Analysis of the Korean Press’s Perspective on the Xe pian-Xe namnoy dam collapse
Lee, Yeeun,Yoon, Jeongwoo,Park, Jongho,Lee, Seukyoung 한국사회학회 2018 한국사회학회 사회학대회 논문집 Vol.2018 No.12
There was a collapse of the Xe Pian- Xe Nam Noy Hydropower Dam’s subsidiary dam in Lao PDR on July 23, 2018, resulting in the disappearance of hundreds and about a million victims were displaced due to it. From this paper, we will discuss how representative Korean newspapers deal with the collapse by selecting 2 newspapers each from conservative, progressive and business to compare and analyze the views of them with different ideological tendencies. We classified articles by framing type used in the preceding study (Cho, 2013) which consists of 6 framing types: Damage/Relief, Responsibility, Human Interests, Risk, Economic Consequences, and Conflict. The results indicate that among the journals, the progressive papers and business papers are more interested in human interest, conflict, responsibility frames compared to conservative papers. Of all, Hankyoreh had a particularly large proportion of their articles dedicated to the human interest frame. It is also notable that of all frames, the conflict frame has the lowest article count of only 5. However, it is also the case that the articles with conflict frame were also the ones that had more in-depth information and discussion and thus were arguably more significant and quality articles. Therefore, their lacking number of articles does not necessarily allow for a conclusion that the conflict frame was the least represented. Similar is observed in the fact that although Mail Business Newspaper may give an impression that it is representing larger portions of each frame, their numbers were inflated due to it having the highest total article count. Since public perception is highly dependent on press coverage (framing), we can infer that the conservative newspaper subscribers would have a relatively more superficial understanding of the issue. Civic and governmental engagement (interest) encourages press, and the reverse of the relationship holds true as well. How the news media frames an issue indeed has much bigger implications beyond the articles themselves.
Familial, Cognitive, and Behavioral Characteristics of Adolescents with Depression
Lee, Yeeun,Kim, Bung-Nyun,Park, Min-Hyeon,Park, Subin Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 2017 소아청소년정신의학 Vol.26 No.1
Objectives: Adolescent depression is a complex disorder influenced by a variety of personal and familial factors. In this study, we compared the familial, cognitive, and behavioral characteristics of adolescents with and without diagnosed depression. Methods: Forty adolescents with depressive disorder were recruited from two psychiatric clinics, along with 46 healthy adolescents from a middle school and a high school. We then compared the participants' cognitive and behavioral characteristics and the child-rearing attitudes of their parents. Results: Compared to the healthy adolescents, the adolescents with depression exhibited lower self-esteem, higher emotional reappraisal, greater disruptive behavior, and lower attention. Furthermore, compared to the mothers of the healthy adolescents, the mothers of those with depression reported less affective, less autonomic, and more rejecting parenting attitudes towards their children. Conclusion: We found that attentional problems, negative parenting attitudes, negative self-cognition, and expressive suppression are all associated with adolescent depression. Parenting education and interventions appear to be needed to correct the negative cognitions of adolescents with depression.

OBJECTIVES: Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of mortality worldwide, and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is particularly fatal condition. We evaluated the incidence and case fatality rates of AMI in Korea from 2011 to 2020. METHODS: We utilized data from the National Health Insurance Services to calculate crude, age-standardized, and age-specific incidence rates, along with 30-day and 1-year case fatality rates, of AMI from 2011 to 2020. Age-standardized incidence rates were determined using direct standardization to the 2005 population. RESULTS: The crude incidence rate of AMI per 100,000 person-years consistently increased from 44.7 in 2011 to 68.3 in 2019, before decreasing slightly to 66.2 in 2020. The age-standardized incidence rate of AMI displayed a 19% rise from 2011 to 2019, followed by a slight decline in 2020. The increasing trend for AMI incidence was more pronounced in males than in females. Both 30-day and 1-year case fatality rates remained stable among younger individuals but showed a decrease among older individuals. There was a minor surge in case fatality in 2020, particularly among recurrent AMI cases. CONCLUSIONS: Over the past decade, the AMI incidence rate in Korea has consistently increased, with a slight downturn in 2020. The case fatality rate has remained relatively stable except for a minor increase in 2020. This study provides data for continuous surveillance, the implementation of targeted interventions, and the advancement of research aimed at AMI in Korea.

Objectives: With increasing concerns for the rapidly growing minority population in South Korea, this literature review addressed a range of mental health risks among multiethnic youths (MY) in South Korea by 1) comparing mental health outcomes with those of native-born youths and 2) identifying multiple layers of relevant environmental factors, from family and school relationships to culture. Methods: We reviewed 54 studies that fulfilled specific inclusion criteria. Results: Multiple common risk/protective factors, including family separation, family relationship quality, parental socioeconomic and mental health status, social relationships at school, and cultural acceptance, were noted. Conclusion: In general, empirical evidence indicates that minority youths have relatively heightened risks for emotional and behavioral problems. Future studies must elucidate the complex interplay between multiple risk and protective factors and the long-term adaptation and mental health service utilization of MY.

A total of 165 obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 30 kg/m2 or obese patients with a BMI of 27 to 29.9 kg/m2 and one or more risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia will be enrolled. Participants will be randomly assigned to 1 of 3 groups (high-dose, low-dose, or placebo) with a 1:1:1 allocation ratio and will have 4 scheduled visits during the 12-week treatment period. The participants will be administered 2 tablets of Hanslim or placebo, 2 times per day. The difference in the proportion of participants who lost weight by more than 5% from their baseline at 12 weeks compared to the placebo group will be examined as the primary efficacy outcome. Secondary efficacy outcomes include differences in body weight, BMI, body-fat percentage, fat mass, skeletal-muscle mass, edema index, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-hip ratio, serum lipid, blood glucose, C-reactive protein, and total score of Korean version of obesity-related quality of life after 12 weeks of treatment. Designing User Interface of Hospital Guidance System for the Elderly
Yeeun Choi,Jeongwon Lee,Seongil Lee 대한인간공학회 2011 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2011 No.5
This paper propose an application UI (User Interface) for hospital guardian system that shows process of treatment to the elderly. To improve the usability of IT service for the elderly, it must be needed to apply that their physical and cognitive characteristics. Actually, these are excluded sometimes in UI design process that makes connection between diverse functions provided by products and user. So, this study tried to design a simple and clear UI for the elderly by considering cognitive difficulty and limitations of mobile display. To design mobile application UI specialized for elder people, various methodology of UI design proceeded sequentially. (1) First, we carried out problems analysis by observation of elderly patients according to Ethnography method; (2) To show how user interacts with application intuitively, the Information Architecture was designed; (3) And, the proper UI and GUI designed as well; (4) Finally, we tested about usability by informal Heuristic Evaluation. It helps create the higher value-added mobile device for the elderly.
