<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Numerous studies have shown that hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) inhibits proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation in bone‐like cells. Human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (PLF) are capable of differentiating into osteoblasts and are exposed to oxidative stress during periodontal inflammation. However, the cellular responses of PLF to H2O2 have not been identified. In this study, we examined how H2O2 affects the viability and proliferation of PLF by exposing the cells to glucose oxidase (GO) or direct addition of H2O2. We also explored the effects of GO on the osteoblastic differentiation of PLF and the mechanisms involved. The viability and proliferation in PLF were increased with the addition of 10 mU/ml GO but not by volumes greater than 15 mU/ml or by H2O2 itself. GO‐stimulated DNA synthesis was correlated with the increase in cyclin E protein levels in the cells. Osteoblastic differentiation of PLF was also augmented by combined treatment with GO, as evidenced by the increases in alkaline phosphatase activity, mineralization, collagen synthesis, and osteocalcin content in the cells. The inductions of runt‐related transcription factor 2 and osterix mRNA and proteins were further increased in PLF incubated in combination with GO compared to those in untreated cells. These results demonstrate that the continuous presence of H2O2 stimulates the proliferation of PLF and augments their potential to differentiate into osteoblasts through the up‐regulation of bone‐specific transcription factors. Collectively, we suggest that H2O2 may elicit the functions of PLF in maintaining the dimensions of the periodontal ligament and in mediating a balanced metabolism in alveolar bone. Combined Model of Technology Acceptance and Innovation Diffusion Theory for Adoption of Smartwatch
Choe, Min-Ji,Noh, Ghee-Young The Korea Contents Association 2018 International Journal of Contents Vol.14 No.3
This study examined the factors influencing the intention to use smartwatches using the integrated model of technology acceptance model (TAM) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT). An online survey was conducted and the data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that the research model had an acceptable fit, and all paths, except for the one from the perceived ease of use to the intention to use, were supported. Regarding paths from IDT to TAM, it was observed that higher the compatibility, the users perceived greater usefulness. Additionally, both observability and trialability influenced the perceived ease of use. However, perceived ease of use affected the intention only through the mediated effect of perceived usefulness. The implication of the study lies on the major focus on the effects of users' perceptions regarding innovative characteristics of smartwatches on the intention to adopt and attempted to increase the explanatory power of the TAM and IDT by combining both.

Background/Aims: The aims of this study are to clarify the morphology of fundic gland polyp (FGP) and to compare the features of FGP between familial adenomatous polyposis-associated group and sporadic development group. Methods: A total of 15 endo- scopic biopsy specimens of FGP from 13 patients were divided into three groups; Group A(3 cases; familial adenomatous polyposis family, multiple FGPs), Group B(3 cases; sporadic development, multiple FGPs) and Group C(7 cases; sporadic development, single FGP), and their endoseopic /microscopic features including mucin histochemistry and immunohistoc- hemistty(for PCNA) were compared. Results: FGPs were confined to the gastric body and fundus in all 3 groups, and measured 2-8 mm. Their numbers varied even in Group A and Group B, The difference was observed in their median age: 26 years in Group A and 55 years in Group B, respectively, but there were no differences in endoscopic, histologic, mucin histochemical and immunohistochemical(for PCNA) features. Micro-scopically, all FGPs were composed of fundic glands and scattered microcysts with a spectrum of disordered glandular architecture which ranged from convoluted gland to Y-shaped gland, to stellateshaped gland, and to irregular tortuous glancl with dilated lumen. Conclusions: We assume that diversity af morphologic features of FGP may develop from progression of hyperplastic/hamartomatous fundic glandular proliferation which may end up with microcyst formation as an evolutional change. Familial adenomatous polyosis-associated FGPs were not endoscopically and histologically distingishable from sporadic deveoped FGPs.

원발성 췌종양 - 개량한 병리조직학적 분류에 의한 181예의 분석 -

The existing histologic classifications of the pancreatic neoplasms were critically analyzed, and a revised classification was applied to 181 cases of primary neoplasms of the pancreas and its validity was examined. In addition, the results were compared with data from other countries for its relevance. Of the 181 cases, the epithelial tumors comprised 93.4%, islet cell tumors 11%, and the remaining one (0.5%) was of mixed exocrine-endocrine tumor. Of the exocrine tumors 9 cases (5.3%) were benign and the remaining 160 cases (94.7%) malignant. The ductal (ductular) cell origin comprised 122 cases (76.3%) of the all malignant exocrine tumors, being followed by 3 cases of acinar cell origin, and 13 cases (8.1%) of uncertain histogenesis. Most carcinomas were prevalent in the sixth and seventh decades af life, except for pancreaticoblastoma in the first decade and papillary cystic tumors in the second and third decades, respectively. As for ductal adenocarcinoma, male to female ratio was 2. 4:1, but islet cell tumor, papillary systic tumor and mucinous cystic tumor were absolutely prevalent in female. Ductal adenocarcinomas were located in the head portion 3.4 times frequent than in the body and tail portions. However, most mucinous cystic tumors and islet cell adenomas occurred in the body-tail portion. While the median size of ductal adenocarcinomas in the head and body-tail portions were same (5. 0 cm), the poorly differentiated tumors such as microadenocarcinomas, giant cell carcinomas and undifferentiated carcinomas were greater than 10 cm at the time of surgery. There was no significant difference of relative incidence in each histopathologic subtype except papillary cystic tumor which was more prevalent in Korea.
Case Report of Urinary Schistosomiasis in a Returned Traveler in Korea
이양규,송현범,정봉광,Ghee Young Choe,Min-Ho Choi 대한기생충학ㆍ열대의학회 2020 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.58 No.1
A 23-year-old Korean woman with a residence history in Kenya and Malawi for about 2 years presented with gross hematuria for 1 month. Blood tests were within normal range except eosinophilia. Asymmetrically diffuse wall thickening and calcification were observed at the urinary bladder on CT. Multiple erythematous nodular lesions were observed in the cystoscopy and transurethral resection was done. Numerous eggs of Schistosoma haematobium with granulomatous inflammation were observed in the submucosal layer of the bladder. The patient was diagnosed with schistosomiasis-related cystitis and treated with praziquantel (40 mg/kg/day) twice before and after transurethral resection. This case suggests that S. haematobium infection should be considered as a cause of hematuria in Korea when the patient had a history of traveling endemic areas of schistosomiasis.
