The Effect of Family Structure on Female Labor Participation – Empirical Analysis based on the 2011 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study

Chunyu Yang, Hongqiao Fu and Ling Li 한국사회복지학회 2016 Asian Social Work and Policy Review Vol.10 No.1

Using 2011 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study baseline data, this paper examines the effects of family structure on labor force participation. In consideration of the possible endogeneity provoked by family structure, we constructed regression models with instrument variables. Intergenerational co-residence significantly decreases women’s labor force participation by 14%, while it has no effect on men’s labor supply. One potential reason for this result is residential circumstance. As it is custom to live with elderly parents in multi-generation families in China, adult women often share the burden of all housework and are responsible for elderly care; thus, cohabiting with parents seems to have negative effects on female labor participation. On the contrary, Chinese culture dictates that men do not spend as much time as women on housework, thus, the probability of working in the labor market is not influenced by residential circumstance. If women were freed from housework responsibilities, the implication is that their participation in the labor force would increase

Robustness Analysis of Descriptor Systems with Parameter Uncertainties

        Chunyu Yang,Qing-Ling Zhang,Fuzhen Zhang,Zheng Zhou 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2010 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.8 No.2

This paper investigates the problem of robustness analysis for descriptor systems with parameter uncertainties in both the derivative and state matrices. Using a parameter dependent Lyapunov function, we derive a linear matrix inequality (LMI) based sufficient condition for the admissibility of the system. Unlike the existing results, our criterion has no restriction on the rank of the derivative matrix. Further, we use the obtained method to study interval descriptor systems and multi-parameter singular perturbed systems. The proposed approaches overcome some drawbacks of the existing results. Finally, we present two numerical examples to show the effectiveness of the main results.

Involvement of Orai1 in tunicamycin-induced endothelial dysfunction

        Yang, Hui,Xue, Yumei,Kuang, Sujuan,Zhang, Mengzhen,Chen, Jinghui,Liu, Lin,Shan, Zhixin,Lin, Qiuxiong,Li, Xiaohong,Yang, Min,Zhou, Hui,Rao, Fang,Deng, Chunyu The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2019 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.23 No.2

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is mediated by disturbance of $Ca^{2+}$ homeostasis. The store-operated calcium (SOC) channel is the primary $Ca^{2+}$ channel in non-excitable cells, but its participation in agent-induced ER stress is not clear. In this study, the effects of tunicamycin on $Ca^{2+}$ influx in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were observed with the fluorescent probe Fluo-4 AM. The effect of tunicamycin on the expression of the unfolded protein response (UPR)-related proteins BiP and CHOP was assayed by western blotting with or without inhibition of Orai1. Tunicamycin induced endothelial dysfunction by activating ER stress. Orai1 expression and the influx of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ in HUVECs were both upregulated during ER stress. The SOC channel inhibitor SKF96365 reversed tunicamycin-induced endothelial cell dysfunction by inhibiting ER stress. Regulation of tunicamycin-induced ER stress by Orai1 indicates that modification of Orai1 activity may have therapeutic value for conditions with ER stress-induced endothelial dysfunction.

Propofol enhanced the cell sensitivity to paclitaxel (PTX) in prostatic cancer (PC) through modulation of HOTAIR

        Xuesong Yang,Jiao Qin,Chunyu Gong,Jing Yang 한국유전학회 2021 Genes & Genomics Vol.43 No.7

Background PTX is widely used in cancer treatments. Objective In this paper, we explored the role and potential molecular mechanism of propofol in regulating PTX sensitivity in PC cells. Methods Prostatic cancer cell line PC3 was treated using diferent concentrations of PTX (10 nM, 50 nM), propofol (150 μM, 300 μM) or transfected with overexpressed HOTAIR plasmid. HOTAIR expression was analyzed by RT-qPCR. Apoptosis of PC3 cells was observed by fow cytometry method while cell viability was evaluated by CCK-8. Moreover, apoptosis-related genes, Bcl-2 and Bax were detected by Western blot methods. E-cadherin, N-cadherin and Vimentin protein concentrations were monitored by ELISA. Results PTX signifcantly increased apoptosis of PC3 cells and reduced cell viability in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, Protein expression of Bcl-2 was obviously inhibited while Bax protein expression level was provoked. Furthermore, E-cadherin protein concentration increased while N-cadherin and Vimentin decreased due to increasing PTX treatments. HOTAIR expression dropped due to PTX treatment while overexpression of HOTAIR induced cell viability, EMT and deterred apoptosis. Propofol ignited the PTX function while upregulation of HOTAIR partially reversed this. Conclusion Propofol enhanced paclitaxel sensitivity in prostatic cancer cells through modulation of HOTAIR in vitro.

