        An experimental study on low-velocity nonlinear flow in vuggy carbonate reservoirs

        Vuggy carbonate reservoirs in the Middle East, which have characteristics such as high porosity, low permeability, and few fractures, are significantly different from fractured-vuggy carbonate reservoirs. In this study, single-phase flow experiments and core mercury injection experiments were conducted to analyze the pore size distribution and low-velocity nonlinear flow characteristics of vuggy carbonate rocks in Halfaya oilfield. The results show that the relationship between pseudo-threshold pressure gradient and permeability in matrix carbonate rocks is linear. However, vuggy type does not exhibit the same linear relationship. Compared with matrix type, vuggy carbonate rock has a nonlinear flow zone when the pressure gradient is comparatively low and the nonlinear flow characteristics are quite different from those of low-permeability sandstone reservoirs. Because of the multi-polarization of flow channel radius in vuggy carbonate rocks, fluid stepwise starts flowing as the pressure gradient increases. Vuggy carbonate rock has a pseudo-threshold pressure gradient during the low-velocity flow, but the actual threshold pressure gradient does not exist. The concept of whole channel flow pressure gradient is presented in this paper. The results contribute to improve the understanding of low-velocity flow characteristics of vuggy carbonate reservoirs.

        Study on Tensile Strength and Tensile-Shear Coupling Mechanism of Loess around Lanzhou and Yanan City in China by Unconfined Penetration Test

        Tensile strength is an important but seldom noticed parameter that reveals the constitutive relations of soil. For the loess, the tensile strength can be used to explain earthwork-induced damages such as tension cracks in cut slopes and corresponding slope failures, or natural disasters such as ground fissures. The present study chose an indirect method, particularly the unconfined penetration (UP) test, to measure the tensile strength of remolded loess and undisturbed Q2 and Q3 loess obtained from different districts in China. The results indicated that the tensile strength of the undisturbed loess was primary determined by the void ratio. In addition, multiple correlations were observed between the void ratio and the degree of saturation. The tensile linear stiffness exhibited an exponential increase following an increase in the tensile strength. The mechanism of the tensile-shear coupling strength criterion was proposed. Linear relations between the mechanical parameters were deduced under the tensile-shear coupling condition and were verified by the remolded and undisturbed loess, respectively. Both the unconfined compressive strength and cohesion decreased under the tensile-shear coupling condition. Comparisons with other strength models validated the suitability of the tensile-shear coupling strength criterion for the loess. This study aims to present a more comprehensive understanding on the tensile strength of loess and offer parameter guidance for stability calculations in practical engineering.

        This study examines environmental factors and adoption of e-Business in China¡'s international trading companies. This paper, which represents a pioneer study of e-business in a China’s industry setting, provides valuable managerial guidance for e-business in China and contributes to the literature with an empirical investigation of e-business in China. A study of 307 Chinese international trading companies resulted in the following conclusions: Firstly, China’s international trading companies are facing increased pressure to implement e-Business. Secondly, high-level e-business implementations remain low in China.

        Influence of thermal treatment on the performance of copper phthalocyanine thin-film transistors

        Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with bottom-gate and bottom-contact configuration based on copper phthalocyanines (CuPc) as active layer were fabricated. The performance of CuPc OTFTs was studied before and after thermal treatment on CuPc layer. The values of the threshold voltage before and after thermal treatment are -6.3 and -5.7 V, respectively. The field-effect mobility values in saturation regime of CuPc thin-film transistors before and after thermal treatment are 0.014 ㎠/Vs and 0.0068 ㎠/Vs,respectively. The experimental results indicate that there is a heavy decay on the mobility of CuPc based OTFTs mostly due to the crystalline morphology change induced by the thermal treatment, and absolute value of the threshold voltage after thermal treatment decreases with the decrease of the CuPc film thickness and the roughness.

        ULTRAFINE AU NANODOTS ON GRAPHENE OXIDE FOR CATALYTIC REDUCTION OF 4-NITROPHENOL

        Graphene oxide nanosheet is an ideal platform to capture nanoparticles for highly efficient catalysis, electrochemical sensing and biosensing. In this work, we have described a simple synthesis method for preparation graphene oxide–Au nanohybrid. Au nanodots with an average size of 1.6 nm uniformly dispersed on the surface of graphene oxide. The well-defined nanostructure has been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The nanohybrid also exhibits enhanced catalytic activity toward the reduction of 4-nitrophenol by NaBH4. Comparing with pure Au nanodots and graphene oxide, graphene oxide–Au nanohybrid shows the highest catalytic activity. This approach not only suggests a wide potential application of graphene oxide nanosheet as a host material for supporting a variety of nanoparticles, but also provides a new approach for the fabrication of graphene-based nanohybrids with multiple physical and chemical properties.

        Comparison of image masking methods for pump impeller blade region PIV experiments

        Due to the blade reflection effect when applying the PIV technology to the internal flow field measurement of rotating machinery, the blade area requires special treatment. In this paper, zero-value, particle image, random number, and mean-value masking methods are compared and analyzed based on particle images from the PIV challenge and rotating impeller. The peak significance and coordinates deviations are used as the masking effect evaluation criteria. The results indicate that an increase in the interrogation window masking area proportion causes a weakening of the PIV calculation particle cluster displacement peak value. The peak position is shifted, which leads to the wrong velocity vector. The masking area proportion should not be higher than 0.7, 0.5, 0.19, and 0.22 for mean-value, random number, zero-value, and particle image masking methods, respectively. The results show that flow field calculation results near the blade boundary are more accurate for mean-value masking.
