        관개용 저수지 농업용수의 국가 전과정 목록분석 데이터베이스 구축

        The objective of the study is to develop life cycle inventory (LCI) database of dam, a major facility for irrigation water supply. The types of database developed are three out of nine dams according to the size of the wate r storage capacity: two kinds larger than 500,000 $m^3$ depending on gate for discharging (Type 1) and the other dam smaller than 500,000 $m^3$ (Type 2). According to the LCI analysis, type 1 larger than 500,000 $m^3$ storage capacity with gate has the lowest environment impact in the 6 impact categories. The impact of the type 1 accounts for 7~35 % of the type 2 for supplying irrigation water. Comparing with the environment impacts of water for other uses such as drinking and industrial water, the impacts of 1 $m^3$ irrigation water supply is 4~45 % of the one for industrial water supply and 1~16 % of the drinking water's. The three types of LCI DB on the irrigation water by dams will be useful in the application of Life Cycle Assessment in agricultural products and environmental labelling including carbon footprint since it is complied to the guidelines of LCI DB constr uction issued by Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Knowledge Economy.

        급가감속 운전에 따른 듀얼 모노리스형 촉매변환기 내의 유동 균일도와 압력 강하에 관한 수치적 연구

        The conversion efficiency, durability and pressure drop of the automotive exhaust catalysts are dependent on the flow distribution within the substrate. Conventional porous medium approaches assuming monolith resistance based on the one-dimensional laminar flow for simulating the flow through the automotive exhaust catalysts over-predict the flow uniformity in the monolith. In this study, additional pressure loss is also considered by accounting for entrance effects due to the oblique flow incident on the front face of monolith as a consequence of flow separation and recirculation within the diffuser. The incorporation of an additional pressure loss improves the predictions for the maximum flow velocity within the substrate. An numerical study has also been conducted for the three-dimensional unsteady incompressible non-reacting flow inside various dual-monolith catalytic converters for the rapid acceleration/deceleration driving.

        Survival Motor Neuron 유전자 Exon 7과 8 부위가 결실된 제1형 척수성 근위축증 1례

        Spinal muscular atrophy(SMA) is a genetic disorder of the motor neurons that cause muscular weakness and muscular atrophy due to anterior horn cell degeneration. Classic spinal muscular atrophy patient is caused by mutation in the chromosome 5(q11.2-q13.3), and the majority of the patient shows homozygous deletion of the telomeric survival motor neuron(SMN) gene in the chromosome 5. Deletion of exon 7 and 8 of the SMN gene and deletion of exon 4 and 5 of the neuronal apoptosis inhibitory protein(NAIP) are typically observed in SMA patients. The SMN protein plays a role in an essential cell metabolism process, the splicing of pre mRNA in the spliceosomes. We report a 7 month old male with SMA. He showed rapidly aggrdvatial muscular weakness and died at 7 months. His DNA analysis proved deletion of exon 7 and 8 of the telomeric copy of the SMN gene. 저자들은 survival motor neuron 유전자의 exon 7, 8 부위가 결실된 척수성 근위축증 환아 1례를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

      • Twofish 알고리즘을 이용한 저용량 암호화 Chip의 모듈설계

        Twofish 알고리즘은 작은 부피의 로직, Triple-DES보다 강력한 암호화 레벨, 암호화 속도 등을 갖추어 모듈 설계 알고리즘으로 선정하였다. Twofish 알고리즘은 bitwired-XOR, Permutation, S-box, MDS, PHT를 걸치는 H함수를 각기 다른 키로 반복 라운드를 함으로써 대상 데이타를 암호화 한다. 64~256bit의 키 크기와 라운딩 횟수를 조정하여 모듈의 부피나 처리속도를 유동성 있게 조절할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 하드웨어 기기와 응용에 사용하기 위하여 VHDL 모듈로 알고리즘을 설계하고 그 동작을 검증하였다. 구현된 회로는 기존의 방법에 비하여 파이프라인 단계를 적용하므로써 약 23%의 속도 향상을 얻을 수 있었다.