Feedback Analysis of Transcutaneous Energy Transmission with a Variable Load Parameter

        Tianliang Yang,Chunyu Zhao,Dayue Chen 한국전자통신연구원 2010 ETRI Journal Vol.32 No.4

The transcutaneous energy transmission system (TETS) composed of a Class-E amplifier may operate at a state away from the optimum power transmission due to the load variation. By introducing the feedback-loop technique, the TETS can keep the optimum state with constant output voltage by adjusting the important design parameters, that is, the duty ratio and frequency of the driving signal and the supply voltage. The relations between these adjusted parameters and the load are investigated. The effectiveness of the feedback technique is validated through a design example with a variable load parameter. The experimental results show that the Class-E amplifier in the feedback loop can keep operating at the optimum state under the condition of up to 50 percent variation of the load value.

A Novel Zero-Voltage-Switching Push-Pull Forward Converter with a Parallel Resonant Network

        Chunwei Cai,Chunyu Shi,Yuxing Guo,Zi Yang,Fangang Meng 전력전자학회 2017 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.17 No.1

A novel zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) push-pull forward converter with a parallel resonant network is presented in this paper. The novel topology can provide a releasing loop for the energy storage in a leakage inductor for the duration of the power switching by the resonant capacitors paralleled with the primary windings of the transformer. Then the transformer leakage inductor is utilized to be resonant with the parallel capacitor, and the ZVS operation is achieved. This converter exhibits many advantages such as lower duty-cycle losses, limited peak voltage across the rectifier diodes and a higher efficiency. Furthermore, the operating principles and key problems of the converter design are analyzed in detail, and the ZVS conditions are derived. A 500W experimental converter prototype has been built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter, and its maximum efficiency reaches 94.8%.

An engineered PD-1-based and MMP-2/9-oriented fusion protein exerts potent antitumor effects against melanoma

        ( Mulan Wei ),( Xujie Liu ),( Chunyu Cao ),( Jianlin Yang ),( Yafeng Lv ),( Jiaojiao Huang ),( Yanlin Wang ),( Ye Qin ) 생화학분자생물학회(구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2018 BMB Reports Vol.51 No.11

Recent studies showed that the PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint blockade is a dramatic therapy for melanoma by enhancing antitumor immune activity. Currently, major strategies for the PD-1/PD-L1 blockade have mainly focused on the use of antibodies and compounds. Seeking an alternative approach, others employ endogenous proteins as blocking agents. The extracellular domain of PD-1 (ePD1) includes the binding site with PD-L1. Accordingly, we constructed a PD-1-based recombinantly tailored fusion protein (dFv-ePD1) that consists of bivalent variable fragments (dFv) of an MMP-2/9-targeted antibody and ePD1. The melanoma-binding intensity and antitumor activity were also investigated. We found the intense and selective binding capability of the protein dFv-ePD1 to human melanoma specimens was confirmed by a tissue microarray. In addition, dFv-ePD1 significantly suppressed the migration and invasion of mouse melanoma B16-F1 cells, and displayed cytotoxicity to cancer cells in vitro. Notably, dFv-ePD1 significantly inhibited the growth of mouse melanoma B16-F1 tumor cells in mice and in vivo fluorescence imaging showed that dFv-ePD was gradually accumulated into the B16-F1 tumor. Also the B16-F1 tumor fluorescence intensity at the tumor site was stronger than that of dFv. This study indicates that the recombinant protein dFv-ePD1 has an intensive melanoma-binding capability and exerts potent therapeutic efficacy against melanoma. The novel format of the PD-L1-blocked agent may play an active role in antitumor immunotherapy. [BMB Reports 2018; 51(11): 572-577]
