        Ni Nanoparticle Anchored on MWCNT as a Novel Electrochemical Sensor for Detection of Phenol

        Increasing active sites and enhancing electric conductivity are critical factors to improve sensing performance toward phenol. Herein, Ni nanoparticle was successfully anchored on acidified multiwalled carbon nanotube (a-MWCNT) surface by electroless plating technique to avoid Ni nanoparticle agglomeration and guarantee high conductivity. The crystal structure, phase composition and surface morphology were characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM measurement. The as-prepared Ni/a-MWCNT nanohybrid was immobilized onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface for constructing phenol sensor. The phenol sensing performance indicated that Ni/a-MWCNT/GCE exhibited an amazing detection performance with rapid response time of 4s, a relatively wide detection range from 0.01 mM to 0.48 mM, a detection limit of 7.07 μM and high sensitivity of 566.2 μAmM -1 cm -2. The superior selectivity, reproducibility, stability and applicability in real sample of Ni/a-MWCNT/GCE endowed it with potential application in discharged wastewater.

        信阳位于长江、淮河流域之间,是南北方文化交融的中心地带。其民歌种类繁多,分布广泛,商城县、新县、固始县、罗山县、息县、光山县、潢川县、淮滨县均有分布,其中以信阳小调最为丰富。信阳小调分为吟唱调、谣曲和时调三类,题材大多来源于人民群众的劳动生产,风俗习惯,现实生活,婚姻爱情等,有的反映了旧社会底层人民的悲惨生活,有的反映了民俗节日,有的具有较强的时代特征。以“装饰音”“节奏多变”“级进和三度跳进”“重复乐句”为基础形成的典型的旋律构成类型,使信阳小调拥有了独有的特色。 Xinyang is located between the Yangtze River and Huai River basins, and is the center of cultural integration between the north and south. Its folk songs have a wide variety and are widely distributed (including Shangcheng County, Xinxian County, Gushi County, Luoshan County, Xi County, Guangshan County, Huangchuan County, and Huaibin County), with Xinyang minor being the most abundant. Xinyang minor tunes are divided into three categories: singing tunes, folk songs, and seasonal tunes. The themes mostly come from the labor and production of the people, customs and habits, real life, love and marriage, etc. Some reflect the tragic life of the lower-class people in the old society, some reflect folk festivals, and some have strong characteristics of the times. The typical melodic composition types based on ‘decorative tone’, ‘variable rhythm’, ‘progressive and triple jump’, and ‘repetitive phrases’ give Xinyang minor unique characteristics.

        Potent antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of TICbf-14, a peptide with increased stability against trypsin

        The poor stability of peptides against trypsin largely limits their development as potential antibacterial agents. Here, to obtain a peptide with increased trypsin stability and potent antibacterial activity, TICbf-14 derived from the cationic peptide Cbf-14 was designed by the addition of disulfide-bridged hendecapeptide (CWTKSIPPKPC) loop. Subsequently, the trypsin stability and antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities of this peptide were evaluated. The possible mechanisms underlying its mode of action were also clarified. The results showed that TICbf-14 exhibited elevated trypsin inhibitory activity and effectively mitigated lung histopathological damage in bacteria-infected mice by reducing the bacterial counts, further inhibiting the systemic dissemination of bacteria and host inflammation. Additionally, TICbf-14 significantly repressed bacterial swimming motility and notably inhibited biofilm formation. Considering the mode of action, we observed that TICbf-14 exhibited a potent membrane-disruptive mechanism, which was attributable to its destructive effect on ionic bridges between divalent cations and LPS of the bacterial membrane. Overall, TICbf-14, a bifunctional peptide with both antimicrobial and trypsin inhibitory activity, is highly likely to become an ideal candidate for drug development against bacteria.

        Bacterial Cellulose Immobilized S. cerevisiae as Microbial Sensor for Rapid BOD Detection

        As one of the most important parameters to characterize the organic pollution of water, biochemical oxygendemand (BOD) determined through a rapid, in situ and on line method is very attractive. In this paper, a new BOD biosensorhas been developed, which are composed of the ecofriendly precursor of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) embeddedin bacterial cellulose (BC) matrix and the Ketjen Black (KB) modified glassy-carbon electrode. Furthermore, a doublemediatorsystem is constructed using potassium ferricyanide and menadione in reaction cell to transfer electron from themicrobe to electrode. The responses of glucose glutamic acid (GGA) standard solutions are amperomertrically measured withan applied potential of 0.25 V versus Hg/Hg2Cl2 in a three-electrode system. Under the optimum conditions, the (BC/S. cerevisiae-menadione)/KB modified electrode shows a high operational stability with relative standard deviation (RSD) of4.16 % (fourteen assays), a good repeatability (RSD=3.10 %), a fast response time (in 20 minutes) and a wide linear range(from 10-220 mg O2 l-1). The BOD values measured by this method have been highly correlated with the standard BOD 5-daymethod for wastewater samples (R2=0.9859, n=3), indicating that it can meet the requirement of BOD rapid measurement.

