The amphiphilic polymers poly(Vinyl pyrrolidone-co-Methyl methacrylate) (P(VP-co-MMA)) showing LCST behavior having different VP/MMA contents (95:5, 94:6, 92.5:7.5 (mol/mol)) were produced by a free radical polymerization. LCST behavior was confirmed by measuring the O.D (Optical density) value due to temperature change from 20°C to 50°C using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The surface tension with the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity ratio of the copolymer was measured through a ring method. P(VP-co-MMA) micelle was prepared using a swelling method. The sphere of micelles was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the average and standard deviation of the micelle diameter were measured using an image analysis program. Release with time lapse at 23.5, 37, 45°C and the critical micelle concentration was evaluated by fluorescence spectroscopy using nile red as a probe.
High-precision Estimate of the Critical Exponents for the Directed Ising Universality Class
박수찬 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.3
With extensive Monte Carlo simulations, we present high-precision estimates of the critical exponents of branching annihilating random walks with two offspring, a prototypical model of the directed Ising universality class in one dimension. To estimate the exponents accurately, we propose a systematic method to find corrections to scaling whose leading behavior is supposed to take the form <i>t</i>−χ in the long-time limit at the critical point. Our study shows that χ ∽ 0.75 for the number of particles in defect simulations and χ = 0.5 for other measured quantities, which should be compared with the widely used value of χ = 1. Using χ so obtained, we analyze the effective exponents to find that β/υ|| = 0.2872(2), <i>z</i> = 1.7415(5), η = 0.0000(2), and accordingly, β/υ|| = 0.5000(6). Our numerical results for β/υ┴ and z are clearly different from the conjectured rational numbers β/υ┴ = 2/7 ∽ 0.2857, <i>z</i> = 7 4 = 1.75 by Jensen [Phys. Rev. E, <b>50</b>, 3623 (1994)]. Our result for β/υ┴, however, is consistent with 1/2 , which is believed to be exact.

Reduction-responsive microspheres which composed of alginate and thiolated TEMPO-modified cellulose nanofiber (Th-TCNF) were prepared using a spray-dried method and an oxidizing agent (e.g. dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)). TCNF was prepared by thiolation by covalent bonding of cysteamine to cellulose nanofibers. This was demonstrated by 1H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. IPN microspheres obtained by crosslinking were likely to have less indentation on the surface. The results of the images taken through energy dispersive spectroscopy confirmed that alginate and Th-TCNF were cross-linked and revealed that the disulfide bonds tended towards the surface of the microspheres. The disulfide bond of IPN microspheres is reduced and the bond is broken, resulting in reduction-responsive drug release. The higher the Th-TCNF content, the more sensitive it was to reduction.

Despite of safety issues related to radiological hazards, 31 countries around the world are operating more than 450 nuclear power plants (NPPs). To operate NPPs safely, safety regulations from radiation protection organizations were developed and adopted in many countries. However, many cases of radionuclide releases at foreign NPPs have been reported. Almost all commercial NPPs routinely release radioactive materials to the surrounding environments as liquid and gas phases under control. These releases are called 'planned releases' which are planned, regularly monitored, and well documented. Meanwhile, the releases focused in this review, called 'unplanned releases', are neither planned nor monitored by regulatory and/or protection organizations. NPPs are generally composed of various structures, systems and components (SSCs) for safety. Among them, the SSCs near reactors are closely related to safety of NPPs, and typically fabricated to comply with stringent requirements. However, some non-safety related SSCs such as underground pipes may be constructed only according to commercial standards, causing the leakage of radioactive fluids usually containing tritium ($^3H$). This paper discusses SSCs of NPPs and introduces several cases of unplanned releases at foreign NPPs. The current regulation on the environmental radiological surveillance and assessment around the NPPs in South Korea are also examined.
