating "Hunting" was studied to yield resonant velocities outside the range of most frequent operation. Effect of changing in the spring stiffnesses on the resonant velocities of the system was considered. The effects of damping on the suspension system was analyzed through the Root Locus Analysis. And Root Contours Method was used to obtain the optimal damping values. Hunting is controlled by using a proper damping into the secondary suspension.

This paper deals with the vibration and noise characteristics of three different kinds of pipe structures (PVC pipe, cast-iron pipe and newly developed pp pipe). In order to measure the structure born noise, an impact force generated by dropping a small ball was applied to three different kinds of pipes. It was confirmed that the structure born noise could be reduced by employing a high damping material. Also, transmission loss of a pipe was investigated for various frequency ranges by using a speaker as a sound source.

The paper deals with stress and deflection analyses for newly developed PP-pipe structures of LG-Caltex company. In order to calculate the values of stress and deflection, the elements of pipes and its hanger supports are discretized. Through the numerical simulations using commercial FEM code, stresses and deflections of pipes with two or more hanger supports are obtained, and the stability of pipes are checked. Finally, optimal numbers of hanger supports satisfying allowable bending stress is proposed.

Recent clinical evidence indicates that the non-eosinophilic subtype of severe asthma is characterized by fixed airway obstruction, which may be related to emphysema. Transgenic studies have demonstrated that high levels of IFN-${\gamma}$ in the airways induce emphysema. Fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2), which is the downstream mediator of TGF-${\beta}$, is important in wound healing. We investigated the role of FGF2 in IFN-${\gamma}$-induced emphysema and the therapeutic effects of recombinant FGF2 in the prevention of emphysema in a severe non-eosinophilic asthma model. To evaluate the role of FGF2 in IFN-${\gamma}$-induced emphysema, lung targeted IFN-${\gamma}$ transgenic mice were cross-bred with FGF2-deficient mice. A severe non-eosinophilic asthma model was generated by airway application of LPS-containing allergens twice a week for 4 weeks. To evaluate protective effects of FGF2, recombinant FGF2 ($10{\mu}g$) was injected subcutaneously during allergen challenge in the severe asthma model. We found that non-eosinophilic inflammation and emphysema induced by transgenic overexpression of IFN-${\gamma}$ in the airways were aggravated by the absence of FGF2. Airway challenge with LPS-containing allergens induced more inflammation in mice sensitized with LPS-containing allergens compared to challenge with allergens alone. In addition, LPS-induced lung inflammation and emphysema depended on IFN-${\gamma}$ but not on IL-13. Interestingly, emphysema in the severe asthma model was significantly inhibited by treatment with recombinant FGF2 during allergen challenge, whereas lung inflammation was unaffected. Therefore, our present data suggest that FGF2 may help protect against IFN-${\gamma}$-induced emphysema, and that recombinant FGF2 may help lessen the severity of emphysema.
Functional Architecture for NGN-Based Personalized IPTV Services

<P>IPTV is one of the most highly visible services to emerge as part of the development of next generation network (NGN). IPTV services over manageable broadband link from a provider will be one of the ultimate goals of the broadband revolution using NGN. In this paper, we analyze IPTV architecture developed by ITU-T and provide functional architecture for NGN-based IPTV services according to functional mapping between IPTV and NGN. For this, we provide the detailed functional architecture and relevant operations with other functional blocks and present the harmonized architecture between IPTV and NGN for NGN-based IPTV services with the alignment with existing NGN architecture. As challenging architectural issues, we also introduce personalized IPTV services based on Web-based open platform in NGN environment and illustrate functional architecture and service examples for Web-based personalized IPTV services.</P>
