The turbulent thermal dynamics and mixing performance of kenics static mixer (KSM), lightnin static mixer (LSM) and Q-type static mixer (QSM) were numerically simulated with uniform heat flux within the range of Reynolds numbers (Re) between 6000 and 30000. The numerical predictions of Nusselt number (Nu) and friction coefficient (f) in KSM were well consistent with the experimental data. The dean vortices, thermal resistance, entropy generation and field synergy were fully analyzed to obtain the enhancement mechanism of heat transfer performance. The synergy performance between temperature gradient and flow field firstly decreased and then increased and are superior to that of KSM with increasing Re. With the same Re, the entropy generation rates of LSM are 0.93-0.94 times that of QSM. LSM is a better alternative consideration for convection mixing and heat transfer enhancement. Two new relationships between Nu and f under different dimensionless uniform heat flux are obtained.

We demonstrate the use of a supernormal valence transition-metal (Ce(IV) and Cu(III))-mediated redox system for the surface grafting on the halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). Following this way, commonly-used vinyl monomers were grafted on HNTs in one step under mild condition. The grafting was evidenced using FTIR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The micromorphology was carefully characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results indicate that the surface grafting reaction was successfully processed in all cases, in which the Ce(IV) shows a much higher initiation activity than that of Cu(III). Then a uniform hydrogel was constructed by mixing poly(triethyl(4-vinylbenzyl)phosphonium chloride-grafted HNTs (HNTs-P(Et-P)) with sodium polyacrylate-grafted HNTs (HNTs-P(AA-Na)), which show desirable antibacterial activity.

Background/Aims Several studies have demonstrated that sleep problems are associated with functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs): irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia, etc, but the relationship between excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and FGIDs has not been systematically studied in the general population. This study aims to explore the relationship between EDS and specific types of FGIDs and the effect of the number of FGIDs on EDS. Methods A sample of 3600 individuals (aged 18-80 years) was selected from 5 regions in China using a randomized, stratified, multi-stage sampling method. EDS was measured by the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, while gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other FGIDs were assessed by Reflux Disease Questionnaire and the Rome II diagnostic criteria, respectively. Results The survey was completed by 2906 individuals (response rate: 80.72%), and 644 individuals (22.16%) had EDS. EDS was significantly associated with ulcer-like dyspepsia (OR, 2.50; 95% CI, 1.08-5.79), diarrhea-predominant IBS (OR, 2.00; 95% CI, 1.09-3.66), alternating IBS (OR, 2.32; 95% CI, 1.30-4.13), functional constipation (OR, 1.68; 95% CI, 1.20-2.35), and GERD (OR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.08-2.72). Risk of EDS increased along with the increasing numbers of FGIDs: with 1 FGID (OR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.37-2.15); with 2 FGIDs (OR, 2.43; 95% CI, 1.63-3.62); and with 3 or more FGIDs (OR, 3.26; 95% CI, 1.37-7.78). Conclusions FGIDs, such as ulcer-like dyspepsia, diarrhea-predominant IBS, alternating IBS, functional constipation, and GERD, were significantly associated with EDS. The laminar flow and chaotic mixing characteristics of a high-viscosity fluid in static mixers with staggered perforated helical segments were numerically investigated in the range of Re=0.1-150. The numerical results of pressure drop of Kenics static mixer have a good agreement with the reported data from the literature. The effects of aspect ratio Ar and Reynolds number on the mixing performance of Modified Kenics Static Mixers (MKSM) were evaluated by Darcy friction coefficient, shear rate, stretching rate, and Lyapunov exponent, respectively. The product of f×Re for MKSM linearly increased with the increase of Re, but it was constant under Re<10. The values of shear rate in the first perforated hole of mixing elements gradually became much larger by 1.10%-11.78% than those in the second perforated hole with the increasing Re. With the increase of dimensionless axial mixing length, the stretching rate increased linearly and the sensitivity for initial condition gradually weakened. A larger Ar is beneficial for micro-mixing in creeping flow. The average Lyapunov exponent linearly increases with the increase of Re. The profiles of Lyapunov exponent at different dimensionless perforated diameter (d/W) and perforated spacing (s/W) indicate that the chaotic mixing in MKSM is much more sensitive to d/W than s/W. A dimensionless parameter η taking into account the mixing degree and pressure drop was employed to evaluate the mixing efficiency. The optimization of perforated helical segments with the highest mixing efficiency at Re=100 was d/W=0.55 and s/W=1.2.

