        Tiul1 and TGIF are Involved in Downregulation of TGFβ1-induced IgA Isotype Expression

        TGF-β1 is well known to induce Ig germ-line α (GLα) transcription and subsequent IgA isotype class switching recombination (CSR). Homeodomain protein TG-interacting factor (TGIF) and E3-ubiquitin ligases TGIF interacting ubiquitin ligase 1 (Tiul1) are implicated in the negative regulation of TGF-β signaling. In the present study, we investigated the roles of Tiul1 and TGIF in TGFβ1-induced IgA CSR. We found that over-expression of Tiul1 decreased TGFβ1-induced GLα promoter activity and strengthened the inhibitory effect of Smad7 on the promoter activity. Likewise, overexpression of TGIF also diminished GLα promoter activity and further strengthened the inhibitory effect of Tiul1, suggesting that Tiul1 and TGIF can down-regulate TGFβ1- induced GLα expression. In parallel, overexpression of Tiul1 decreased the expression of endogenous IgA CSR-predicitive transcripts (GLTα, PSTα, and CTα) and TGFβ1-induced IgA secretion, but not GLTγ3 and IgG3 secretion. Here, over-expressed TGIF further strengthened the inhibitory effect of Tiul1. These results suggest that Tiul1 and TGIF act as negatively regulators in TGFβ1-induced IgA isotype expression.         High Level Physical Activity and Prevalence of Cardiovascular Disease Using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Data, 2007-2013

        Objectives: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the association between the intensity of physical activity (PA) and prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) using Korean representative data. Methods: We analyzed 39 804 participant data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2007-2013. Exposure variable was three levels of PA (low, medium, and high) in a week, and outcome variable was prevalence of CVD based on patient self-recognition and doctor’s diagnosis. Complex logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between level of PA and CVD adjusted by body mass index, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus, stress recognition, household income, smoking, and current drinking. The indices of association w ere estimated as crude prevalence odds ratio (POR), adjusted POR, and their 95% confidence interval (CI). All statistical analyzes were performed using complex sample analysis procedure of the SPSS version 23.0. Results: When all variables were adjusted, only high level PA in women showed a significant association with stroke (adjusted POR by patient’s self-recognition, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.32 to 0.99, adjusted POR by doctor’s diagnosis, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.34 to 0.87) and CVD (adjusted POR by doctor’s diagnosis, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.48 to 0.96). Conclusions: High level PA in women has a significant reverse association with prevalence of stroke and CVD in Korea. Further study for elucidating the mechanism will be needed.

        생애주기비용을 고려한 성능기반 교량 최적 유지관리 전략 수립 시스템 개발

        본 연구에서는 생애주기비용을 고려한 성능기반 최적 유지관리 전략 수립 시스템을 개발하였다. 교량 수명동안 비용과 성능이라는 상반되는 목적을 균형있게 만족시킬 수 있는 유지관리 시나리오의 생성을 다중목적 조합최적화 문제로 정식화하고 유전자알고리즘을 적용하였다. 개발된 프로그램을 이용하여 국도 상 강거더 교량의 최적 유지관리 시나리오를 제공하는 과정을 제시하였다. 개발된 시스템은 현재의 교량 유지관리 전략 수립의 방법을 개선하여 교량 관리주체에게 다양한 제약 및 요구조건에 부합하는 최적의 교량 유지관리 시나리오를 제공할 수 있는 효율적인 도구로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. In this study, a bridge maintenance system is developed to generate performance-based optimum maintenance strategy by considering the life-cycle cost. A multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem is formulated to generate a tradeoff maintenance scenarios which satisfies the balance among the conflicting objectives such as the performance and cost during the bridge lifetime and a genetic algorithm is applied to the system. By using the developed program, this study proposes a process of optimum maintenance scenario applying to the steel girder bridge of national road. The developed system improves the current methods of establishing the bridge maintenance strategy and can be utilized as an efficient tool to provide the optimum bridge maintenance scenario corresponding to the various constraints and requirements of bridge agency.

