S-215 : Impact of Smoking on Clinical Outcomes in Female Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

Background/Aims: Cigarette smoking has been recognized as an important threat to women`s health. We investigated the impact of smoking on the long term outcomes in Korean female patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: Out of AMI patients who were enrolled Korean AMI Registry (KAMIR), 4,444 female patients included in this study. Patients were divided into three groups-non-smoker, current-smoker, past-smoker-according to cigarette smoking status. We compared the incidences and clinical outcomes during in-hospital mortality and major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including cardiac death, re-infarction, coronary artery bypass grafting, heart failure requiring re-hospitalization, and target lesion revascularization during one year clinical follow up between three groups. Results: BMI was higher in the non-smoker group than in the smoker group. Also, the non-smoker group had more patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Left ventricular ejection fraction was not significantly different. However, the levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low density lipoprotein cholesterol were higher in the current-smoker group. The in-hospital mortality was significantly higher in the smoker group (1.0% vs. 2.4% vs. 2.6%, p=0.002), and cardiac death during 12 months clinical follow-up was significantly more in the smoker group (2.3% vs. 4.3% vs. 5.1%, p=0.003). Total MACE during 12 months were higher in the smoker group (5.5% vs. 7.5% vs. 10.3%, p=0.007). Conclusions: Female smoker with acute myocardial infarction showed higher in-hospital mortality rates and MACE rates during one-year clinical follow-up period.

<P>Internet of things recently emerges as a common platform and service for consumer electronics. This paper presents an interactive framework of visualizing and authoring IoT in indoor environments such as home or small office. Building blocks of the framework are virtual sensors and actuators that abstract physical things and their virtual behaviors on top of their physical networks. Their behaviors are abstracted and programmed through visual authoring tools on the web, which allows a casual consumer to easily monitor and define their behaviors even without knowing the underlying physical connections. The user study performed to assess the usability of the visual authoring showed that the visual authoring is easy to use, understandable, and also preferred to typical text-based script programming.</P>

Background: Ginsenoside Rg3, a primary bioactive component of red ginseng, has anti-cancer effects. However, the effects of Rg3-enriched ginseng extract (Rg3RGE) on apoptosis and autophagy in breastcancer have not yet been investigated. In the present study, we explored the anti-tumor effects ofRg3RGE on breast cancer cells stimulated CoCl2, a mimetic of the chronic hypoxic response, and determinedthe operative mechanisms of action. Methods: The inhibitory mechanisms of Rg3RGE on breast cancer cells, such as apoptosis, autophagy andROS levels, were detected both in vitro. To determine the anti-cancer effects of Rg3RGE in vivo, the cancerxenograft model was used. Results: Rg3RGE suppressed CoCl2-induced spheroid formation and cell viability in 3D culture of breastcancer cells. Rg3RGE promoted apoptosis by increasing cleaved caspase 3 and cleaved PARP anddecreasing Bcl2 under the hypoxia mimetic conditions. Further, we identified that Rg3RGE promotedapoptosis by inhibiting lysosomal degradation of autophagosome contents in CoCl2-induced autophagy. We further identified that Rg3RGE-induced apoptotic cell death and autophagy inhibition was mediatedby increased intracellular ROS levels. Similarly, in the in vivo xenograft model, Rg3RGE induced apoptosisand inhibited cell proliferation and autophagy. Conclusion: Rg3RGE-stimulated ROS production promotes apoptosis and inhibits protective autophagyunder hypoxic conditions. Autophagosome accumulation is critical to the apoptotic effects of Rg3RGE. The in vivo findings also demonstrate that Rg3RGE inhibits breast cancer cell growth, suggesting thatRg3RGE has potential as potential as a putative breast cancer therapeutic

최근 스마트폰 사용이 빠른 속도로 늘어나고 있다. 사용자의 연령층도 다양해지고 애플리케이션의 종류와 범위도 확장되고 있다. 가계부 애플리케이션은 초창기부터 꾸준히 개발되어 왔지만 아직 부족한 면이 많다. 기본적인 소비 패턴 분석과 그래프를 통한 피드백은 대부분의 가계부 애플리케이션이 제공하고 있으나 한계가 있다. 또한 모든 연령층에 대한 고려는 찾아보기 힘들다. 본 논문은 현 가계부 애플리케이션이 갖추지 못한 기능인 음성 인식 입력 지출 유형 분석 및 개선방향 제시 PDF 파일 생성을 통한 스마트폰과 PC간의 상호작용을 중점으로 기반 기술에 대해 서술한다. 개발된 애플리케이션은 사용하기 쉬운 UI와 위젯을 통하여 사용자의 편의를 제공한다.

Using a mutant of Mycobacterium smegmatis lacking the major aa3 cytochrome c oxidase of the electron transport chain (Δaa3), we demonstrated that inhibition of the respiratory electron transport chain led to an increase in antibiotic resistance of M. smegmatis to isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol, and tetracycline. The alternative sigma factors SigB and SigE were shown to be involved in an increase in rifampicin resistance of M. smegmatis induced under respiration-inhibitory conditions. As in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, SigE and SigB form a hierarchical regulatory pathway in M. smegmatis through SigE-dependent transcription of sigB. Expression of sigB and sigE was demonstrated to increase in the Δaa3 mutant, leading to upregulation of the SigB-dependent genes in the mutant. The phoU2 (MSMEG_1605) gene implicated in a phosphatesignaling pathway and the MSMEG_1097 gene encoding a putative glycosyltransferase were identified to be involved in the SigB-dependent enhancement of rifampicin resistance observed for the Δaa3 mutant of M. smegmatis. The significance of this study is that the direct link between the functionality of the respiratory electron transport chain and antibiotic resistance in mycobacteria was demonstrated for the first time using an electron transport chain mutant rather than inhibitors of electron transport chain.

Despite recent significant performance improvements, the iterative process of machine-learning algorithms makes development and utilization difficult and time-consuming. In this paper, we present a data-selection method that reduces the time required by providing an approximate solution . First, data are mapped to a feature vector in latent space based on an Autoencoder, with high weight given to data with high learning contribution that are relatively difficult to learn. Finally, data are ranked and selected based on weight and used for training. Experimental results showed that the proposed method selected data that achieve higher performance than random sampling.
