Chronic hypernutrition and lack of physical activity promote lipid accumulation in the white adipose tissue, and excessive lipid accumulation leads to obesity. An increase in the number and size of adipocytes, a characteristic of obesity, is closely associated with adipose dysfunction. Recent in vitro and in vivo studies have proven that probiotics may prevent this dysfunction by regulating lipid metabolism. However, the mechanisms of action of probiotics in obesity are not fully understood, and hence, their usage for treating obesity remains limited. In this study, Bifidobacterium lactis IDCC 4301 was selected for its anti-obesity potential after evaluating inhibitory activity of pancreatic lipase and cholesterol reducing activity. Next, we investigated the roles of B. lactis IDCC 4301 on lipid metabolism in 3T3-L1 cells and high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. Our results show that B. lactis IDCC 4301 inhibits cell differentiation and lipid accumulation by suppressing the expression of adipogenic enzymes in 3T3-L1 cells. Moreover, the administration of B. lactis IDCC 4301 resulted in decreased body and epididymal adipose tissue weight, improvement in serum lipid levels, and downregulated adipogenic mRNA expression in HFD-fed mice. Additionally, metabolomic analysis suggested that 2-ketobutyrate might be a possible target compound against obesity. Collectively, these results support that B. lactis IDCC 4301 could be used as an alternative treatment for obesity.

Supplementing with low-molecular-weight collagen peptides (LMWCPs) contributes to counteracting signs of aging and improving skin hydration. In this study, a method for producing LMWCPs (Post Collagen®) from raw collagen material was developed as follows: 1) cultivating Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus IDCC 3201, 2) and collecting the liquid part above the sediment, 3) fermenting the collected liquid (2,500 L) with raw collagen material (1,000 kg) and 4) performing spray-drying. Analysis using gel permeation chromatography confirmed that the raw collagen material had broken down into LMWCPs. Additionally, these fermented collagen peptides (FCP, Post Collagen®) displayed antimicrobial activity against 4 major bacteria responsible for causing gastroenteritis. In terms of their potential benefits, treating normal human dermal fibroblasts with 80 mg/mL of FCP significantly increased the production of type I procollagen and stimulated the up-regulation of the hyaluronan synthase 2 gene. Therefore, these findings support that the supernatant of L. rhamnosus IDCC 3201 culture could offer various health benefits of the collagens from of various sources by providing LMWCPs as multifunctional dietary components.

This paper presents an investigation of UX factor of a voice user interface (VUI) for the elderly, where the voice user interface in this study refers to the artificial intelligence (AI) based technology that interacts with a user via speech commands. In this research, the investigation of UX factors involves the acceptance and affective aspects of the elderly. We applied the Wizard-of-Oz methodology in this experiment, and established our result using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) which determines the significant elements of user experience in voice user interface. Overall, the extracted UX factors can be regard as relevant design parameters for future voice user interface system and researches.
