이상의 「날개」와 최인호의 「타인의 방」에 나타난 고립과 소외 고찰

This comparative study analysed Wings of Yi Sang and A Room of Strangers of Choi In-ho together. Though Wings and A Room of Strangers have a 35-year gap between the publication dates, but these stories have a common theme and literary trend; First, the two stories depict humans who are alienated from modern capitalist society, and second, both works contain modernist elements that include surrealism and existentialism. Therefore, this essay examined Wings and A Room of Strangers in two aspects: surrealist technique and existentialist philosophy, focusing on the motifs of ‘room’ and ‘relationship’. In both stories, rooms are main spaces and very important to imply the themes, and male characters suffer from self-division because of relational failure with their wives. These two works, showing similar spatial motifs and relational structures, present each aspect of modernism in the 1930s and 1970s. Wings as a modernist story in the 30s reveals self-consciousness and flow of consciousness, while Room of Strangers marks the beginning of the postmodern era through the literary formation of fetishism and self-division. Even if it were clear that two authors–Yi Sang and Choi In-ho as modernist writers share the narrative techniques and motifs, the use and effect of surrealism are represented differently in their respective works - Wings and A Rooms of Stranger, and the status of the subject and self is also different. In conclusion, this study found that the theme of modernist literature changes with the times, and that the individual works of the two modernist writers were uniquely created according to the different situation of the times and the literary character of the writer. .
김사량의 <빛 속으로> 다시 읽기 - 심미적 읽기와 텍스트의 현재성을 중심으로

김사량의 「빛 속으로」(1939)는 지금까지 문학연구자와 비평가들의 탈식민주의적 해석에 무게가 실리면서 작품의 대중성과 교육 제재로서의 가능성이 주목을 받지 못했다. 문학사적 가치를 인정받은 작품이 문학의 역사에만 머물러 존재하는 것은 아쉬운 일이라는 동기에서, 이 논문은 김사량 문학의 대중교육 가능성에 관심을 두고 열린 텍스트로서 「빛 속으로」의 독자반응중심의 비평을 시도하였다. 「빛 속으로」는 서술자가 곧 주인공이자 관찰자인 텍스트로, 감정이입 작용이 수월한 텍스트에 속한다. 독자는 ‘하루오’와 ‘나’가 서로에게 마음을 여는 과정에서 두 사람에게 함께 공감하고, 정체성으로 인한 배척과 고립이 인간으로서 가혹한 일이라는 인식에 도달한다. 또한 하루오의 어머니 ‘정순’을 통해 서발턴의 문제를 경험하게 되는데, 다문화 사회와 서발턴에 관심이 없었던 독자라도 일제강점기 ‘동족 여인’의 이야기에 참여하고 자신의 ‘지금 여기’를 성찰하면서 정순과 같은 다문화 상황의 서발턴이 ‘저들’이 아닌 ‘우리’라는 것을 깨닫게 된다. 요컨대 「빛 속으로」는 감정이입과 공감을 통해 주제를 전달하는 심미적 독서가 가능한 텍스트이며, 심미적 해석의 효과는 서발턴 문제를 핵심 축으로 하여 이 작품의 과거와 현재를 모두 포괄한다.
Evaluation of biological responses in rats experimentally exposed to crude oil

To evaluate the acute to chronic effects of crude oil exposure on hematological and blood biochemical toxicities, Sprague-Dawley rats were given by oral doses of 0, 50 or 100 mg/kg BW/day of Iranian heavy crude oils for four weeks. In the acute phase of exposure (1 day after 4 weeks oil treatment), decreases in weight of thymus, serum level of interferon gamma (IFN-γ), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase activities in liver or kidney, and increase in weight of adrenal gland occurred after oral administration of crude oil. In body weight, histopathological examination, hematological and blood biochemical analyses in the acute phase of exposure, there were no significant differences among the experimental groups. In the subchronic and chronic phase of exposure (2 months and 6 months after 4 weeks oil treatment), the changes of biomarkers were normalized except the indicators of oxidative stress. Our findings show that the bioassay on the indicators of oxidative stress is a sensitive method for determining exposure to crude oil in rat.
Evaluation of effect of red ginseng on ovariectomy-induced bone loss in C3H/HeN mice

Panax ginseng, also known as Korean ginseng, has long been used as a broad tonic in Oriental medicine to augment vitality, health, and longevity, particularly in older people. This study investigated the effects of Korean red ginseng (RG) on bone loss in ovariecto- mized (OVX) mice. C3H/HeN mice (10-weeks-old) were divided into sham and OVX groups. OVX mice were treated with vehicle, 17β-estradiol (E 2 ), RG (oral administration, 250 mg/kg/day), or RG (intraperito- neal administration, 50 mg/kg/every other day) for 6 weeks. Serum E 2 concentration and alkaline phos- phatase (ALP) activity were measured. Tibiae were analyzed using microcomputed tomography. Biome- chanical properties and osteoclast surface level were measured. There was no significant difference in the degree of grip strength, body weight, uterine weight, mechanical property, tibiae length, or tibiae weight between the OVX and RG-treated groups. Compared with the OVX group, the serum ALP level was sig- nificantly lower in the RG-treated groups. Serum E 2 levels and osteoclast surface levels did not change between the OVX and RG-treated groups. RG could not preserve trabecular bone volume, trabecular bone number, trabecular separation, trabecular thickness, structure model index, or bone mineral density of the proximal tibiae metaphysic. In conclusion, there was no definite effect of RG on OVX-induced bone loss in C3H/HeN mice.
Fast neutron irradiation deteriorates hippocampus-related memory ability in adult mice

Object recognition memory and contextual fear conditioning task performance in adult C57BL/6 mice exposed to cranial fast neutron irradiation (0.8 Gy) were examined to evaluate hippocampus-related behavioral dysfunction following acute exposure to relatively low doses of fast neutrons. In addition, hippocampal neurogenesis changes in adult murine brain after cranial irradiation were analyzed using the neurogenesis immunohistochemical markers Ki-67 and doublecortin (DCX). In the object recognition memory test and contextual fear conditioning, mice trained 1 and 7 days after irradiation displayed significant memory deficits compared to the sham-irradiated controls. The number of Ki-67- and DCX-positive cells decreased significantly 24 h post-irradiation. These results indicate that acute exposure of the adult mouse brain to a relatively low dose of fast neutrons interrupts hippocampal functions, including learning and memory, possibly by inhibiting neurogenesis.
Cytotoxicity of gamma-ray in rat immature hippocampal neurons

This in vitro study evaluated the detrimental effect of acute gamma (γ)-irradiation on rat immature hippocampal neurons. Rat immature hippocampal neurons (0.5 day in vitro) were irradiated with 0∼4 Gy γ-rays. Cytotoxicity was analyzed using a lactate dehydrogenase release assay at 24 h after γ-irradiation. Radiation-induced cytotoxicity in immature hippocampal neurons increased in a dose-dependent manner. Pre-treatments of pro-apoptotic caspase inhibitors and anti-oxidative substances significantly blocked γ-irradiation-induced cytotoxicity in immature hippocampal neurons. The results suggest that the caspase-dependent cytotoxicity of γ-rays in immature hippocampal cultured neurons may be caused by oxidative stress.