        An energy-efficient hierarchical algorithm of dynamic obstacle avoidance for unmanned surface vehicle

        Most of the existing studies developed and improved local path planning algorithms independently of global planning, i.e., ignoring the global optimal constrains. To meet the requirements of practical applications, this paper presented an energy-efficient hierarchical collision avoidance algorithm for unmanned surface vehicle operating in clustered dynamic environments. For the global level, genetic algorithm was modified by strategies of greedy-inspired population initialization, penalty-based multiobjective fitness function, and joint crossover. For the local level, velocity obstacle was combined with dynamic window approach to provide the kinematic constraints of the vehicle to its admissible velocities and simplified collision avoidance rules to guide the evasive maneuvers. Simulations showed that the proposed global algorithm was superior to three other algorithms in terms of path length, path smoothness, and convergence speed regardless of the environment size. The performance of the local algorithm was also verified for various encounter scenarios and speed ratios. In addition, the combination of the global and local planning can effectively solve the path optimization and dynamic obstacle avoidance in a designed offshore environment of fish cage culture.

        Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Properties of Chinese Ilicifolius Vegetable (Acanthopanax trifoliatus (L) Merr) and Its Reference Compounds

        Stems and leaves of Acanthopanax trifoliatus (L) Merr (AT) are commonly used as an edible vegetable in China. The scientific basis of antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities of AT was investigated. The polyphenol contents and free radical scavenging activities of AT ethanol extracts (EAT) were determined. Chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A, isochlorogenic acid C, and rutin were identified as major components in EAT. LPS-induced NO production in RAW264.7 cells was decreased significantly (p<0.05) after EAT treatment, compared with controls. In vivo studies indicated that EAT had more activity than chlorogenic acid per mg of dry weight for inhibition of TPA-induced ear edema. TPA-induced increases in cytokine production (TNF-α, IL-6, MMP-9, and TIMP-1) were significantly (p<0.05) reduced by EAT treatment, compared with controls. EAT exerts anti-inflammatory activities probably due, at least in part, to chlorogenic acid.

        Injectable Hydrogels with Near-Infrared Controlled Drug Delivery for In Situ Photothermal/Endocrine Synergistic Endometriosis Therapy

        Background Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease in women of childbearing age. Commonly used treatment methods, such as endocrine and surgical therapies, display poor therapeutic effects with a high relapse probability. Thus, novel treatments for endometriosis are required. Methods In our study, polydopamine (PDA), letrozole (LTZ), and agarose (AG) hydrogels were combined to construct an injectable hydrogel with near-infrared controlled drug delivery named LTZ-PDA@AG hydrogel for endometriosis treatment. The release of letrozole can be accurately controlled by the near-infrared light intensity, exposure duration, polydopamine concentration, and hydrogel composition. Meanwhile, we isolated endometrial stromal cells from endometrium in patients with endometriosis, and constructed the rats’ model of endometriosis to verify the biological effects of LTZ-PDA@AG hydrogel. Results Owing to the sufficiently deep penetration of near-infrared light, the LTZ-PDA@AG hydrogel displayed a high temperature increase for efficient photothermal therapy. In addition, high local temperatures can further enhance the diffusion and penetration of letrozole, thereby achieving excellent therapeutic effect in vivo. Importantly, the in vivo and vitro test demonstrated the capacity of the nanocomposite hydrogel for endocrine-photothermal synergistic therapy and the biocompatibility. Conclusion Our work proposes a novel concept for precision endometriosis therapy by photothermal-enhanced endocrine therapy for endometriosis, which is proposed for the first time for the treatment of endometriosis and demonstrates excellent potential for further clinical translation.

        Current boundary‑based predictive current control of induction machines with lower switching frequencies

        An excessively high switching frequency causes significant losses in inverters, especially in high-power applications, which should be avoided. Predictive control, based on a circular boundary restriction strategy presented in this paper, can effectively suppress current distortion while reducing the switching frequency. Until now, this method has been implemented with the same boundaries for both the torque component and flux component of the stator current vector. Due to the physical behavior of an induction motor, a higher current distortion tolerance of the flux component of the stator current vector can be accepted without affecting the torque. Therefore, in this work, the circular boundary restriction strategy is modified to configure larger boundaries for the flux component than for the torque component. This is done to achieve an even lower switching frequency. Furthermore, an additional improvement can be expected if only the boundaries of the torque component are strictly maintained, while the magnetizing current can exceed its boundary to some extent. The predictive control method based on this new strategy is experimentally tested to determine its feasibility. A method based on the circular boundary strategy is also implemented under the same testing conditions, and the performances of both strategies are compared.

        Female migrants in China: Second child fertility behavior and employment stability

        Researchers have found a negative relationship between female fertility and employment. China’s floating population comprises 244 million as of 2017. This migrant population has relevance in view of China’s hukou (household registration) system, with the proportion of females increasing annually. This study is grounded in social role theory and employs the 2016 China Migrants Dynamic Survey (CMDS) to examine the impact of second child fertility behavior on the employment stability of female migrants in China, with respect to urban and rural differences. Binary logistic regression results indicate that bearing second children negatively affects the employment stability of female migrants. Also, its impact is stronger for female migrants of urban origin than their rural counterparts. In addition, family migration is noted to mitigate the conflict between childbearing and employment stability for them as they continue to face the dilemma of having children or seeking employment stability, especially if family and social support is weak or absent. We discuss the implications of this study on policy changes to alleviate the conflict female migrants experience in choosing between fertility and employment.
