An objective of this study is to demonstrate the validity of using a small wind turbine to recover the fluid energy flowing out of an exhaust duct for the generation of power. In these experiments, a butterfly wind turbine of a vertical axis type (D = 0.4 m) is used. The output performance is measured at various locations relative to the exit of a small wind tunnel (W = 0.65 m), representing the performance expected in an exhaust duct flow. Two-dimensional numerical analysis qualitatively agrees with the experimental results for the wind turbine power coefficient and rate of energy recovery. When the turbine is far from the duct exit (more than 2.5 D), an energy recovery rate of approximately 1.3% is obtained.

Double-blade vertical axis wind turbines (DB-VAWTs) can improve the self-starting performance of lift-driven VAWTs. We here propose the quadruple-multiple streamtube model (QMS), based on the blade element momentum (BEM) theory, for simulating DB-VAWT performance. Model validity is investigated by comparison to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) prediction for two kinds of two-dimensional DB-VAWT rotors for two rotor scales with three inner-outer radius ratios: 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75. The BEM-QMS model does not consider the effects of an inner rotor on the flow speed in the upwind half of the rotor, so we introduce a correction factor for this flow speed. The maximum power coefficient predicted by the modified BEM-QMS model for a DB-VAWT is thus closer to the CFD prediction.

On the Existence of Oscillatory Behavior in Gene Regulatory Networks with Cyclic Interconnections
Yutaka Hori,Akifumi Takabe,Shinji Hara 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
In this paper, we derive an existence condition of periodic oscillationsin cyclic gene regulatory networks, of which the dynamical behavior is described by nonlinear differential equations. For this purpose, we first point out that change of the equilibrium point with respect to biochemical parameters is important for comprehensive analysis, and show the properties which the equilibrium point should satisfy. Then, by employing the seproperties, we derive an analytic condition for the existence of periodic oscillationsincy clicgene regulatory networks where genes have homogeneous dynamics Compared to preceding studies, our condition has the following distinctive features: (i) it is analytically written only interms of the system parameters,(ii) it is applicable for cyclicgene regulatory networks consisting of any number of genes. Thus, biological inter pretation of the result is easily obtained, and, infact, it is concluded that cyclic generegulatory networks with homogeneous genedynamics tend to have periodicos cillations as the number of genes gets large. Finally, we discuss the case of cyclicgene regulatory networks with heterogeneous genedynamics.
Magnetic Property of a Single Crystal of Spin-1/2 Triple-chain Magnet Cu3(OH)4SO4
Yutaka Fujii,Yuya Ishikawa,Hikomitsu Kikuchi,Yasuo Narumi,Hiroyuki Nojiri,Shigeo Hara,Hirohiko Sato 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12
The spin-1/2 triple-chain magnet Cu3(OH)4SO4 (mineral name: antlerite) is a candidate ‘idlespin’system. In order to study the phase transitions in this compound in detail, we have performedspecific-heat measurements under magnetic fields up to 10 T and in the temperature range downto 1.9 K and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) experiments with single crystals. Wefound at least three successive phase transitions at zero field around 5 K which strongly dependon the value and the direction of the applied field. Another transition around 3 K was also found. 1H-NMR spectra in a low-temperature and low-field ordered phase indicated an antiferromagneticcommensurate spin structure with at least four sublattices, which is discussed in connection withthe idle-spin state. Phase diagrams show a richness of magnetic phases for this compound.

Summary of Event Bacterial, mycotic peritonitis and Candida fungemia developed in a patient with moderate ascites who had undergone endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage (EUS-BD). Antibiotics and antifungal agent were administered and ascites drainage was performed. Although the infection improved, the patient’s general condition gradually deteriorated due to aggravation of the primary cancer and he died. Teaching Point This is the first report to describe infectious peritonitis after EUS-BD. Ascites carries the potential risk of severe complications. As such, in patients with ascites, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is typically preferred over EUS-BD or percutaneous drainage to prevent bile leakage. However, ERCP may not be possible in some patients with tumor invasion of the duodenum or with surgically altered anatomy. Thus, in patients with ascites who require EUS-BD, we recommend inserting the drainage tube percutaneously and draining the ascites before and after the intervention in order to prevent severe infection.

Biometrics Authentication Based on Spectrum Features of Electroencephalogram (EEG)
Chisei MIYAMOTO,Hideki HARA,Isao NAKANISHI,Yoshio ITOH,Yutaka FUKUI 대한전자공학회 2007 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2007 No.7
In this paper, we propose the biometric authentication using the electroencephalogram (EEG).The EEG is difficult to reproduce physically. Moreover, the authentication using the EEG makes possible to verify the user continuously. However, it is difficult to utilize the EEG as an individual feature. In this paper, in order to extract the individual feature, we analyzed the EEG in a frequency domain. As a result, it was found that the maximum value of a power spectrum and its frequency were different among users. Based on such a spectral feature, we obtained the verification rate of 85% through verification experiments in four users.
