Critical Review of Flexible Pavement Performance Models

Ankit Gupta,Praveen Kumar,Rajat Rastogi 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.1

Maintenance and repair of the highway network system are major expenses in the state budget. For this reason various concerned organizations are pointing out the need for developing an intelligent and efficient pavement performance model that can prioritize pavement maintenance and rehabilitation works. Such models can forecast the remaining pavement service life and pavement rehabilitation needs, and can help in the formulation of pavement maintenance and strengthening programmes which will reduce the road agency and road user costs. The flexible pavement performance or deterioration models involve the complex interaction between vehicles and the environment, and the structure and surface of the pavement. Performance models relating to the pavement distress conditions like, cracking, raveling, potholing, and roughness are analyzed and developed by various researchers. But most of these models are found applicable to a particular set of traffic or environment conditions, thus highlighting the need of model(s) that can work in varied conditions satisfactorily. The paper presents a detailed review of various pavement performance models to examine the role of factors related to pavement materials, environmental conditions, type of traffic and volume of traffic, and to identify the limitations and gaps in the present knowledge on such models.

A GENERALIZED APPROACH TOWARDS NORMALITY FOR TOPOLOGICAL SPACES

        Gupta, Ankit,Sarma, Ratna Dev The Kangwon-Kyungki Mathematical Society 2021 한국수학논문집 Vol.29 No.3

A uniform study towards normality is provided for topological spaces. Following Császár, 𝛄-normality and 𝛄(𝜃)-normality are introduced and investigated. For 𝛄 ∈ 𝚪13, 𝛄-normality is found to satisfy Urysohn's lemma and provide partition of unity. Several existing variants of normality such as 𝜃-normality, 𝚫-normality etc. are shown to be particular cases of 𝛄(𝜃)-normality. In this process, 𝛄-regularity and 𝛄(𝜃)-regularity are introduced and studied. Several important characterizations of all these notions are provided.

A Closed-Form Solution to Characterize the Behavior of Piping T-Joints

Ankit R. Dubey,Abhinav Gupta,Sung Gook Cho 한국강구조학회 2021 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.21 No.4

The performance characterization of a critical component like T-joints in piping systems for the purposes of fragility assessment requires experimental data. The component level experimental data is limited to specific thicknesses and diameters of the specimen used. Therefore, the experimentally obtained empirical models for incorporation into the simulation study cannot be extended directly to the different thickness and diameter of the pipe. This is a fundamental drawback in developing empirical models using the experimental data directly. Conducting multiple experiments for different pipe properties can be quite costly and impractical. Therefore, there is a need to incorporate a closed-form solution which can exhibit a reasonable reconciliation between the experimental and simulation data. A closed-form solution, which represents the behavior of a T-joint as a function of geometrical properties of the pipe, can also pave the way to account for degradation mechanism. This manuscript presents a new approach to characterize T-joint behavior through a closed-form solution. A closed-form solution can characterize T-joint behavior in a generalized form that allows assessment of the effect of pipe thicknesses on the T-joint behavior.

An eco-friendly route to develop cellulose-based multifunctional finished linen fabric using ZnO NPs and CS network

Mukul Gupta,Javed Sheikh,Annu,Ankit Singh 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.97 No.-

The study aims to develop a multifunctionalfinished linen fabric by using an environment-benign, greenand sustainable route. The cellulose-based linen fabric has been functionally modified by aminopolysaccharide (chitosan, CS), zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), andflower extract of medicinal plant,Bombax ceiba. The NPs were stabilized by the extract on chitosan polymeric layer, which was bound onthe fabric through citric acid. Thus, developedfinished fabric, at three different pH values, was examinedfor bending length, tensile strength, crease recovery, UV-protection, antibacterial, and antioxidantactivity. The embedded ZnO NPs have been confirmed through FT-IR, Energy dispersive X-Rayspectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed effective crease recovery angle (CRA) and hiked UV protection factor (UPR) withsplendid percent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus (>90%) and highfree radical scavenging ability (80–90%) for the modified fabrics. The durability of the multifunctionalproperties has also been determined by several launderings.

      • Natural History of Patients with Compensated Cirrhosis and a Hepatic Venous Pressure Gradient >20 mm Hg: A Prospective Longitudinal Cohort Study

        ( Aditi Gupta ),( Ankit Bhardwaj ),( Ankur Jindal ) 대한간학회 2018 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2018 No.1

