      • 삼초(三焦)의 '협관계(協關系)' 관점에서 본 측두하악관절(側頭下顎關節)에 대한 고찰

        Objectives : The aim of this study was to try to embody the method of treating Tempromandibular Joint Disorder in Oriental Medicine. Methods : I had researched anatomic features and functions of TMJ, causes and symptoms of TMD and reviewed classic medicine books in Oriental Medicine on Sanjiao. Then, I tried to interpret the disorder in the point of Sanjiao's 'Cooperative Relationship'. Results and Conclusions : 1. Symptoms of TMD IS not limited at TMJ and spread in whole body by circulation of Sanjiaojing. 2. Sanjiao is a invisible organ to control the general physical functions as 'Cooperative Relationship'. 3. It is a due in improving the symptoms of TMD to regulate Sanjiao-Jing-qi and balance the Yin-Yang.

      • FCST의 음양균형장치를 활용 삼차신경통 증례보고

        본 증례에서는 극심한 삼차신경통 진단을 받고 안면부와 턱관절 통증으로 일상생활이 어려워 항간질약과 수술적 치료를 받았지만 통증이 개선되지 않던 환자에게서 음양균형장치를 포함한 자세조절훈련, 침치료 등 구조적 치료를 통해서 유의한 자각적 증상 개선뿐만 아니라 턱관절의 구조적 개선이 나타남을 관찰하였고, 요통과 경항통 및 비염 같은 제반 증상들의 호전과 척추의 구조적 개선이 관찰되었다. Therapeutic effect of Yinyang Balancing Appliance (YBA) of functional cerebrospinal therapy (FCST) for meridian and neurologic yinyang balance was observed in a trigeminal neuralgia case. One Trigeminal neuralgia case was managed with YBA on temporomandibular joint (TMJ), combined with acupuncture. Clinical outcome measurement was performed by subjective rating and clinical observations. The patient's subjective rating and clinical symptoms showed improvement immediately after the initial treatment and this improvement maintained over the follow-up period. Although it is not clear whether the effect is temporary in its nature, a positive effect was observed and further clinical and biological research on FCST is expected.

        KISS1 Gene Polymorphisms in Korean Girls with Central Precocious Puberty

        Kisspeptin/G-protein couple receptor-54 (GPR54) system plays a key role in the activationof the gonadotropic axis at puberty. Central precocious puberty (CPP) is caused by thepremature activation of hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone secretion. Thisstudy was aimed to identify KISS1 gene variations and to investigate the associationsbetween KISS 1 gene variations and CPP in Korean girls. All coding exons of KISS1 genewere sequenced in Korean girls with CPP (n = 143) and their healthy controls (n = 101). Nine polymorphisms were identified in KISS1 gene. A novel single-nucleotidepolymorphism (SNP), 55648176 T/G, was identified for the first time. SNP 55648184 C/Gand 55648186 -/T were detected more frequently in CPP group than in control group. SNP55648176 T/G was detected less frequently in CPP group than in control group. HaplotypeGGGC-ACCC was detected less frequently in CPP group. The genetic variations of KISS1gene can be contributing factors of development of CPP. The association between thegene variations and CPP should be validated by further evidence obtained from largescaledand functional studies.

        소아 대상 혈액배양검사 현황 파악을 위한 국내 다기관 설문조사

        Purpose: Blood culture is an essential diagnostic tool and requires clear indications, proper techniques, and quality control. We aimed to investigate whether blood cultures in children are appropriate for indications, are performed correctly, and receive proper quality control. Methods: We conducted an online survey targeting pediatric infectious diseases (ID) specialists working in general hospitals and neonatologists (Neo) working at hospitals operating a neonatal intensive care unit in Korea. Results: Approximately 81.1% (30/37) of pediatric ID specialists and 72.2% (52/72) of Neo responded to the survey. Some of the respondents (33.3% of ID and 59.6% of Neo) performed blood culture as a regular test irrespective of the indication. Approximately 40% of ID and 65.4% of Neo ordered only one set of blood culture in patients suspected with bacteremia. The most commonly used disinfectant for skin preparation was povidone-iodine, while the skin preparation method varied by institution. Approximately two-thirds of the institutions were monitoring the blood culture contamination rate, whereas relatively few provided staff with feedback on that rate. In addition, less than half of the institutions were providing regular staff training on blood culture (40% of ID and 28.8% of Neo). Conclusions: The indication and methods of blood culture for children varied according to institution, and few hospitals exert effort in improving the quality of blood culture. Institutions have to strive constantly toward improvement of blood culture quality and evidence-based recommendations for pediatric blood cultures should be standardized.

