대안교육의 사상적 기반으로서 그룬트비와 돈 보스코의 교육관 연구 = A Study on the Educational Values of Grundtvig and Don Bosco as Philosophical Foundations for Alternative Education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The education system in South Korea has historically been dominated by a culture centered on preparing students for college entrance exams, leading to a significant rise in student dropouts. The alternative education movement emerged as an effort to address this issue. Alternative education in South Korea is characterized by a restoration of educational values, learner-centered approaches, experiential learning, and an ecological perspective. However, the lack of clear, guiding educational philosophies has limited the actualization of these goals and values in practice. To overcome these limitations and enhance the potential of alternative education, this study explores the educational philosophies of N.F.S. Grundtvig from Denmark and Don Bosco from Italy, analyzing and comparing their ideas.
Grundtvig promoted educational goals that emphasized moral development within a civil society. His philosophy underscored the importance of individual moral freedom and community responsibility, advocating for democratic education that encourages “living interaction” and “education for life.” He considered students as autonomous individuals, emphasizing a dynamic and life-oriented approach to learning. In contrast, Don Bosco developed his “preventive system” to address issues of poverty and the moral crises facing youth in the industrial age. His approach, based on the principles of reason, religion, and loving-kindness, aimed to develop young people as morally upright and honest individuals. Don Bosco's preventive system encourages the holistic development of youth, fostering their ability to make positive choices through close, caring interactions with educators.This study analyzed the educational philosophies of Grundtvig and Don Bosco as foundational models for alternative educational philosophy and practice. These perspectives offer sustainable and universal values that align with the direction of alternative education in South Korea. The study suggests that these educational philosophies can serve as theoretical frameworks to address the multifaceted challenges within alternative education. Additionally, they offer an opportunity for educational renewal, encouraging schools to reflect on their fundamental roles and consider the direction and methods that South Korean education might adopt in the future.