Aims: HVPG >10 mm Hg predicts clinical decompensation (CD) in compensated cirrhotics. A few cirrhotics exhibit high HVPG (>20mm Hg) despite no CD. Their natural history, pattern of CD (ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, variceal bleed) and complications (HCC, mortality) is largely unknown. Methods: Consecutive compensated cirrhosis patients with HVPG >5 mm Hg (n=747) were followed up every 3-6 monthly for CD. They were sub-classified at baseline based on HVPG (< 12 mmHg (low HVPG group), 12-20 mmHg (Intermediate HVPG group) and >20 mmHg (High HVPG group). We analyzed only the low and high HVPG groups. Multivariate Logistic regression was used to identify predictors Results: 295(39.4%) patients developed clinical decompensation (CD) at mean follow up of 1.9 ± 0.3 years. In comparison to low HVPG group, first CD in high HVPG group developed early (1.4 ± 0.3 years vs 2 ± 0.3 years, P=0.02), more frequently (ascites- 27.1% vs 13.2%, variceal bleed- 31.9% vs 7.9%, AKI- 31% vs 12.8%, HCC- 12.4% vs. 3.9%; all P<0.05) with higher mortality (15.9% vs 1.9%; P<0.05). There was no significant correlation between baseline HVPG level and grade of esophageal varices (P=0.457). All patients in high HVPG group received carvedilol (maximum dose-25 mg/d, divided) and a repeat HVPG measured after a mean duration of 1.8 ± 0.4 years showed suboptimal HVPG response (≥20% reduction in HVPG or < 12 mmHg) in 26.6% patients (mean HVPG reduction, 3.3± 1.3 mm Hg). Etiology of cirrhosis and grade of varices were not significantly associated with CD or HVPG response. On multivariate analysis, baseline HVPG >20 mm Hg (hazard ratio [HR], 5.09; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.909-8.926, P=0.001) and high MELD score (HR, 1.125; 95% CI, 1.066- 1.187, P=0.001) were independent predictors of CD. Conclusions: An HVPG of >20mm Hg independently predicts early and more frequent CD in compensated cirrhotics. Only a quarter of these patients respond to carvedilol and hence mandates us for careful HVPG monitoring and low threshold for additional drugs or interventions.

      • DNS Prevention Using 64-Bit Time Synchronized Public Key Encryption to Isolate Phishing Attacks

Tanvi Gupta,Sumit Kumar,Ankit Tomar,KamalKant Verma 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.10 No.8

In this work, a quick authentication scheme is implemented to prevent Phishing and DNS spoofing. In DNS spoofing, attackers inject the fake DNS server by duplicating the IP addresses and fake server redirect network traffic to wrong destinations. In phishing, phishers clone the legitimate website and user think that it is original website and users giving away their username and passwords to attacker’s website and attackers hack their confidential information and they can misuse it for financial gain, identity theft, gaining fame, malware distribution and industrial espionage. We host the phishing website but we cannot pass the link through common hosting websites like Google and Facebook. So, phishers force the legitimate users to open a phished link with the DNS spoofing through fake DNS server then user directly redirect to a fake server. So our proposed work is to prevent DNS spoofing, to prevent the Phishing attacks by isolating it using 64-bit time synchronized public key encryption.

Microscopic varicocelectomy as a treatment option for patients with severe oligospermia

        Chirag Gupta,Arun Chinchole,Rupin Shah,Hemant Pathak,Deepa Talreja,Ankit Kayal 대한비뇨의학회 2018 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.59 No.3

Purpose: Many studies have shown improved semen parameters after varicocele surgery; however, the benefit in terms of improved pregnancy rates and live births is still disputed in cases of severe oligoasthenozoospermia (OAS). The present study evaluated the outcome of microscopic subinguinal varicocelectomy in terms of the spontaneous pregnancy rate in patients with severe OAS. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective, observational, analytic study of 56 men with OAS who underwent microscopic varicocelectomy at our center between 2008 and 2015. The subjects were followed for a mean period of 12.4 months. Outcome was compared among groups of men with mild (sperm concentration, 10.2–19 million/mL), moderate (5.7–9.5 million/mL), and severe (<5 million/mL) OAS who were operated on during the same period. Results: A total of 13 of 35 men (37.1%) with severe OAS achieved spontaneous pregnancy. Mean sperm density increased from 2.29 million/mL preoperatively to 14.09 million/mL postoperatively. The mean time to pregnancy from the date of surgery was 8.5 months. The spontaneous pregnancy rate in men with mild and moderate OAS was 62.5% and 46.2%, respectively. Conclusions: Although pregnancy rates after varicocele surgery are lower preoperatively in men with severe OAS than in men with mild or moderate OAS, the spontaneous pregnancy rate of 37.1% still compares very favorably with outcomes after a single attempt at in vitro fertilization.

Effect of FRP Wrapping on Axial Behavior of Concrete and Cyclic Behavior of External RC Beam Column Joints

        Pankaj Agarwal,Ankit Gupta,Rachanna G. Angadi 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.2

The study focuses on the effect of confinement due to transverse reinforcement and FRP jacketing on the axial behavior ofconcrete and external beam-column joints (i.e., T-joints) before and after retrofitting. The effectiveness of confinement is firstlyevaluated by stress - strain behavior of square prism specimen under pure axial compression. These specimens are prepared withdifferent amount of transverse reinforcement and FRP wraps (number of layers). Secondly, the cyclic tests are also carried out onbeam-column joint specimens, with two different configurations of reinforcement detailing and retrofitted by externally bondedFRP wrapping. One specimen is designed to comply with gravity load design codes and the other with detailing according toIndian Standards. GFRP wrapping is used for retrofitting of damaged joints with epoxy resin. GFRP jacketing comes out to be aneffective technique to regain the strength and stiffness of damaged joints. Also significant gain in strength and strain is observedunder pure axial compression.
