The Performance Analysis of Container Terminals in Vietnam using DEA-Malmquist

NGUYEN, Dai Duong,Park, Gyei-Kark,Choi, Kyoung-Hoon Korean Institute of Navigation and Port Research 2019 한국항해항만학회지 Vol.43 No.2

Seaports play a vital role in the economic development of countries, especially for countries having long coastlines such as Vietnam Seaport industry in Vietnam has witnessed an impressive development in recent years. The national cargo throughput in the period 2013-2017 achieved a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.8%/year, higher than that of the world (5.1%). However, the differences in planning policies and infrastructure systems has led to the differences in port performance efficiency of regional ports. Therefore, it is necessary to have a general and accurate view of the picture of Vietnam's seaport. The objective of this study was to analyze the relative efficiencies of 26 Vietnam container terminals using traditional output-oriented CCR and BCC DEA model. Malmquist P roductivity Index (MP I) was also applied to evaluate changes in container terminals productivity over time.

        Dai Duong NGUYEN,Gyei-Kark Park,Kyoung-Hoon Cho 한국항해항만학회 2018 한국항해항만학회지 Vol.42 No.2

Container port is one of the most vital link of the transportation chain that plays an important role in trading with other countries. Having a proper understanding of port operations could change the role of the port from a transportation node to an efficient point in a transportation chain. Development of transportation chains, logistics and progress of these networks have enhanced the sustainable condition and level of transportation. Therefore, evaluating the competitiveness of ports is obligatory for port users to make a decision in investment or exploitation. This paper introduces the use of Fuzzy C-means and TOPSIS for competitiveness comparison among a sample of container terminals in Korea and China and determine how to improve Korean port competitiveness and particularly in Busan port.

Facile synthesis of multifunctional Ag/Fe3O4-CS nanocomposites for antibacterial and hyperthermic applications

        Ngoan Thi Nguyen,Dai Lam Tran,Duc Cuong Nguyen,Thai Loc Nguyen,Thi Cham Ba,Binh Hai Nguyen,Thi Duong Ba,Nam Hong Pham,Dzung Tuan Nguyen,Thai Hoa Tran,Gia Dien Pham 한국물리학회 2015 Current Applied Physics Vol.15 No.11

Nanocomposites containing two or more functional constituents are attractive candidates for advanced nanomaterials. In this study, multifunctional Ag/Fe3O4-CS nanocomposites were successfully prepared, using chitosan as a stabilizing and cross-linking agent. The as-synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), UVevisible spectrophotometer (UVeVis) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results demonstrated that Ag/Fe3O4-CS composite nanoparticles (NPs) were composed of parent components, Fe3O4 and Ag NPs, which were uniformly dispersed in the chitosan matrix. The hybrid NPs exhibited strong antibacterial property against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. With high magnetization value (67 emu/g), the synthesized Ag/Fe3O4-CS composite can be easily separated or recycled in potential biomedical applications. Furthermore, the results showed that the multicomponent hybrid nanostructures appeared to be the promising material for local hyperthermia, which can be used as thermoseeds for localized hyperthermia treatment of cancers.

      • Large-Area, Conductive and Flexible Reduced Graphene Oxide (RGO) Membrane Fabricated by Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD)

        Wang, Mei,Duong, Le Dai,Oh, Joon-Suk,Mai, Nguyen Thi,Kim, Sanghoon,Hong, Seungchul,Hwang, Taeseon,Lee, Youngkwan,Nam, Jae-Do American Chemical Society 2014 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.6 No.3

<P>A large-area, conductive, and flexible membrane made from the stabilized aqueous solution of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) is successfully fabricated using an electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method. A low-voltage operation of EPD (∼3 volts) allows a robust consolidation of RGO layers desirably aligned in the in-plane direction through the cohesive electrophoretic squeezing force near the current collector. Transferring the deposited RGO layers to arbitrary substrates or achieving as a free-standing form, two methods of “chemical etching” and “electrochemical etching” are developed to detach the RGO layers from the EPD current collector without damaging the deposited RGO. Further reducing the free-standing RGO membrane by thermal annealing up to 1000 °C, a graphite-like architecture is restored (<I>d</I>-spacing at 3.42 Å with C/O ratio at 16.66) and the electrical conductivity increases as high as 5.51 × 105 S/m. The tightly-consolidated and securely-detached RGO membrane allows the free-standing and flexible features and highly conductive characteristics, which are further developed during thermal treatment. Because of the facile scale-up nature of the EPD process and RGO solution, the developed methodology has a considerable potential to be applied to various energy storage devices, flexible conductive coatings, and other electrochemical systems.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2014/aamick.2014.6.issue-3/am404719u/production/images/medium/am-2013-04719u_0007.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/am404719u'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

