Vibronic Assignments of Isomeric Trimethylbenzyl Radicals : Revisited
Yi, Eun Hye,Yoon, Young Wook,Lee, Sang Kuk Korean Chemical Society 2014 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.35 No.3
The vibronic emission spectra of isomeric trimethylbenzyl radicals were reassigned based on substituent effect on electronic transition energy as well as ab initio calculation of the benzyl radical. The electronic transition energy of three isomeric jet-cooled trimethylbenzyl radicals produced by corona discharge of 1,2,3,5-tetramethylbenzene were analyzed using the empirical data of three isomeric methylbenzyl radicals. Calculated data were obtained by summing up the shifts measured from methylbenzyl radicals as well as taking the position and alignment of substituents on the benzene ring into account. The revised assignments show better agreement with observation, and rationalize the validity of the model developed to explain the substituent effect on electronic transition energy of benzyl radicals.

Nutcracker syndrome (renal vein entrapment syndrome) refers to compression of left renal vein between aorta and superior mesenteric artery that results in elevation of pressure in left renal vein and development of collateral veins. This syndrome occurs in relatively young and previously healthy patients and is characterized by intermittent gross hematuria due to left renal vein hypertension, at times associated with flank pain, abdominal pain or varicocele. We report a 22 year ole male patient with this syndrome presented with intermittent gross hematuria, proteinuria for 2 months. Urinalysis revealed protein (3+), blood (++), and RBC (many/HPF). Excretory urography in resting state and cystoscopy showed no remarkable finding. Renal venography showed the pressure gradient between left renal vein and inferior vena cava was 6 mmHg. The nutcracker syndrome should be considered as one of the causes of nonglomerular hematuria. All patients with unexplained severe left flank or abdominal pain, or unilateral hematuria from the left on cytoscopy, should be studied by selective renal venography and pressure measurement in inferior vena cava and renal veins. The paitent with this nutcracker syndrome could be treated with conservative treatment.
A HIGH-SPEED PROGRAMMABLE FIR DIGITAL FILTER USING SWITCHING ARRAYS
Hong, Kuk Tae,Yi, Sung Dae,Chung, Kang Min 대한전자공학회 1996 APCCAS:Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits And Sys Vol.1 No.1
In this paper, we propose a programmable tap structure used in a programmable FIR digital filter for high-frequency communication system, which speed performance is comparable to the case of a non-programmable filter. A fully parallel bit-level pipelined transposed-form carry-save architecture using CSD coefficients was used to achive high-sample rate FIR digital filter. For realization of programmable filter coefficients, two decoders and some registers were added, and these registered data controlled the shifting process of input data using switch arrays.
Design Of Fuzzy Controller for the Steam Temperature Process in the Coal Fired Power Plant

In this paper, we proposed the method to design fuzzy controller using the experience of the operating expert and experimental numeric data for the robust control about the noise and disturbance instead of the traditional PID controller for the main steam temperature control of the thermal power plant. The temperature of main steam temperature process has to be controlled uniformly for the stable electric power output. The process has the problem of the hunting for the cases of various disturbances. In that case, the manual action of the operator happened to be introduced in some cases. We adopted the TSK (Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) model as the fuzzy controller and designed the fuzzy rules using the informations extracted directly from the real plant and various operating condition to solve the above problems and to apply practically. We implemented the real fuzzy controller as the Function Block module in the DCS(Distributed Control System) and evaluated the feasibility through the experimental results of the simulation.

The study aims to discuss the characteristics of heat-to-power ratios for CHP (Combined Heat and Power) systems and tounderstand the techno-economic impact on design and operation of CHP-based energy systems. The design procedure, subjectto energy storage and energy demand profiles is suggested in a systematic and integrated manner to determine the minimumcapacities of heat and power required and additionally to obtain any surplus or deficit of energy to be imported or exported. Investigation is also made to improve the cost-effectiveness for the energy management of building by integrating industrialwaste heat and its use for the CHP unit. The case study is presented to illustrate how overall strategy for energy managementof CHP systems are heavily dependent on power-to-heat ratio of the prime mover and to demonstrate economic benefit of heatintegration between CHP-based building and an industrial site.

<P>To optimize an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) design for a fuel cell electric vehicle, a new surrogate-assisted multi-objective optimization (MOO) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm is a multi-objective algorithm (MOO) that can account for three kinds of objectives such as the torque amplitude, torque ripple, and magnet usage simultaneously to improve the power transmission and to reduce the noise, vibration, and cost for various design variables. While the conventional MOO algorithms have a series that requires many function evaluations, especially considering many objectives and design variables, the proposed algorithm can create an accurate and well-distributed Pareto front set with few function evaluations. In comparison with the conventional MOO algorithms, the outstanding performance of the proposed algorithm is verified. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied to an optimal design process of an IPMSM.</P>

<P>Photodetachment of aryl moieties from covalently functionalized SWNTs was studied by temperature-dependent and UV Raman spectroscopic tools. The sidewall functionalized SWNTs were prepared <I>via</I> diazonium reactions from 4-bromoaniline and isoamyl nitrite. <I>I</I>–<I>V</I> conductivity measurements were performed for the functionalized SWNTs, after purification from pristine SWNTs using their different solubility. Temperature dependent Raman data appeared to be in line with thermal gravimetric (TGA) data exhibiting removal of aryl moieties above 590 °C. Raman spectra of the functionalized SWNTs were examined using ultraviolet excitation at 244 nm (5.08 eV) and 325 nm (4.82 eV) as well as visible irradiation at 633 nm (1.96 eV). Our experimental results indicated that the disorder-induced D mode should change significantly, whereas the tangential G modes do not become different under UV irradiation. The D mode for the functionalized SWNTs was found weakly at ∼1410 cm−1 at a low power of UV irradiation, whereas it was observed strongly at ∼1310 cm−1 upon 633 nm irradiation. The attached aryl moieties appeared to be removed by UV irradiation as indicated from almost identical spectra with those of pristine SWNTs.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Photodetachment of aryl moieties from covalently functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes by UV laser irradiation. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b602165d'> </P>

<P>For an optimal design of an interior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG) for range the extended electric vehicle (REEV), many design variables and objective functions should be considered. Conventional optimization methods like the Taguchi method and multiobjective optimization algorithm have completeness or calculation time problems when solving the many design variables and objectives problems. To address these problems, a sequential-stage optimization strategy (SSOS) is proposed. In the first stage of the SSOS, the initial design result considering the various objective functions is derived by using the Taguchi method. In addition, the sensitive design variables are sorted through the calculation of synthetic signal to noise. In the second stage, the optimal solution for the sensitive design variables is derived using the surrogate assisted genetic algorithm (SAGA). The SAGA not only obtains an accurate and well-distributed Pareto front set but considerably reduces the number of function calls as well. In the last stage, the uncertainty consideration based on the worst-case scenario is applied to derive the robust optimal solution. By applying the proposed optimization strategy to the optimal design of IPMSG for REEV, an optimal solution is derived with fewer function calls, and the feasibility of the proposed optimization is verified by experimental results of manufactured generator.</P>
