Energy consumption has become a main problem of sustainable development in communication networks and how to communicate with high energy efficiency is a significant topic that researchers and network operators commonly concern. In this paper, an energy-efficient multicast algorithm in multi-hop wireless networks is proposed aiming at new generation wireless communications. Traditional multi-hop wireless network design only considers either network efficiency or minimum energy consumption of networks, but rarely the maximum energy efficiency of networks. Different from previous methods, the paper targets maximizing energy efficiency of networks. In order to get optimal energy efficiency to build network multicast, our proposed method tries to maximize network throughput and minimize networks' energy consumption by exploiting network coding and sleeping scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better energy efficiency and performance improvements compared with existing methods.

Inspired by the conformation of spider silks, fibers with multiscale spindle-knotted structures were fabricated via a one-step modified coaxial electrospinning method. Under a high-voltage electric field, hydrophobic silica polystyrene (PS) fibers coated poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) fibers were integrated together during the electrospinning process. Due to the addition of hydrophobic gaseous SiO2 combining the spindle structure, a superhydrophobic fibrous membrane was prepared, and the bioinspired fibers achieved a superhydrophobic/superoleophilic performance for efficient emulsion separation. The results demonstrate that the incorporation of PS and SiO2 improved the efficiency of emulsion separation of the fabricated fibrous membranes by optimizing microstructure and wettability: Specifically, an extraordinary water contact angle under oil (162°) and a satisfied oil contact angle under water (0°). For water-in-diesel emulsions, a high separation efficiency of 99.1% was obtained for membrane with PS addition of 4 wt%, which is greater than of pure PVDF membrane with SiO2 (75.5%). It performs better than most other membranes showing strong promise in grease purification and oily wastewater treatment.
An Accurate Method to Estimate Traffic Matrices from Link Loads for QoS Provision
Wang, Xingwei,Jiang, Dingde,Xu, Zhengzheng,Chen, Zhenhua The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2010 Journal of communications and networks Vol.12 No.6
Effective traffic matrix estimation is the basis of efficient traffic engineering, and therefore, quality of service provision support in IP networks. In this study, traffic matrix estimation is investigated in IP networks and an Elman neural network-based traffic matrix inference (ENNTMI) method is proposed. In ENNTMI, the conventional Elman neural network is modified to capture the spatio-temporal correlations and the time-varying property, and certain side information is introduced to help estimate traffic matrix in a network accurately. The regular parameter is further introduced into the optimal equation. Thus, the highly ill-posed nature of traffic matrix estimation is overcome effectively and efficiently.
