        Physical therapists have been using balance and weight shifting training to induce improvements in standing and walking. This study compared the effects of kinetic feedback frequency and concurrent kinetic feedback on the performance and learning of a weight shifting skill in young, nondisabled adults. Sixteen young adults without known impairment of the neuromusculoskeletal system volunteered for the study. Subjects in each of three kinetic feedback groups performed a weight shifting task in an attempt to minimize error between their effort and a center of pressure (COP) template for a 12 second period. Feedback was provided: 1) concurrently (concurrent feedback), 2) after each trial (100% feedback), 3) after ever other trial (50% feedback). Immediate and delayed (24 hous) retention tests were performed without feedback. During ascquistion phase, the concurrent feedback group exhibited less error than either of the post response feedback group. For the immediate retention test, the 50% feedback group exhibited less error than did the 100% feedback and concurrent feedback. During the delayed retention, 50% feedback group displayed less error than did the other groups. But no significant differences were found between groups. these results suggest that practice with concurrent feedback is beneficial for the immediate performance, but not for the learning of this weight shifting skill. Lower frequency of feedback resulted in more permanent changes in the subject's ability to complete the task.

        Bacillus cereus KCTC 3674 produced at least two kinds of extracellular proteases. Two major bands of the protease activity with molecular weights of approximately 100 and 38 kDa were obtained after gelatin-SDS-PAGE. The production of extracellular proteases occurred during the logarithmic growth phase and was greatest when cultures reached the stationary growth phase. On the other hand, the growth of B. cereus KCTC 3674 and the production of its extracellular proteases were severely inhibited by the addition of protonophore carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP). Thus, it was concluded that the growth of B. cereus KCTC 3674 and the production of its extracellular pretenses were strongly affected by a H+ electrochemical potential.

        Maternal antimullerian hormone as a predictor of fetal aneuploidy occurring in an early pregnancy loss

        Objective The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between the parameter representing ovarian reserve and the fetal aneuploidy in early spontaneous miscarriage. Methods A multicenter retrospective cohort study was performed in patients who were diagnosed with early pregnancy loss (≤13 gestational weeks) and examined for fetal karyotype at the CHA Gangnam Medical Center, CHA Bundang Medical Center, and CHA Gumi Medical Center between January 2011 and December 2012. Karyotyping was performed by the Genetic Laboratory of the Fertility Center of CHA Gangnam Medical Center. Medical records were reviewed for demographics, karyotype analysis and hormonal assay of ovarian reserve including antimullerian hormone (AMH) and follicle stimulating hormone. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results A total 462 patients were included in this study. The mean age of the patients was 35.31±4.12 years and the mean AMH level was 3.88±3.50 ng/mL (n=195). Two hundred eleven conceptuses (45.7%) of patients showed the euploid and 251 (54.3%) showed the aneuploid. There are significant differences in maternal age, AMH and gestational age between fetal euploid and aneuploid groups (34.46±4.35 vs. 36.04±3.78 years, P<0.001; 4.60±3.86 vs. 3.43±3.18 ng/mL, P=0.022; 7.67±1.54 vs. 8.27±1.46 weeks, P<0.001, respectively). Multivariate analysis revealed that low AMH level and early gestational age were maternal age-independent markers for fetal aneuploid (P<0.001 and P=0.045, respectively). Conclusion Low maternal AMH level might be a predicting marker for fetal aneuploid in early pregnancy loss.

        Experiences and efficacy of noninvasive prenatal test using maternal plasma in single center: 1,591 cases

        Purpose: The objective of this study was to analyze the results of several noninvasive prenatal tests (NIPTs) from a single cen-ter and conἀrm their efἀcacy and reliability. In addition, we aimed to conἀrm the changes in the number of invasive tests per-formed after introducing NIPT. Materials and Methods: NIPT data from a large single center from March 2014 to November 2018 were analyzed. Karyotyping was confirmed based on chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, or postnatal cord/peripheral blood sampling. Data on maternal age, gestational age, fetal fraction, and ultrasonographic results were analyzed. As the secondary outcome, the number of amniocentesis cases before and after the introduction of NIPT was compared. Results: Overall, 1,591 single pregnancy cases that underwent NIPT were enrolled. The mean maternal age was 36.05 (22-45) years. The average gestational age and fetal fraction were 12+1 (9+3 to 27+1) weeks and 10.95% (3.6% to 31.3%), respectively. A total of 1,544 cases (97.0%) were reported to have negative NIPT re-sults and 40 (2.5%) had positive NIPT results. The sensitivity and specificity of the overall abnormalities in NIPT were 96.29% and 99.36%, respectively. The positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value were 72.22% and 99.93% respectively. The mean number of amniocentesis cases were 21.7 per month (21.7±3.9), which significantly decreased from 31.5 per month (31.5±4.8) before conducting NIPT as a screening test. Conclusion: NIPT is currently a useful, powerful, and safe screening test. In particular, trisomy 21 is highly speciἀc due to its high PPV. NIPT can reduce the potential risks of procedure-related miscarriages during invasive testing.

