Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the total, direct, and indirect influence of depression on health behavior (HB); to determine relative magnitudes of specific mediating effects of anger expression in gender specific subgroup among elders. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational survey was conducted in S and G cities with 333 community-dwe1ling elders (male=170, female=163). Data were collected from September 7 to November 7, 2013. Kee`s GDSSF-K for depression, Spielberger`s STAXI for anger expression and Choi & Kim’s health behavior assessment tool were used. Multiple-mediation analyses using Indirect SPSS macros were performed. Results: Depression had a significant total, direct and indirect effect on HB in both male and female. In women, direct and indirect effect of depression on HB were higher than in men. Specific indirect effects of depression on HB were evidenced via anger-control and anger-out for men and via anger-control and anger-in for women. Among anger expression, anger-control was a more salient mediator for both male and female. Conclusion: Findings suggest that depression and anger-control should be addressed in tandem for promotion of HB for elders. Tailored interventions for the promotion of HB should be developed considering gender of target population.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors that affect nursing students' clinical practice ability. Methods: The data were collected from 303 nursing students who had more than 500 hours of experience in clinical practicum at 4 universities in Seoul and the metropolitan area. The instruments consisted of 27 items of critical thinking, 19 items of professionalism, 40 items of self reported leadership, 20 items of communication evaluation tool, and 61 items of nursing practice performance evaluation. Results: For the clinical practicum, most difficult for nursing students were cardiopulmonary resuscitation, fecal enema, stoma care, and blood transfusion. Clinical practice abilities were positively correlated with nursing professionalism(r=.26, p<.001), leadership (r=.16, p=.007) and critical thinking(r=.12, p=.031). Professionalism(${\beta}=.32$, p=.001) was the most significant factor influencing the clinical practice ability of nursing students. Critical thinking was the second largest factor but not significant(${\beta}=.16$, p=.058). Conclusion: The findings suggest that the nursing curriculum should include nursing knowledge and nursing skills as well as various case-based or field-based decision making training programs to cultivate professionalism, critical thinking and other abilities for clinical practice.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the factors influencing intention of intervening towards elder abuse among nurses in the emergency department. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used. A convenience sample of 209 emergency room nurses working in university hospitals and general hospitals completed the questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis was performed to examine predictors of intention of intervening towards elder abuse. Result: Awareness of elder abuse, legal and institutional knowledge, attitude, subjective norm, and self-efficacy were positively correlated to the intention of intervening towards elder abuse. Factors of the intention of intervening towards elder abuse in emergency room nurses were awareness of elder abuse, followed by subjective norm and attitude. Conclusion: The findings suggest that it is necessary to educate emergency room nurses in order to improve awareness and knowledge of elder abuse. From the nursing practice and hospital organization level, specific interventions and strategies to increase the assessment and intervention of elder abuse are needed.

Aims: This study aimed to analyze the tasks of Korean Medicine (KM) nurses. Methods: The definition and job description of KM nurses were developed through a “developing a curriculum” (DACUM) workshop. DACUM committee consisted of nine nurses from eleven Korean medicine hospitals, two DACUM facilitators and four DACUM coordinators. Twenty five nurses from nine Korean medicine hospitals validated job description established through the workshop. 235 KM nurses from 9 traditional Korean medicine hospitals participated in evaluating frequency, importance and difficulty of the duties and tasks. Questionnaires were sent to those nurses and 225 responses were included for final analysis due to missing data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The jobs of a KM nurse were analyzed into 11 duties and 86 tasks on the DACUM chart. The 11 duties were KM nursing assessment, KM nursing intervention, fundamental nursing intervention, KM therapy management, support for KM therapy, KM nursing education, nursing administration, material management, environment management, professional development, and collaborative role between Korean medicine and Western medicine. Conclusion: We identified various roles of KM nurses and developed a DACUM chart based on their duties and tasks. Phased education programs for KM nurses should be developed by considering frequency, importance and difficulty. In addition, it is necessary to promote unique KM nursing interventions for expanding the roles of KM nurses in the future.
