Power Sharing Based Control Strategy for a350 kW Multiport EV Charging System

Due to the immerging market for the ultrafast EV charging solutions to cater the need for EV chargers, multiport charging solutions are nowadays very popular. To reduce the overall footprint size of converter, solid state transformer (SST) based power converter is a preferred choice. The conventional EV chargers can either charge high power EVs or can charge multiple smaller power EVs with the help of multiple DC/DC converters. So, in this research work a 6.6 kV SST based charging solution is proposed, which can charge both the high (350 kW) and low power EVs (50 kW x 7) simultaneously. In the proposed system, the common LV DC-bus can directly charge a high-power EV and it is also shared with other lower power EVs through additional DC/DC converters. The common DC-bus can also be charged from one of the connected EV batteries and it can be shared with other EVs, in case there is a grid failure. Detailed simulation studies are performed to demonstrate the system performance. One of the SST cell unit is also manufactured, and experimental tests are performed to verify the system operation.
Development of a Compact Dose Verification System Using a Fluorescent Screen for Carbon-Ion Therapy

For quality assurance (QA) of therapeutic ion beams, a QA tool having high spatial resolution and quick verification is required. An imaging system with a fluorescent screen is suitable for the QA procedure. We developed a compact and quick verification system (NQA-SCN) using a fluorescent screen with a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera for the sake of two-dimensional dosimetry. The NQA-SCN can be attached to the irradiation port and the water column. Several types of corrections were applied to the raw image obtained by using the NQA-SCN. Our goal is to use the NQA-SCN for three-dimensional dose verification. However, in carbon-ion therapy, the fluorescent light is decreased by the quenching effect due to the increased linear energy transfer (LET) in the Bragg peak. For three-dimensional dose verification, as a first approach, we investigated the quenching effect of a carbon-ion beam in water. Also, to evaluate the performance of NQA-SCN, we carried out experiments concerning QA procedures.
A Study on Automation of Network Maintenance in Telecom Carriers for Zero-Touch Operations

In recent years, there are many work efficiency efforts in particular automation of business processes in various industry. The same trend applies to the network operations of telecommunication carriers; however, although automation of service fulfillment, such as developing network services, is progressing, automation of service assurance such as responding to network failure has not progressed. Currently, network maintenance personnel have independently developed tools for automation of network maintenance (such as troubleshooting) process partially and they are manually performing maintenance tasks by coordinating multiple groups of tools. However, in view of the future decrease in the working population, work efficiency must be further improved. Following this situation, this article focuses on further automation of network maintenance process, by developing technologies to orchestrate existing automation tools. In this paper, handling network failures among network maintenance work is targeted, the challenges and the requirements for expansion in the range of automation is discussed, after discussing current automation of network maintenance at telecom carriers in the real world. After that an implementation method that satisfies these requirements using our orchestrator and OSS products is proposed and evaluated. By defining a workflow of network maintenance that makes each process reusable, it becomes easy to create new workflow and update the one, and furthermore it was found that by reviewing how to code the workflow, it was possible to significantly improve processing performance.

Background/Aims: The clinical impact of single-stage endoscopic stone extraction by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) and cholecystectomy during the same hospitalization remains elusive. This study aimed to determine the effcacy and safety ofsingle-stage ERCP and cholecystectomy during the same hospitalization in patients with cholangitis. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 166 patients who underwent ERCP for mild to moderate cholangitis dueto choledocholithiasis secondary to cholecystolithiasis from 2012 to 2016. Results: Complete stone extraction was accomplished in 92% of patients (152/166) at the first ERCP. Among 152 patients whounderwent complete stone extraction, cholecystectomy was scheduled for 119 patients (78%). Cholecystectomy was performed duringthe same hospitalization in 89% of patients (106/119). We compared two groups of patients: those who underwent cholecystectomyduring the same hospitalization (n=106) and those who underwent cholecystectomy during a subsequent hospitalization (n=13). In thedelayed group, cholecystectomy was performed about three months after the first ERCP. There were no significant differences betweenthe groups in terms of operative time, rate of postoperative complications, and interval from cholecystectomy to discharge. Conclusions: Single-stage endoscopic stone extraction is recommended in patients with mild to moderate acute cholangitis due tocholedocholithiasis. The combination of endoscopic stone extraction and cholecystectomy during the same hospitalization is safe andfeasible.
Possible Translocation of Periodontal Pathogens into the Lymph Nodes Draining the Oral Cavity

Numerous publications have reported the presence of periodontopathogenic bacteria in peripheral and central vascular lesions. However, it is unclear how this bacterial translocation occurs. The objective of this study was to investigate whether periodontopathic bacteria are translocated to lymph nodes proximal to the oral cavity. Obtaining lymph node samples is not ethically feasible unless they are excised as part of the surgical management of patients with cancer. This study analyzed formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded lymph nodes, histologically negative for cancer cell invasion, that were excised from 66 patients with histories of head and neck cancer. Real-time PCR was performed to amplify the 16S ribosomal DNA fragments from Porphyromonas gingivalis,Treponema denticola, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans,Tannerella forsythia, and Prevotella intermedia. The relationship between bacterial detection and cancer severity,gender, and the use of anti-cancer therapy was examined by Fisher’s exact test. P. gingivalis, T. forsythia, and P. intermedia were present in 17%, 8%, and 8% of the samples of submandibular and submental lymph nodes, respectively. There were no significant relationships between bacterial detection and the cancer disease status, patient gender or use of anticancer therapy. According to these data, it appears that the translocation of periodontopathic bacteria may occur via lymphatic drainage, irrespective of the cancer disease status, gender or anticancer therapy.