        수막 자극 증상이 있는 환아의 뇌척수액에서 β₂ Microglobulin의 농도

        목적 : 수막 자극증상이 있는 환아에서 뇌척수액의 백혈구 수만으로 수막염을 진단하기 어려운 경우에 뇌척수액에서 β₂ microglobulin의 농도 측정이 수막염 진단에 유용한지를 알아보고자 본 연구를 시행하였다. 방법 : 2002년 3월부터 2002년 8월까지 충남대 학교병원 소아과에 두통과 구토를 주소로 방문 후 수막 자극증상이 있는 35명의 소아(남 19명, 여 16명) 중에서 수막염으로 진단받은 소아 20명(남 10명, 여 10명)과 수막증으로 진단받은 소아 15명(남 9명, 여 6명)과 정상 비교군 12명(남 7명, 여 5명)의 뇌척수액을 채칠 후 즉시 영하 20도에서 동결 건조를 시킨 후 Competitive RIA method, Coated tube method를 이용하여 Daiichi사의 SPAC-S β₂Micro Kit로 β₂microg1obulin 농도를 측정하였다. 결과 : 대상 환아들의 평균 나이는 수막염군은 7.45±2.7세, 수막증군은 5.5±2.5세, 정상 비교군은 8.25±3.62세이었다. 뇌척수액의 β₂ mnicroglobulin 농도는 수막염군은 0.193±0.054 mg/dL, 수막증군은 0.169±0.028 mg/dL, 정상비교군은 0.102±0.021 mg/dL로 측정되었다. 정상 비교군과 비교하여 수막염군과 수막증군의 β₂ microglobulin 농도는 유의하게(P<0.05) 증가하였으나 수막염군과 수막증군 사이에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 결론 : 수막 자극 증상을 보이면서 뇌척수액 소견상 백혈구가 정상인 환아에서 뇌척수액내의 β₂microglobulin의 농도가 증가되어 있다면 지속적인 관찰과 추적 뇌척수액 검사가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. Purpose : A clinical diagnosis of meningitis is difficult because of the paucity of physical findings in children. Not all of the meningitis patients show nuchal rigidity, Kernig´s sign or Brudzinski´s sign. Lumbar punctures were done because of unexplained fever, changes in behavioral or mental status, seizures or skin petechiae in febrile patients. But sometimes cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) findings are not compatible with menigitis for those whose clinical symptoms indicate menigitis. Pediatricians are frequently confronted to the problem of a sick child whose CSF has no white blood cells but the child has a meningeal irritation sign. Therefore, the levels of CSF β₂ microglobulin from children with positive meinigeal irritation signs were examined to evaluate the diagnosis of meinigitis. Methods : From March to August 2002, We examined the levels of CSF β₂ microglobulin from children with positive meningeal irritation signs by competitive radioimmunoassay in 35 suspected meingitis patients and 12 control patients in the Department of Pediatrics of Chungnam National University Hospital. Results : In 35 suspected menigitis patients, 20 patients were diagnosed as meningitis and 15 patients were no evidence of meningitis in their CSF findings. In the WBC counts of the CSF, meinigitis patients had 268/mm³ and meningismus patient had 2.3/ mm³ on average. In the levels of the CSF β₂ microglobulin concentrations, the two groups were not different. For the 20 meningitis patiens, the average value was 0.193± 0.054 while it was 0.169±0.028 for the 15 meningismus patients and 0.102±0.021 for the 12 control patients(P<0.05, P<0.05, P>0.05) Conclusion : These data demonstrate that the meningeal irritation sign is a meaningful sign for meningitis but the initial CSF findings do not always confirm the diagnosis. So, if patients have a meningeal irritation sign, the patient should be carefully examined and additional diagnostic tools such as the CSF β₂ microglobulin concentration can be used.

        Laser melting problems with deformed substrates are investigated by axisymmetric numerical simulations.<br/> Source-based method is used to solve the energy equation, and the momentum equations are solved in the<br/> liquid domain with SIMPLER algorithm. Using a laser beam with a top-hat heat flux distribution, this study is<br/> performed to examine the effect of surface deformation, beam power density and surface tension force on the<br/> melt pool during laser melting. Surface temperature decreases with increasing surface deformation, while<br/> surface velocity increases. It is found that surface deformation, beam power density and surface tension force<br/> have a very significant effect on heat transfer and fluid flow during laser melting.

        The main and side reactions of the three selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reactions with ammonia over a vanadium-based catalyst have been investigated using synthetic gas mixtures in the 170-590℃ T-range. The three SCR reactions are standard SCR with pure NO, fast SCR with an equimolar mixture of NO and NO₂, and NO₂ SCR with pure NO₂. The selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia and the formation of nitrous oxide compete with the SCR reactions at the high temperatures. Water strongly inhibits the selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia and the formation of nitrous oxide, thus increasing the selectivity of the SCR reactions. However, the presence of water inhibits the SCR activity, most pronounced at low temperatures. In this study, the experimental results are analyzed by means of a dynamic 1D isothermal heterogeneous plug-flow reactor (PFR) model according to the Eley-Rideal mechanism.

        The aim of this study is to evaluate the environmental impacts of irrigation facilities using a Life Cycle Assessment tool and to compare two different types of water resources, dam and pumping station suppling 78% of irrigation water in Korea. Study facilities, Idong reservoir and Eunsan pumping station, are located in Ansung-Si, Gyeonggi-Do. Life cycle impact methodology used in the study is Eco-indicator99(E) to assess the environmental impacts of 1 ㎥ of agricultural water supply. This case study is a preliminary work to evaluate environmental impacts associated with water use in the boundary of the existing life cycle impact assessment method. The functional unit for comparison can be defined as a 1.5 billion ㎥ to supply irrigation water to the paddy field of 2,156 ha for 70 years. As a result of LCA of reservoir, most of environmental impact is derived from the use of construction materials in the construction stage like concrete and cement. Electricity consumption is a key issues of pumping station in the operation stage due to the fossil fuel use. It can be said that dam seems to be a more sustainable facility than the pumping station in the 70-year life cycle of this study excluding ecological impacts, depending on geological condition in Korea, though there is no consideration of land use and ecological impacts by inundation.

      • 디젤엔진의 NO<SUB>x</SUB> 저감을 위한 SCR DeNO<SUB>x</SUB> 촉매의 정상 및 비정상 성능해석

        The steady- and unsteady-state kinetics of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH₃ has been investigated over a commercial V₂O?/TiO₂ catalyst. In order to account for the influence of transport effects the kinetics are coupled with a fully transient two-phase 1D+1D monolith channel model. The Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) and Modified Redox (MR) mechanisms are adopted to describe the steady-state kinetic behavior of the V₂O?/TiO₂ catalyst, and their results are compared with each other. A Temkin-type kinetics is used to describe the ammonia adsorption/desorption rate. The reaction rate expressions are based on previously reported papers and are modified to fit the experimental data. The steady-state chemical reaction schemes used in the present mathematical model have been validated extensively with experimental data over a wide range of reaction temperatures.