      • Experiences and Efficacy of non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT) using maternal plasma in single center: 1591 cases

        Objective: To analyze the result of a large number of NIPT in single center and confirm the efficacy and reliability. Methods: The data of NIPT in single center from Mar.2014 to Nov.2018 were analyzed. The patients who referred from other hospital due to abnormal result were also included. All of the patient have completed the delivery. Karyotyping confirmation was done by CVS or amniocentesis or postnatal cord blood sampling. We consider normal karyotype if there were no special abnormalities during pregnancy, no abnormal phenotype in neonate after birth. Details on age, gestational age, platform, fetal fraction, sonographic results were analyzed. Results: Total 1591 single pregnancy cases who performed NIPT were enrolled.640cases were individual SNP method, and 951cases were whole genome MPS method. Mean age was 36.1(22-45) years and gestational age, fetal fraction were 12+1(9+3-27+1)wks and 10.9(3.6-31.3)%.1544cases(97.1%) reported as negative NIPT results,40cases(2.5%) reported as positive NIPT results,7 cases(0.4%) were uninformed. In positive group, only 36cases cytogenetic confirmation tests were done whereas 4cases were F/U loss. Confirmed 36cases were following; Among the 19karyotype tests in NIPT trisomy21 positive group, all 19cases revealed as trisomy 21(100%).In 2cases of trisomy18 high risk group, 1case(50%) was confirmed as trisomy18.Trisomy13(n=1) was also confirmed as trisomy13.Among Sex chromosome abnormality group(n=8), 4cases showed discordancy result. Since we used MPS method, other uncommon trisomy;trisomy15(n=2),7(n=1) and 14(n=1) were incidentally detected. In this study, sensitivity and specificity were 96.3% and 99.4%, PPV and NPV were 72.2% and 99.9%,respectively. Conclusion: Clinical review of general cases are introduced based on single center’s results. NIPT is currently a useful, powerful and safe screening test, as the result we can reduce invasive test. In particular, trisomy 21 is highly effective due to its high PPV. In case of trisomy13,18 and SCA, confirmed test is necessarily required.

        Why Is a b-value Range of 1500–2000 s/mm2 Optimal for Evaluating Prostatic Index Lesions on Synthetic Diffusion-Weighted Imaging?

        Objective: It is uncertain why a b-value range of 1500–2000 s/mm2 is optimal. This study was aimed at qualitatively and quantitatively analyzing the optimal b-value range of synthetic diffusion-weighted imaging (sDWI) for evaluating prostatic index lesions. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 92 patients who underwent DWI and targeted biopsy for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-suggested index lesions. We generated sDWI at a b-value range of 1000–3000 s/mm2 using dedicated software and true DWI data at b-values of 0, 100, and 1000 s/mm2. We hypothesized that lesion conspicuity would be best when the background (i.e., MRI-suggested benign prostatic [bP] and periprostatic [pP] regions) signal intensity (SI) is suppressed and becomes homogeneous. To prove this hypothesis, we performed both qualitative and quantitative analyses. For qualitative analysis, two independent readers analyzed the b-value showing the best visual conspicuity of an MRIsuggested index lesion. For quantitative analysis, the readers assessed the b-value showing the same bP and pP region SI. The 95% confidence interval (CI) or interquartile range of qualitatively and quantitatively selected optimal b-values was assessed, and the mean difference between qualitatively and quantitatively selected b-values was investigated. Results: The 95% CIs of optimal b-values from qualitative and quantitative analyses were 1761–1805 s/mm2 and 1640– 1771 s/mm2 (median, 1790 s/mm2 vs. 1705 s/mm2; p = 0.003) for reader 1, and 1835–1895 s/mm2 and 1705–1841 s/mm2 (median, 1872 s/mm2 vs. 1763 s/mm2; p = 0.022) for reader 2, respectively. Interquartile ranges of qualitatively and quantitatively selected optimal b-values were 1735–1873 s/mm2 and 1573–1867 s/mm2 for reader 1, and 1775–1945 s/mm2 and 1591–1955 s/mm2 for reader 2, respectively. Bland-Altman plots consistently demonstrated a mean difference of less than 100 s/mm2 between qualitatively and quantitatively selected optimal b-values. Conclusion: b-value range showing a homogeneous background signal may be optimal for evaluating prostatic index lesions on sDWI. Our qualitative and quantitative data consistently recommend b-values of 1500–2000 s/mm2.

