Effect of Skin Tones on Color Emotion of Lipstick Colors
Semin Oh,Hayeon Jeon,Chaeeun Lee,Arpbai Musaev,Youngshin Kwak 한국색채학회 2017 AIC 2017 Jeju Vol.2017 No.10
People have different skin tones, which might arouse different color emotions even when the same lipstick colors are worn. In this study, the psychophysical experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of skin tone on the lipstick color emotion. Nine lipstick colors were reproduced on both warm and cool toned skin images on LCD display resulting in 18 test images. Ten participants evaluated each test image using a semantic differential scale with 18 adjective sets. The results showed that each color of lipstick could make specific mood no matter which skin tone is. The emotion of ‘Sexy’ was mostly connected with the Reddish colored lipsticks. Orange color could give ‘Cheerful’ and ‘Baby faced’. Coral, Nude, and Purple colors aroused ‘Pure’, ‘Intelligent’, and ‘Bold’ emotions, respectively. The skin tone was not very heavyweight on the color emotion of the lipstick colors, but still it did matter to maximize one’s intended vibe or mood. For instance, Coral, Burgundy, and Orange colors could express more ‘Pure’, ‘Mature’, and ‘Glam’, respectively, on warm toned skin than cool one. Likewise, putting Red-orange color on cool toned skin would make more ‘Characteristic’ than wearing it on the warm one.

Purpose: Postoperative pain affects patient recovery and can cause negative consequences. Fentanyl is widely used for postoperative pain management, but its side effects include nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, hypotension and itching. Sufentanil, which is 5 to 10 times more potent than fentanyl, has a fast onset and short duration of action. We compared the analgesic and side effects of fentanyl and sufentanil used in intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV PCA) after surgery in gynecological patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients who underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy or laparoscopic myomectomy between January-April 2012 and January-April 2016. Depending on the opioid used for IV PCA, 21 patients with fentanyl 1000 mcg, 20 patients with sufentanil 150 mcg, and 26 patients with sufentanil 200 mcg were included in this study. The pain scores and side effects in each group were evaluated immediately after the surgery and at 1, 24, and 48 hours after surgery. Results: There was no significant difference in pain scores among the three groups and there was no significant difference in the incidence of bradycardia, hypotension and pruritus. Incidences of nausea and vomiting were significantly lower in patients with sufentanil 150 mcg. Conclusion: In patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery, using sufentanil for IV PCA may reduce side effects while achieving analgesic effects similar to those achieved with fentanyl.

The hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia and acute renal failure. Microvascular thromboses in HUS may involve intestine, pancreas, skeletal muscle, and heart. Microinfarcts in the pancreas may cause acute pancreatitis and rarely insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Acute pancreatitis is a relatively common complication of HUS in children, but rare (2%) in adults. We have experienced a 43 year-old woman with HUS complicating acute pancreatitis. She presented with hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia and acute renal failure. During hemodialysis, she complained of left side abdominal and back pain. On laboratory study, levels of serum amylase and lipase were elavated. The size and shape of pancreas was normal on abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography. We present this case with a review of literature.(Korean J Med 59:663-667, 2000)

Scrub typhus is a zoonotic disease, caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, and characterized by a typical primary lesion(eschar), rash and non-specific symptoms such as fever and chills, headache, myalgia. Although it is an acute febrile illness, severe complications of this disease are very rare since the introduction of specific antibiotic therapy. The authors report two cases of scrub typhus complicating acute respiratory distress syndrome. Although appropriate diagnosis and treatment were performed, all two patients expired. They were diagnosed as scrub typhus by travel history, clinical manifestations, eschars, serologic test and polymerase chain reaction(PCR).(Korean J Med 59:544-549, 2000)