A Novel Chitosan-Gossypol Based Nanocarrier for Anticancer Curcumin Drug Delivery

( Ngoan Thi Nguyen ),( Lam Dai Tran ),( Duong Quang Le ),( Dien Gia Pham ),( Phuc Xuan Nguyen ),( Jun Seo Park ),( Jae Kweon Park ) 한국키틴키토산학회 2012 한국키틴키토산학회지 Vol.17 No.2

Gossypol chitosan (GPCS) nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized at the size of 20-40 nm through amidation process to forming base shift of polymer chains of chitosan using gossypol as a crosslinking agent. Their structure was confirmed by Fourier Transformed Infra Red (FT-IR) spectra. Morphology, stability, loading and releasing efficiency of GPCS and Cur/GPCS (Cur stands for curcumin) were thoroughly investigated by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), FT-IR, Ultra Violet-Visible spectrophotometry (UV-Vis) and High Resolve Photoluminescence System (HRPLS). The obtained nanocarrier exhibited an excellent solubility for Cur anticancer drug as well as high stability for in vitro studies. An intensive fluorescence, allowing drug monitor/delivery, was achieved. Drug release profile was also studied. GPCS, therefore, could be considered to be a potential drug carrier for therapeutic treatment.

Impacts of Foreign Direct Investment on Human Capital in ASEAN

Hoi Van NGUYEN,Thuy Thi Thu NGUYEN,Tha Hien TO,Duong Quy DANG,Trang Thi Dai Luong 한국유통과학회 2020 유통과학연구 Vol.18 No.9

Purpose: Research and development of human capital in countries bring sustainable development to the nations. Especially for developing countries, the attraction of foreign direct investment not only brings economic growth to the country but also contributes to improving human capital. This study aims to assess the impact of foreign direct investment on human capital in ASEAN countries. Research design, data and methodology: With data collected from ASEAN countries from 1990 to 2019, panel data analysis is performed with revised model types (the Pooled OLS, Fixed effect model, Random effect model and regression with Driscoll-Kraay standard errors). Result: The results of the regression analysis show that FDI has a positive impact on human capital. At the same time, the study also found that public investment in education also positively affects human capital; the life expectancy factor does not affect human capital. Conclusions: With this research result, the authors also proposed a number of solutions to improve human capital by attracting FDI and improving the efficiency of investment for the education of ASEAN countries. Besides, public expenditure on education also plays an important role in raising human capital. Therefore, investment in education should be promoted further in the future.

      • All-Solid-State Reduced Graphene Oxide Supercapacitor with Large Volumetric Capacitance and Ultralong Stability Prepared by Electrophoretic Deposition Method

        Wang, Mei,Duong, Le Dai,Mai, Nguyen Thi,Kim, Sanghoon,Kim, Youngjun,Seo, Heewon,Kim, Ye Chan,Jang, Woojin,Lee, Youngkwan,Suhr, Jonghwan,Nam, Jae-Do American Chemical Society 2015 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.7 No.2

<P>Portable energy storage devices have gained special attention due to the growing demand for portable electronics. Herein, an all-solid-state supercapacitor is successfully fabricated based on a poly(vinyl alcohol)-H3PO4 (PVA–H3PO4) polymer electrolyte and a reduced graphene oxide (RGO) membrane electrode prepared by electrophoretic deposition (EPD). The RGO electrode fabricated by EPD contains an in-plane layer-by-layer alignment and a moderate porosity that accommodate the electrolyte ions. The all-solid-state RGO supercapacitor is thoroughly tested to give high specific volumetric capacitance (108 F cm–3) and excellent energy and power densities (7.5 Wh cm–3 and 2.9 W cm–3, respectively). In addition, the all-solid-state RGO supercapacitor exhibits an ultralong lifetime for as long as 180 days (335 000 cycles), which is an ultrahigh cycling capability for a solid-state supercapacitor. The RGO is also tested for being used as a transparent supercapacitor electrode demonstrating its possible use in various transparent optoelectronic devices. Due to the facile scale-up capability of the EPD process and RGO dispersion, the developed all-solid-state supercapacitor is highly applicable to large-area portable energy storage devices.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2015/aamick.2015.7.issue-2/am507656q/production/images/medium/am-2014-07656q_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/am507656q'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