        Metformin Inhibits Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Mice

        The present study examined whether metformin treatment prevents isoporterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in mice. Chronic subcutaneous infusion of isoproterenol (15 mg/kg/24 h) for 1 week using an osmotic minipump induced cardiac hypertrophy measured by the heart-to-body weight ratio and left ventricular posterior wall thickness. Cardiac hypertrophy was accompanied with increased interleukin-6 (IL-6), transforming growth factor (TGF)-${\beta}$, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), collagen I and III, and matrix metallopeptidase 2 (MMP-2). Coinfusion of metformin (150 mg/kg/24 h) with isoproterenol partially inhibited cardiac hypertrophy that was followed by reduced IL-6, TGF-${\beta}$, ANP, collagen I and III, and MMP-2. Chronic subcutaneous infusion of metformin did not increase AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activity in heart, although acute intraperitoneal injection of metformin (10 mg/kg) increased AMPK activity. Isoproterenol increased nitrotyrosine levels and mRNA expression of antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase and metformin treatment normalized these changes. These results suggest that metformin inhibits cardiac hypertrophy through attenuating oxidative stress.

      • The different effect of VEGF polymorphisms to prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer according to tumor histology

        Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) contributes to tumor angiogenesis including lung cancer. The role of VEGF single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in susceptibility and prognosis of lung cancer remains inconclusive and controversial. We hypothesized that VEGF polymorphisms may affect survival outcome among early stage non- small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in Korean population. Method: We genotyped three potentially functional VEGF SNPs [rs833061 T>C, rs2010963 G>C, and rs3025039 C>T] and evaluated the relationship between these VEGF variants and survival outcome among early stage NSCLC patients, who were treated with surgical resection at Kyungpook National University Hospital. Analyses were performed using Kaplan-Meier log-rank test, and Cox proportional hazard models. Result: Although all three polymorphisms were not significantly associated with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in NSCLC as whole, there were significant differences in OS and DFS by rs833061 T>C polymorphism when separated by tumor histology. Conclusion : rs833061 T>C polymorphism may be a prognostic marker of NSCLC and affect differently depending on tumor histology.

        Deficiency of iNOS Does Not Prevent Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Mice

        We investigated whether deficiency of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) could prevent isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in iNOS knockout (KO) mice. Isoproterenol was continuously infused subcutaneously (15 mg/kg/day) using an osmotic minipump. Isoproterenol reduced body weight and fat mass in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice compared with saline-infused wild-type mice. Isoproterenol increased the heart weight in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice but there was no difference between iNOS KO and wild-type mice. Posterior wall thickness of left ventricle showed the same tendency with heart weight. Protein level of iNOS in the left ventricle was increased in isoproterenol-infused wild-type mice. The gene expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and transforming growth factor-${\beta}$ (TGF-${\beta}$) in isoproterenol-infused wild-type was measured at 2, 4, 24, and 48-hour and isoproterenol increased both IL-6 (2, 4, 24, and 48-hour) and TGF-${\beta}$ (4 and 24-hour). Isoproterenol infusion for 7 days increased the mRNA level of IL-6 and TGF-${\beta}$ in iNOS KO mice, whereas the gene expression in wild-type mice was not increased. Phosphorylated form of extracellular signal-regulated kinases (pERK) was also increased by isoproterenol at 2 and 4-hour but was not increased at 7 days after infusion in wild-type mice. However, the increased pERK level in iNOS KO mice was maintained even at 7 days after isoproterenol infusion. These results suggest that deficiency of iNOS does not prevent isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy and may have potentially harmful effects on cardiac hypertrophy.