        Red Ginseng Extract Promotes the Hair Growth in Cultured Human Hair Follicles

        Ginseng has been shown to promote hair growth in several recent studies. However, its effects on human hair follicles and its mechanisms of action have not been sufficiently elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the hair growthpromoting effects of red ginseng extract (RGE) and its ginsenosides. The proliferative activities of cultured human hair follicles treated with RGE and ginsenoside-Rb1 were assessed using Ki-67 immunostaining. Their effects on isolated human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) were evaluated using cytotoxicity assays, immunoblot analysis of signaling proteins, and the determination of associated growth factors. We examined the ability of RGE and ginsenosides to protect hair matrix keratinocyte proliferation against dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-induced suppression and their effects on the expression of androgen receptor. The in vivo hair growth-promoting effect of RGE was also investigated in C57BL/6 mice. Both RGE and ginsenoside-Rb1 enhanced the proliferation of hair matrix keratinocytes. hDPCs treated with RGE or ginsenoside-Rb1 exhibited substantial cell proliferation and the associated phosphorylation of ERK and AKT. Moreover, RGE, ginsenoside-Rb1, and ginsenoside-Rg3 abrogated the DHT-induced suppression of hair matrix keratinocyte proliferation and the DHT-induced upregulation of the mRNA expression of androgen receptor in hDPCs. Murine experiments revealed that the subcutaneous injection of 3% RGE resulted in more rapid hair growth than the negative control. In conclusion, RGE and its ginsenosides may enhance hDPC proliferation, activate ERK and AKT signaling pathways in hDPCs, upregulate hair matrix keratinocyte proliferation, and inhibit the DHT-induced androgen receptor transcription. These results suggest that red ginseng may promote hair growth in humans.

        국가대표 태권도 선수들의 경기결과에 따른 심리상태에 관한 질적 연구

        이 연구는 태권도 선수들의 심리상태에 대해서 파악하고 확인하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이에 대해서 소수 특정계층 인 국가대표 태권도 선수들 전원을 대상으로 경기에 임하면서 느꼈던 심리상태를 구체적으로 파악하고 심층적 분석을 실시하였고, 그 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 선수 개인이 잘했다고 생각되는 경기에서의 인지하고 있는 심리적 상태를 분석한 결과, 먼저 남자선수의 경우 원 자료는 총 17개로 나타났고, 7개의 세부영역과 6개의 일반영역으 로 분류되었으며, 일반영역의 불안조절을 가장 많이 설명하였다. 여자선수의 경우, 원 자료는 총 11개로 나타났고, 세부 영역 9개, 일반영역 7개로 나타났다. 구체적으로 불안조절과 컨디션 좋고 나쁨, 불안감 유무, 집중력을 가장 많이 설명 하였다. 둘째, 선수 개인이 못했다고 생각되는 경기에서의 인지하고 있는 심리적 상태를 분석한 결과, 남자선수의 경우 원 자료 17개로 나타났고, 세부영역 10개, 일반영역 9개로 분류되었으며, 구체적으로 컨디션 좋고 나쁨을 가장 많이 설 명하였고, 여자선수의 경우, 원 자료는 총 10개로 나타났고, 8개의 세부영역과, 6개의 일반영역으로 분류되었으며 구체 적으로 컨디션 저하를 가장 많이 설명하였다. 태권도 경기기술이 상향평준화 되어가는 현 시점에서 종주국의 자긍심을 회복하고 최상의 경기력을 발휘하기 위해 지속적인 연구가 필요하다고 판단된다. This research aimed at comprehending and confirming Taekwondo players’ mental state. On this, this research concretely comprehended mental state of all National Taekwondo team players, a specific class, and conducted an in-depth analysis, as the result, this research concluded as follows. First, as the result of analyzing mental state that each individual player recognized their play excellent, the original result of male players appeared total 17 units, which were classified into 7 detailed areas and 6 general areas, and anxiety regulation of general area was explained the best. In case of female players, the original result appeared total 11 units, detailed areas 9 and general areas 7. Concretely, anxiety regulation, state of condition, whether of anxiety, and concentration were explained the most. Second, as the result of analyzing mental state that each individual player perceived their play poor, male players displayed 17, i.e. 10 detailed areas and 9 general areas, concretely, explained the state of condition the most, and in case of female players, the original materials appeared total 10, i.e. 8 detailed areas and 6 general areas, concretely, deterioration of condition was explained the most. The researcher determined that continuous researches to recover the pride of origination country are necessary to exert the best athletic performance at the present point of upward leveling of Taekwondo game technique.
