        Effects of Next-Generation Low-Energy Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy on Erectile Dysfunction in an Animal Model of Diabetes

        Purpose: Gene therapy, stem cell therapy, and low-energy extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) have been investigated as treatments for refractory erectile dysfunction (ED), but inconclusive evidence has been obtained. We investigated the effect of a next-generation electromagnetic cylinder ESWT device on an animal model of ED.Materials and Methods: Diabetes mellitus (DM)-induced rats were divided into 3 groups: group 1, control; group 2, DM; and group 3, DM+ESWT. Rats were treated with ESWT 3 times a week for 2 weeks. After the treatment course, intracavernous pressure was measured and the corpus cavernosum and cavernous nerve were evaluated.Results: In the DM group, all parameters predicted to be significantly lower in the ED model had statistically significantly decreased (p<0.01). As a measurement of erectile function, intracavernous pressure was evaluated. The DM+ESWT group exhibited significantly restored erectile function compared to the DM group (p<0.05). Moreover, ESWT treatment restored smooth muscle content, as assessed by Masson’s trichrome staining (p<0.05). Finally, corporal tissue and the dorsal nerve were evaluated by immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and ELISA. After ESWT treatment, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, cyclic guanosine monophosphate, and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) expression levels were restored to levels in the DM group (p<0.05).Conclusions: Electromagnetic cylinder ESWT device resulted in increased VEGF, nNOS, and eNOS expression; reduced smooth muscle atrophy; and increased endothelial cell regeneration in a DM-associated ED model. Our data suggest that safe and effective application could be possible in future clinical studies.

        Four Newly Recorded Taxa of Charophytes and Chlorophytes (Charophyta and Chlorophyta, Viridiplantae) in Korea

        The freshwater algae were collected at reservoirs and small ponds in Gyeonggi-do and Jeju-do on June 2016. Four species of Korean previously unrecorded algae were collected in domestic fresh waters: Coelastrum rugosum, Cosmarium baccatum, Cosmarium norimbergense and Staurastrum connatum var. pseudoamericanum. The morphological characteristics of the four taxa identified in this study were showed mostly similar to the characteristics of the previously reported characteristics. However, Cosmarium baccatum was larger than the previously recorded species and Staurastrum connatum var. pseudoamericanum was wider than the previously recorded species.

        Microcystis aeruginosa의 정량을 위한 mcyB 특이 초고속 실시간 유전자 증폭법의 개발

        A mcyB-specific Ultra-Rapid quantitative PCR was developed for the quantitative detection of Microcystis aeruginosa,which is often a dominant species in green tide. McyB-specific UR-qPCR was optimized under extremely short timesof each step in thermal cycles, based on the specific primers deduced from the mcyB in microcystin synthetase of M. aeruginosa. The M. aeruginosa strain KG07 was used as a standard for quantification, after the microscopic countingand calculation by mcyB-specific UR-qPCR. The water samples from the river water with the Microcystis outbreakwere also measured by using both methods. The 1.0 × 108 molecules of mcyB-specific DNA was recognized inner 4minutes after beginning of UR-qPCR, while 1.0 × 104 molecules of mcyB-specific templates was detected inner 7minutes with quantitative manner. From the range of 1.0 × 102 to 1.0 × 108 initial molecules, quantification was wellestablished based on CT using mcyB-specific UR-qPCR (Regression coefficiency, R2 = 0.9977). Between the numbersof M. aeruginosa cell counting under microscope and calculated numbers using mcyB-specific UR-qPCR, somedifferences were often found. The reasons for these differences were discussed; therefore, easy compensation methodwas proposed that was dependent on the numbers of the cell counting. Additionally, to easily extract the genomicDNA (gDNA) from the samples, a freeze-fracturing of water-sample using liquid nitrogen was tested, by excludingthe conventional gDNA extraction method. It was also verified that there were no significant differences using theUR-qPCR with both gDNAs. In conclusion, the mcyB-specific UR-qPCR that we proposed would be expected to bea useful tool for rapid quantification and easy monitoring of M. aeruginosa in environmental water.

        양막 콘텍트렌즈의 임상적 효용성

        목적: MS-Amnion 양막 콘택트렌즈의 임상적 효용성에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 대상과 방법: 비수술적 치료에 반응하지 않는 심한 점상각막염 또는 각막상피결손 환자를 대상으로 MS-Amnion 양막 콘텍트렌즈를1주일 동안 착용하였다. 3개월 이상 경과 관찰한 18안을 대상으로 시술 전과 시술 후 시력, 눈물막파괴시간, 각막지각과 각막혼탁정도를 비교하였으며, 경과 관찰 기간 중 치료 성공률 및 병변 재발률과 기타 합병증에 대해 분석하였다. 결과: 18안 중 15안(83.3%)은 2주 이내에 병변이 호전되어 추가 양막 치료 없이 회복하였고, 3안(16.7%)은 치료 이후에도 병변이 지속되어 추가적인 양막이식술을 하였다. 회복되었던 15안 중 3안(20%)은 기존 병변이 재발하였다. 양막 콘택트렌즈 착용 기간 동안 5안(27.8%)은 양막이 저절로 탈락했고, 2안(11.1%)은 반으로 접혀 있었다. 최대교정시력은 시술 전 평균 0.89 logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution (logMAR)에서 3개월 후 0.27 logMAR로 호전되었고, 각막혼탁 정도는 시술 전 평균 0.38에서 3개월 후 0.11로감소하였으며 두 수치는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 눈물막파괴시간과 각막지각은 호전되는 양상을 보였으나 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 없었고, 특별한 합병증은 발견되지 않았다. 결론: MS-Amnion 양막 콘택트렌즈는 봉합사를 이용한 일시적 양막이식술과 달리 외래에서 간편하게 적용할 수 있는 장점이 있고, 난치성 안구 표면 질환을 치료하는 데 있어 일시적 양막이식술을 대체할 수 있는 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.