        Effects of Hydraulic Retention Time on Hydrogen Production

        연속반응조에서의 수소생산에 대한 수리학적체류시간(희석율, D)의 영향을 $1\%$ sucrose를 함유한 $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ 조건에서 조사하였다. 실험결과 수리학적체류시간(희석율)의 각각의 조건에 따라 생성된 가스중 수소성분은 $50~71\%$의 범위로 발생되었다. $H_2/CO_2$ 비율은 희석율이 증가할 때 $H_2/CO_2$ 비율도 증가하였다. 최대수소생성 수율은 희석율 0.14 l/h까지는 증가하다가 이후에는 감소하였고, 수소생성 수율은 0.81 l/g sucrose이었다. Acetate 생성 수율은 butyrate생성 수율 보다 희석율 조건변화에 민감하게 변화하였다. propionate 및 solvents는 희석율 변화에 영향을 받지 않았다 biomass 수율은 희석율이 0.2 l/h 까지는 증가하였으나, 그 이상의 조건에서는 감소하였다.

        A549세포에 대한 목향추출물의 ROS 매개 세포독성

        Objectives : Many cancers acquired resistance to chemotherapy, thus limiting its anticancer efficacy. It is known that Glutathione (GSH) is related to the development of drug resistance. The expression of GSH synthesizing glutamylcysteine ligase (GCL) was controlled by nuclear factor-E2-related factor(Nrf2). Previous studies showed that pharmacological depletion of GSH results in ROS increase, apoptotic response, and sensitization to oxidizing stimuli. In the current study, we examined Saussurea Lappa (SL) have the inhibitory effect on Nrf2 activity using human lung cancer A549 cells overexpressing Nrf2. Methods : Cell viability of A549 cells on SL treatment was determined by MTT assay. To detect the apeptosis in SL-treated A549 cells, sub-G1 population was measured by flow cytometry analysis (FACS). The level ROS was determined by FACS and fluorescence microscopy. To investigate whether SL have effect the suppression on Nrf2, we performed western blotting analysis. The GSH content was measured since GSH plays an important role in response to oxidative stress and was regulated by Nrf2. Results : A549 cells treated with an SL extract showed a substantial decrease in cell viability, along with a concomitant increase in apoptosis compared to untreated cells. Treatment of the SL extract led to increased Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and a suppression of Nrf2. In addition, the antioxidant NAC attenuated SL-induced ROS generation, Nrf2 inhibition, and apoptosis. Taken together, these data show that the SL extract induced the production of ROS, and the inhibition of Nrf2, consequently resulting in A549 cell death. Conclusions : These results suggest that SL might be an effective agent to enhance anticancer drug sensitivity via Nrf2 inhibition.

        Chilled water temperature set-point reset based on outdoor air temperature and its cooling energy performance in an office building

        In this study, the cooling energy performance of two strategies for controlling ChWT (chilled water temperature) are compared: the conventional control strategy of constantly fixing ChWT and the OAT (outdoor air temperature) compensation control strategy that adjusts ChWT according to the changes in OAT. OAT compensation control strategy was modeled and realized based on Appendix G of ASHRAE Standard 90.1. It was confirmed that applying OAT compensation control strategy can significantly reduce chiller energy consumption, which accounts for the largest portion of total cooling energy consumption. It was found that the difference in total cooling energy consumption between applying the conventional control of constantly fixing ChWT to 6 °C and applying the OAT compensation control was approximately 8 % and 3 % during spring (March to May) and summer (June to August), respectively. Additionally, during the fall (September-November) period, about 7 % of total cooling energy consumption could be saved.
