The pharmacological activities of the acetonitrile (MeCN), hexane extracts and isolated pure terpenoidal compound Lupeol from the leaves of Teclea nobilis, Delile (TN), on inflammation induced by carrageenan and implantation of cotton pellets in rats; the nociceptive response using writhing and tail flick tests and the antipyretic activity in yeast-induced fever were examined in mice. Oral administration of TN extracts at doses of 150 and 300 ㎎/㎏ and lupeol 5 and 10 ㎎/㎏ showed a significant anti-inflammatory activity in rats. The extracts of TN and lupeol significantly decreased the number of contractions and stretchings induced by acetic acid and heat-induced pain in mice. The antipyretic effect of extracts and lupeol was also found to be significant. The behavioral observation of animals showed that the hexane extract and lupeol caused CNS depressant activity and did not produce any toxic or lethal effects in animals at various dose levels. The results suggest that the Teclea nobilis extracts and lupeol possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities.

In this work, we have combined constant-pH molecular dynamics simulations and experiments to provide a quantitative analysis of pH dependent interactions between doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) cancer therapeutic and faceted nanodiamond (ND) nanoparticle carriers. Our study suggests that when a mixture of faceted ND and DOX is dissolved in a solvent, the pH of this solvent plays a controlling role in the adsorption of DOX molecules on the ND. We find that the binding of DOX molecules on ND occurs only at high pH and requires at least ∼10% of ND surface area to be fully titrated for binding to occur. As such, this study reveals important mechanistic insight underlying an ND-based pH-controlled therapeutic platform.

Graphic Abstract

In a project to study the hepatroprotective effect of some plant extracts four plants Ephedra foliate Boiss, Alhagi maurorum Medikus, Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) Medik. and Hibiscus sabdariffa L. were studied. The ethanol extract of the aerial part of the first three plants and the flowers of H. sabdariffa were subjected to hepatoprotective assays using Wistar albino rats. Liver injury induced in rats using carbon tetrachloride. The biochemical parameters; serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and total bilirubin were estimated as reflection of the liver condition. Based on the good results of the biochemical parameters measurements, histopathological study was performed on the liver of rats treated with E. foliate. The normal appearance of hepatocytes indicated a good protection of the extract from carbon tetrachloride hepatotoxicity. All the results were compared with silymarin, the reference hepatoprotective drug.
Pose Estimation of 5-DOF Manipulator using On-Body Markers

Manipulators are helpful in performing various hazardous tasks like sanitization with chemicals in germs infected areas, spraying pesticides in fields, pick and place of heavy and hazardous materials where direct human intervention is difficult. For manipulators to perform its assigned task accurately, prior estimation of its pose needs to be pinpointed. End-effector grasping and arm manipulation require estimation of 3D object poses. Recently, a number of procedures and databases for vision-based estimation of object pose have been advised. However, it is not clear about the performance of the developed algorithms for visual pose estimation of robot manipulation. In this paper we present the pose estimation of a 5-dof PhantomX Reactor Arm using On-Body/Aruco Markers. Forward and inverse kinematics were used to estimate the pose from the position coordinates calculated using computer vision techniques. This paper implements an approach aimed at estimating the pose of a camera, affixed to a robotic manipulator, against a target object. We adopt a single camera single-shot technique that minimizes the reprojection error over all the rigid poses. The simulation and experimental results using industrial monocular camera for different sizes of On-body markers were presented.

The effect of nitrogen addition in the feed gas on the finally incorporated amount of hydrogen in the diamond nanorods (DNRs) thin films has been investigated. The Raman spectroscopy measurements helped to understand the structural and quality changes with increasing nitrogen gas flow rate during CVD deposition. The hydrogen concentration was measured with 3.0 MeV He2+ beam using elastic recoil detection analysis technique and it was found that with the addition of nitrogen, the hydrogen concentration was increased. The results of non-Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (NRBS) used to measure the amount of nitrogen in the DNRs thin films have shown that the incorporated nitrogen is below the detection limit of NRBS technique. Our results suggested that the addition of nitrogen has affected the overall quality of diamond films in two ways; increasing the thickness of diamond films by increasing the non-diamond carbon content and increasing the hydrogen impurity incorporation. The role of nitrogen additive on diamond growth and hydrogen incorporation is discussed.
Constituents of the Aerial Parts of Lonicera etrusca Growing in Saudi Arabia
Saleh I. Alqasoumi,Adnan J. Al-Rehaily,Maged S. Abdel-Kader 한국생약학회 2009 Natural Product Sciences Vol.15 No.3
Phytochemical investigation of the aerial parts of Lonicera etrusca resulted in the isolation of three iridoids including two aglycones, loganin aglycone (log-1) (1) and lonicerin (log-2) (2), and the known common glycoside loganin (4). The study also afforded a coumarin derivative, 7-hydroxycoumarin (3), and a flavonoid glycoside, luteolin-7-O- β-D-glucoside (5). The structures were determined utilizing physical, chemical and spectral methods.