        보안환경에서 이질형 시스템의 전역 복구 관리 프로토콜

        Many failures are due to incorrectly programmed transactions and data entry errors. System failure causes the loss or corruption of the contents of volatile storage. Although global processing protects data values to detect direct or indirect information effluence, security environments are very important in the recovery management of heterogeneous systems. Although transaction can’t control system fault, the restart for the system can cause information effluence by low bandwith. From various faults, it is not easy to maintain the consistency and security of data. This paper proposes recovery management protocols to assure global multilevel secure one-copy quasi-serializability in security environments of heterogeneous systems with replicated data and proves its correctness. The proposed secure protocols guarantee the reliability and security of system when the system fault is happened.

        Modern medicine is a field that has been revolutionized by the emergence of computer and imaging technology. It is increasingly difficult, however, to manage the ever growing enormous amount of medical imaging information available in digital formats. Numerous techniques has been developed to make to imaging information more easily accessible and to perform analysis automatically. Among these techniques, wavelet transforms have proven prominently useful not only for biomedical imaging but also for signal and image processing in general. Wavelet transforms decompose a signal into frequency bands, the width of which are determined by a dyadic scheme. This particular way of dividing frequency bands matches the statistical properties of most images very well. During the past decade, there has been active research in applying wavelets to various aspects of imaging informatics, including compression, enhancements, analysis, classification, and retrieval. This review represents a survey of the most significant practical and theoretical advances in the field of wavelet-based imaging informatics.

        과학고 및 영재고 Research and Education (R&E) 운영 현황 및 실태 분석

        본 연구의 목적은 Research and Education(R&E) 현황과 실태를 분석하는 데 있다. 본 연구에서는 2010년에 운영된 과학고와 영재고 21개 학교의 R&E 과제 현황과 참여자 현황을 파악하였으며, 총 1,466명의 학생과 310명의 지도자를 대상으로 인식과 실태 조사를 실시하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 과학고 18개교, 영재고 3개교에서 총 502개의 R&E 과제가 운영되었다. 이 중 362과제(72.1%)는 교수위주의 지도 형태이며, 교사단독 지도는 117과제(23.3%), 교수자문 지도는 23과제(4.6%)로 나타났다. 참여한 인원은 지도자가 861명(지도교수 385명, 지도교사 476명), 학생이 2,168명이며, R&E에 투입된 총 예산은 약 45억이다. 분석 결과 R&E 운영에 있어 1) 주제 선정 시 학생의 사전지식과 교육과정을 고려하고 2) 주제와 관련된 충분한 기초학습 기회를 제공해야 하며, 3) 수행 과정의 주기적인 점검 및 주도적인 연구 기회의 제공이 요구된다. 그리고 4) 지속적 연구관련 정보 지원과 5) 연구 수행환경의 개선이 필요할 것이다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of Research and Education (R&E) program. The sample included 21 high schools(18 science high schools and 3 gifted high schools) and 1,466 students and 310 mentors. The results are as follows. Total 502 R&E projects were planned and completed. 72.1% of the total research works were guided by professors only, 23.3% were guided by teachers only, and 4.6% were guided by professors and teachers together. Total R&E mentors were 861(385 professors and 476 teachers) and mentees were 2,168. The total budget of 2011 R&E was approximately 4.5 billion won. The needs for program improvement R&E were as follows. 1) When selecting R&E topics, mentors need to consider students' current knowledge level and school curriculum. 2) Mentors should provide enough opportunities to master topic-related basic knowledge. 3) The performance should be monitored periodically. 4) The support for continuous research and improvement of research environment were requested.

        보안성을 갖는 1-사본 준직렬성을 위한 전역트랜잭션 스케쥴링

        In the security environments of heterogeneous multidatabase systems, not only the existing local autonomy but also the security autonomy as a new constraint are required. From global aspects, transactions maintain consistent data value when they assure serializability. Also, secure properties must protect these transactions and data values to prevent direct or indirect information effluence. This paper proposes scheduling algorithm for global transactions to ensure multilevel secure one-copy quasi-serializability (MLS/ 1QSR) in security environments of multidatabase systems with replicated data and proves its correctness. The proposed algorithm does not violate security autonomy and globally guarantees MLS/1QSR without indirect information effluence in multidatabase systems.
