Is glue embolization safe and effective for gastrointestinal bleeding?

Transcatheter arterial embolization using N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) for gastrointestinal arterial bleeding enables higher cessation rate and lower recurrent bleeding rate compared with conventional embolic materials including gelatin sponge, metallic coil, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particle. Glue embolization is particularly effective in patients with coagulopathy. Even in the lower gastrointestinal tract, ischemic bowel complications by glue embolization are comparable to other agents. Glue embolization is also effective for arterial esophageal bleeding without any serious ischemic complications although the anatomy of the esophageal artery is complex and varied. For bleeding after abdominal surgery such as pancreaticoduodenectomy or hepatic lobectomy, interventional radiologists should be careful with indicating glue embolization because the presence of fewer collateral vessels can easily result in serious ischemic complications. Modified glue such as Glubran 2 (NBCA associated with methacryloxyfulfolane) can reduce the risk of ischemic complication due to its less thermal reaction, but the outcomes seem unsatisfactory.

Formation of particulate-phase and gas-phase polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in cigarette smoke
Shimazu, Haruki,Yata, Tsuyoshi,Ozaki, Naoto Techno-Press 2017 Advances in environmental research Vol.6 No.3
This study examines the concentrations of particulate-phase polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and gas-phase PAHs in sidestream cigarette smoke. Sixteen PAHs were determined for four brands of cigarettes. The volume of the experimental room is approximately $66m^3$. The air samples in the room were collected before and after smoking. The median total of particulate-phase and gas-phase PAH concentrations before smoking $3.13ng/m^3$and $48.0ng/m^3$, respectively. The median concentrations of them after smoking were $10.0ng/m^3$ and $79.6ng/m^3$. The median increases in the total of 16 PAH concentrations per cigarette during smoking were 271 ng for the particulate-phase PAHs and 1960 ng for the gas-phase PAHs. According to the relationship between particulate-phase and gas-phase PAHs after smoking, the two- to four-ring gas-phase PAHs and the higher molecular weight particulate-phase PAHs were probably formed from similar precursors. The relationship between the total suspended particulate (TSP) concentration and the increase in the total particulate-phase concentration of the 16 PAHs per cigarette during smoking were significantly positive. The increase in the total gas-phase concentration of the 16 PAHs tended to increase as the TSP concentration increased. This may indicates that decreasing the amount of TSP produced inhibit the production of PAHs during smoking.
HDR Spectral Video System Using CMY-ND Filter
Yuki Onishi,Yoshitsugu Manabe,Noriko Yata 한국색채학회 2017 AIC 2017 Jeju Vol.2017 No.10
Capturing natural scenes with wide dynamic range content using conventional RGB cameras often includes saturated and/or underexposed pixels. Furthermore, the color reproduction of the image is not sufficient to present correct color. There are some methods of High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging and spectral imaging to solve these problems. However existing methods of HDR and spectral imaging need some images while changing optical filters, so it is difficult to acquire HDR and spectral video. This paper aims to achieve the HDR spectral video measurement using a single RGB camera with special optical element, complementary color filter (CMY) and neutral density (ND) filter. The CMY-ND image is acquired using CMY filters, ND filter and a single RGB camera with special optical element. First an acquisition image is divided into four images and make a registration. Next the saturated pixels in CMY filter images are detected and these pixels are interpolated by the pixels of ND filter image to generate HDR image. The spectral transformation matrix is calculated using RGB values and spectral distribution data measured beforehand. Spectral information is estimated by using the spectral transformation matrix. In experiments, the measurement accuracy and effectiveness are discussed based on the results of experiments.
