Background : Cerebrovascular disease is a major cause of death and disability in adults. Silent cerebral infarction (SCI) portends more severe cerebral infarction or may lead to insidious progressive brain damage resulting in vascular dementia. Known cardiovascular risk factors, such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, hyperlipidemia and ischemic heart disease may increase the risk of SCI. This study was designed to evaluate the risk factors of SCI in an apparently normal adult population. Methods : We divided 340 neurologically normal adults (mean age=59.90$\pm$8.30, men:women = 146:194) who underwent brain computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at the Stroke Medical Center in Daejeon University Oriental Medicine Hospital in two groups, Silent inf. and Controls,and analyzed risk factors of SCI by interview, physical examination and blood test. Risk factors of SCI were assessed by interview, physical examination and blood test. We performed Pearson's chi-square test and two-sample t-test for univariate analysis and multiple logistic regressions for multivariate analysis to evaluate risk factors of SCI. Results : Old age, diabetes mellitus, and high lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels were associated with SCI on univariate analysis. Diabetes mellitus was demonstrated to be an independent risk factor for SCI on multivariate analysis. Conclusions : Advanced age, diabetes mellitus, and LDH levels are associated with SCI.
신문 활용 교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 논리적 사고력에 미치는 효과

본 연구의 목적은 초등학생의 논리적 사고력을 향상 시키는데 있어 신문 활용 교육 프로그램의 효과를 살펴보는데 있다. 연구대상은 초등학교 3-6학년 40명(실험: 20명, 통제: 20명)이며 연구 설계는 사전-사후 집단 설계를 활용하였다. 본 연구의 신문 활용 교육 프로그램은 교과와 연계하였으며, 한 학기동안 운영하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 실험집단은 통제집단에 비하여 논리적 사고력이 통계적으로 유의한 수준(p<.05)에서 향상되었다. 둘째, 실험집단 내에서는 5-6학년군 학생들이 3-4학년군 학생들에 비해 더 높은 향상을 보였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 초등학생의 논리적 사고력 지도와 신문 활용 교육 관점에서 논의되었으며, 앞으로 교과와 연계한 신문 활용 교육 프로그램을 구성하는데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study was to examine effects of the newspaper in education(NIE) program on the logical thinking of elementary school students. The participants of the study were forty elementary school students(experimental group: 20, control group: 20), and the group design was used to investigate the effectiveness of the NIE program. This NIE program was related to subjects. The results of applying the NIE program were as the following : First, it had effects(p<.05) on progress in logical thinking of elementary school students. Second, 5-6th grade students were more effective than 3-4th grade students in the experimental group. The results of the study were discussed in the logical thinking instruction and NIE perspective for elementary school students, and can be used to plan and implement effective NIE program.
발바닥 특정 부위 자극이 뇌파에 미치는 효과에 대한 비선형 분석

The brain is one of the most complex systems in nature. Brain waves, or the "EEG", are electrical signals that can be recorded from the brain, either directly or throught the scalp. The kind of brain wave recorded depends on the behavior of the animal, and is the visible evidence of the kind of neuronal (brain cell) processing necessary for that behavior. But, EEG had been considered as a virtually infinite-dimensional random signal. However, nonlinear dynamics light on dynamical aspects of the human EEG. The methods of nonlinear dynamics provide excellent tolls for the study of multi-variable, complex system such as EEG. In this study, 20 persons seperated in 2 groups were examined with EGG, one group stimulated on specific area of the sole of the foot with footbed inside the shoes. This experiment resulted in at the group stimulated on specific area of the sole of the fott correlation dimension of P4 and Ol channels increased significantly. Therefore, we obserbed that stimulation on specific area of the body had a constant effections on the specific channels.
