현실적으로 다속성 의사결정(Multi-Attribute Decision-Making;MADM)문제들은 대안과 속성의 수가 매우 많은 것이 보통이기 때문에 이것을 모두 합리적으로 고려하여 최적의 대안을 선정한다는 것은 매우 어려운 일이다. 지금까지 연구·개발된 기존의 수리적 방법들은 주어진 문제에 대한 제약을 가하여 최적해(optimal solution)를 구할 수 있지만 의사결정자들의 입장을 정확히 반영하지 못하는 경우가 대부분이며, 이를 개선하기 위한 기존의 대화형 접근방법은 고려해야 할 대안과 속성의 수가 많아지면 대안 간의 쌍비교등을 통하여 의사결정자가 제공해야 하는 정보의 양이 기하급수적으로 증가한다는 어려움과 함께 최적해가 보장되지 못하는 문제점이 있다. 따라서, 본 연구의 목적은 대안과 속성의 수가 매우 큰 의사결정상황 하에서 의사결정자가 중요하다고 생각하는 속성의 그룹부터 단계적으로 고려해 가면서 대안의 수를 점차적으로 감소시킬 수 있는 보다 효율적인 대화형 접근방법을 구축하는데 있다.

The purpose of this paper is to compare a Utility/Value Function(UVF) model with a Fuzzy Choquet's Integral(FCI) model, which are designed to find out optimal preferred solutions for Multi-Attribute Decision-Making(MADM) problems with many attributes and alternatives. The basic idea of these models is essentially subgrouping of attributes and successively eliminating inefficient solutions. But the difference between these two models lies in the fact that the UVF model is based upon pairwise comparisons of alternatives and the FCI model is based upon decision-maker's judgements about the relative importance of subgroups of attributes. However, in the UVF model, the transitivity should be maintained in the preference comparison of alternatives that are given. In the FCI model, the degree of preferential dependence on the attributes should, also, be obtained accurately.

This paper proposes a systematic approach to reduce the number of alternatives in the deterministic Multi-Attribute Decision-Making(MADM) through progressive finite stages. In the paper, it is assumed that there are mutual preferential independences between attribute groups and preferential dependences in an attribute group. The paper also suggests that the number of alternatives would be reduced using the concepts of independency, cutting range, and sub-ideal solution. After concerning some important attributes, if there are more than one alternative, additional considerations are performed for the other attributes that decision-maker did not consider in the previous stages. As a result, by grouping attributes, the proposed approach in this paper provides a faster solution for convergency than conventional ones.

A cylindrical proton exchange membrane fuel cell with an integrated metal-hydride container (PEMFC-IM) is developed for portable applications such as cell phones or laptop computers. In order to prevent the cylindrical PEMFC from overheating at a high current density, a direct heat exchange method, through contact with metal-hydride, is used. A polarization curve and a long-term performance test are performed, both with and without the heat-exchange effect. The maximum power density of the PEMFC-IM is 275 mW cm-2, which is approximately 31% higher than the previous system without an integrated hydride storage system. The gas diffusion layer (GDL) temperature also decreases at the high current density. The heat exchange effect of the PEMFC-IM is shown more clearly in the long-term performance tests.
Comparison of CW Pumping and Quasi-CW Pumping for a Passively Q-switched Nd:YAG Laser

A passively Q-switched 1064-nm laser pulse was generated when a quasi-cw laser diode beam with a pulsewidth of several hundreds of microseconds pumped a Nd:YAG crystal. A Cr:YAG crystal was used as a saturable absorber. The temporal delay between the onset of the laser diode pump and the Q-switched output pulse was studied as a function of the initial transmission of Cr:YAG for several output couplers with different reflectivities. By pumping the Nd:YAG laser with a quasi-cw laser diode, we could actively control the pulse repetition rate of the passively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Also, the temporal jitter of the Q-switched pulse for the cw-laser-diode-umped case could be reduced by using quasi-cw pumping. The temporal width and the peak power of the Q-switched pulse for the quasi-cw-pumped case were compared with those for the cw-laser-diode-pumped case.

The purpose of this paper is to propose an interactive method, which is designed to select the optimal preferred alternative for the MLDM(Multiple-the Larger-the better type Decision-Making) proble- ms with the-larger-the-better quality characteristics. The basic idea of the paper is essentially to eliminate inefficient alternative based on the concept of Taguchi Signal-to-Noise Ratio and the cutting range instead of using UVF(Utility/Value Function) on the group of attributes that can be considered importantly by the decision makers. As a result, the method proposed in the paper for MLDM problems can be significant in that the change of characteristics is transformed into the size of Signal-to-Noise Ratio, which can be relatively easy to understand by decision makers.
