      • Optimal Placement of SVC Incorporating Installation Cost

Ankit Kumar Sharma,Akash Saxena,Rajive Tiwari 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.9 No.8

As the FACTS controllers are an inequitable part of power system due to their fast and very flexible control. With the enhancement of FACTS technology, their role in the marginal cost determination should be considered taking their cost function into account. The aim of this paper is to compare the optimal performance of static VAR compensator (SVC) in voltage stability enhancement problem. During last decade, FACTS devices are broadly used for maximizing the margin of voltage stability and loadability of existing power system transmission networks. To get the optimal system, cost analysis might be necessary. In the cost analysis of SVC, authors analyzed the installation cost of SVC devices in USD, the cost of SVC in USD/KVAR and the average value of installation cost for given systems. Here, the voltage stability enhancement problem is solved applying Gravitational Search algorithm incorporating SVC. The following conditions are investigated with the incorporation of SVC: the role of SVC for improving the voltage profile, loss minimization and the approximate analysis on cost recovery and payback period with SVC in voltage stability enhancement problem. With this motivation, the location of SVC is finalized through weak bus identification methods. Voltage stability indices namely Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) is utilized to identify weak buses in the systems. For calculation of the Size of SVC, an optimization routine Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) is established. The main purpose of optimization is to minimize the FVSI. The proposed approach has been tested on three standard IEEE bus systems with different loading scenarios. General Terms: Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS), Marginal Cost, Voltage Stability Assessment, Static VAR Compensators.

Phase transformation behavior of Ca-doped zirconia sintered at different temperatures

        Kumar Ankit,Kumar Pravin,Dhaliwal A. S. 한국세라믹학회 2022 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.59 No.3

The phase evolution studies of 16 mol% calcium-doped zirconia have been carried out after sintering the samples at 800 °C, 1000 °C, 1200 °C, and 1400 °C. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopic along FTIR studies confirmed that the pure zirconia exists only in the monoclinic phase. However, the XRD analysis of calcium-doped zirconia and its Rietveld refinement studies revealed the stabilization of zirconia in the monoclinic and cubic phases both. With increasing sintering temperature, the development of cubic phase in zirconia is seen and at 1400 °C, an almost fully stabilized cubic phase of zirconia is achieved. The traces of CaZrO3 (perovskite phase) are observed in XRD and Raman studies when samples are sintered at 800 °C and 1000 °C. The results of FESEM suggest that grains are uniformly distributed and closely packed. Further, EDS mapping suggests that the calcium is uniformly distributed in samples. The thermal stability analysis confirms that calcium-stabilized zirconia is stable at high temperatures and analysis of the Vickers hardness test confirms that it is harder as compared to pure zirconia. Results reported here indicate that the sintering of 16 mol% calcium-doped zirconia at 1400 °C leads to the complete transformation of m-ZrO2 to c-ZrO2.

      • Assessment of Voigt and LRVE models for thermal shock analysis of thin FGM blade: A neutral surface approach

Ankit Kumar,Shashank Pandey 국제구조공학회 2023 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.85 No.1

The present work is an attempt to develop a simple and accurate finite element formulation for the assessment of thermal shock/thermally induced vibrations in pretwisted and tapered functionally graded material thin (FGM) blades obtained from Voigt and local representative volume elements (LRVE) homogenization models, based on neutral surface approach. The neutral surface of the FGM blade does not coincide with its mid-surface. A finite element model (FEM) is developed using firstorder shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the FGM turbine blade is modelled according to the shallow shell theory. The top and the bottom layers of the FGM blade are made of pure ceramic and pure metal, respectively and temperature-dependent material properties are functionally graded in the thickness direction, the position of the neutral surface also depends on the temperature. The material properties are estimated according to two different homogenization models viz., Voigt or LRVE. The top layer of the FGM blade is subjected to high temperature and the bottom surface is either thermally insulated or kept at room temperature. The solution of the nonlinear profile of the temperature in the thickness direction is obtained from the Fourier law of heat conduction in the unsteady state. The results obtained from the present FEM are compared with the benchmark examples. Next, the effect of angle of twist, intensity of thermal shock, variable chord and span and volume fraction index on the transient response due to thermal shock obtained from the two homogenization models viz., Voigt and LRVE scheme is investigated. It is shown that there can be a significant difference in the transient response calculated by the two homogenization models for a particular set of material and geometric parameters.

Effects of zolpidem on sleep parameters in patients with cirrhosis and sleep disturbances: A randomized, placebo-controlled trial

        Manoj Kumar Sharma,Sumeet Kainth,Sachin Kumar,Ankit Bhardwaj,Hemant Kumar Agarwal,Rakhi Maiwall,Kapil Dev Jamwal,Saggere Muralikrishna Shasthry,Ankur Jindal,Ashok Choudhary,Lovkesh Anand,Rajender Mal 대한간학회 2019 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.25 No.2

Background/Aims: The aim of this study was to study the efficacy and safety of zolpidem for sleep disturbances in patients with cirrhosis. Methods: Fifty-two Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) class A or B cirrhotics with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index >5 were randomized to either zolpidem 5 mg daily (n=26) or placebo (n=26) for 4 weeks. Results: The therapy of 4 weeks was completed by 23 patients receiving zolpidem (3 stopped treatment due to excessive daytime drowsiness) and 24 receiving placebo (2 refused to continue the study). In the zolpidem group, after 4 weeks of therapy, there was significant increase in total sleep time (TST) and sleep efficiency compared to baseline and improvement in polysomnographic parameters of sleep initiation and maintenance (i.e., decrease in sleep latency time, decrease in wake time, and decreases in number of arousals and periodic limbs movements per hour of sleep), without any significant change in sleep architecture. Conclusions: Four weeks of 5 mg daily zolpidem in CTP class A or B cirrhosis patients with insomnia led to significant increases in TST and sleep efficiency and improvement in polysomnographic parameters of sleep initiation and maintenance without any significant change in sleep architecture.

Life after Leaving Institutional Care: Independent Living Experience of Orphan Care Leavers of Mumbai, India

Keshri Ankit Kumar 한국사회복지학회 2021 Asian Social Work and Policy Review Vol.15 No.3

Transitioning from institutional care to independent living is a complex process for orphan care leavers. Most of them struggle to adapt to independent living for longer periods after leaving institutional care. This study describes those challenges in the Indian context. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 13 orphan care leavers to explore their experiences and perceptions of independent living. Findings showed that orphan care leavers perceive independent living as both opportunity and challenge. Some orphan care leavers felt that after leaving institutional care, they have lived through difficulties at their workplace: while finding accommodation, in household management, and establishing their official identity. However, data suggest that even in adverse circumstances, these orphan young adults have kept hope and have positive aspirations about their lives with a very strong informal network of care leavers as their main source of support. But overall, it was confirmed that social exclusion based on personal and care background is persistent among the orphan care leavers. Therefore, for promoting a better independent living experience initiating changes in the approach to work with care leavers is recommended.

In Silico Studies of Indole Derivatives as Antibacterial Agents

        Shah Mridul,Kumar Adarsh,Singh Ankit Kumar,Singh Harshwardhan,Narasimhan Balasubramanian,Kumar Pradeep 대한약침학회 2023 Journal of pharmacopuncture Vol.26 No.2

Objectives: Molecular docking and QSAR studies of indole derivatives as antibacterial agents. Methods: In this study, we used a multiple linear regressions (MLR) approach to construct a 2D quantitative structure activity relationship of 14 reported indole derivatives. It was performed on the reported antibacterial activity data of 14 compounds based on theoretical chemical descriptors to construct statistical models that link structural properties of indole derivatives to antibacterial activity. We have also performed molecular docking studies of same compounds by using Maestro module of Schrodinger. A set the molecular descriptors like hydrophobic, geometric, electronic and topological characters were calculated to represent the structural features of compounds. The conventional antibiotics sultamicillin and ampicillin were not used in the model development since their structures are different from those of the created compounds. Biological activity data was first translated into pMIC values (i.e. –log MIC) and used as a dependent variable in QSAR investigation. Results: Compounds with high electronic energy and dipole moment were effective antibacterial agents against S. aureus, indole derivatives with lower κ 2 values were excellent antibacterial agents against MRSA standard strain, and compounds with lower R value and a high 2 χ v value were effective antibacterial agents against MRSA isolate. Conclusion: Compounds 12 and 2 showed better binding score against penicillin binding protein 2 and penicillin binding protein 2a respectively.

Critical Review of Flexible Pavement Performance Models

Ankit Gupta,Praveen Kumar,Rajat Rastogi 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.1

Maintenance and repair of the highway network system are major expenses in the state budget. For this reason various concerned organizations are pointing out the need for developing an intelligent and efficient pavement performance model that can prioritize pavement maintenance and rehabilitation works. Such models can forecast the remaining pavement service life and pavement rehabilitation needs, and can help in the formulation of pavement maintenance and strengthening programmes which will reduce the road agency and road user costs. The flexible pavement performance or deterioration models involve the complex interaction between vehicles and the environment, and the structure and surface of the pavement. Performance models relating to the pavement distress conditions like, cracking, raveling, potholing, and roughness are analyzed and developed by various researchers. But most of these models are found applicable to a particular set of traffic or environment conditions, thus highlighting the need of model(s) that can work in varied conditions satisfactorily. The paper presents a detailed review of various pavement performance models to examine the role of factors related to pavement materials, environmental conditions, type of traffic and volume of traffic, and to identify the limitations and gaps in the present knowledge on such models.