In order to solve the problem of limited frequency selection range and simplify calculations on the grounded capacitance measurement for the ungrounded distribution system, a high-frequency injecting method for the capacitive current measurement is proposed in the paper. The injecting frequency can be high enough to ignore capacitive reactance and leakage resistance comparing with leakage inductance. The leakage inductance value is obtained directly on the base of simplifi ed calculation. Then the resonant frequency of the power system needs to be obtained by the traditional resonant method. Finally, the grounded capacitance can be calculated through the equivalent circuit and the simultaneous equations. The simulation and experiments verify the feasibility of the high-frequency method. The experiment results prove that this method not only solves the problem of frequency selection, but also has advantages of convenience and high precision (the relative error is less than 5%), which is also suitable for the larger grounded capacitance system.

Under the conditions of liquid phase inlet Re ranging from 9,836 to 56,206 and gas fraction α from 4.76% to 66.67%, gas-liquid two-phase bubbly flow was investigated in a static mixer with three twisted leaves (TKSM) with a diameter of 100mm and an aspect ratio of 1.5. A high-speed camera Revealer-2F04M with a resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels was used to capture the evolution of bubble groups at the different axial windows of mixer elements. The results show that the flow pattern in the TKSM is still in bubbly flow at the flow rate of continuous phase QL no more than 1.0 m3/h and gas fraction α higher up to 54.55%-66.67%. The Sauter mean diameter d32 of bubble groups gradually decreased with the increase of the mixing elements number. With the given liquid flow rate QL1.0m3/h, the Sauter mean diameter d32 firstly decreased and then increased with the increase of gas flow rate. The local minimum of d32 was obtained at QG=0.72m3/h and 84.5% of the dB/D0 is in the range of 0.02-0.05. The relationship among Sauter mean diameter, the inner diameter and the non-dimensional residence time satisfies the correlation We0.35·d32/D0=0.026 0.17.

Objective: To identif y the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of docetaxel combined with afixed dose of cisplatin (75 mg/m2) delivered as hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC) in patients with ovarian cancer. Methods: In this phase I trial, a time-to-event Bayesian optimal inter val design was used. Docetaxel was given at a starting dose of 60 mg/m2 and was increased in 5 mg/m2 incrementsuntil the MTD was determined or the maximum dose level of 75 mg/m2 was reached. The dose-limiting toxicity (DLT) rate was set at 25%, with a total sample size of 30 patients. HIPEC wasdelivered immediately following debulking surger y at a target temperature of 43°C for 90 minutes. Results: From August 2022 to November 2022, 30 patients were enrolled. Among thepatients who received a dose of docetaxel ≤65 mg/m2, no DLT was reported. DLTs wereobser ved in one patient who received 70 mg/m2 docetaxel (grade 3 anaemia) and in threepatients who received 75 mg/m2 docetaxel (one case of grade 3 anaemia, one case of grade3 hepatic impairment and one case of grade 4 thrombocytopenia). Patients treated withdocetaxel 75 mg/m2 in combination with cisplatin 75 mg/m2 had an estimated DLT rate of25%, which was the closest to the target DLT rate and was therefore chosen as the MTD. Conclusion: Docetaxel, in combination with a fixed dose of cisplatin (75 mg/m2), can be usedsafely at intraperitoneal doses of 75 mg/m2 in ovarian cancer patients who received HIPEC(43°C, 90 minutes) following debulking surger y. Objective: Self-sampled human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is a potential option forcer vical cancer screening, but research is scarce in Cambodia. We evaluated the feasibility,accuracy, and acceptability of self-sampled HPV testing using careHPV. Methods: A cross-sectional study including women aged 20–49 years attending 2 nationalhospitals in the capital city was conducted. Women under went both self-sampling andclinician-sampling of specimens, and were then asked to complete an acceptabilityquestionnaire. The paired samples were analyzed for high-risk HPV by careHPV andgenotyped by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: A total of 375 women were eligible for inclusion. Based on PCR, 78.9% were negativefor HPV in both self and clinician-samples, 9.9% had a complete HPV type match, and 6.1%had all HPV types in clinician-samples also detected in self-samples. In 5.1%, one or more HPVtypes identified in the clinician-samples were missed in self-samples. When using careHPV,the overall agreement between the 2 sampling methods was 95.7% (95% confidence inter val[CI]=95.8–95.6) with good concordance (κ=0.66, 95% CI=0.56–0.76). Nearly 90% of the womenpreferred clinician-sampling over self-sampling, citing greater comfort, ease, and speed. Conclusion: Self-sampled HPV testing using careHPV could be an option for cer vical cancerscreening in Cambodia; however, it requires periodic quality control of handling procedures. In addition, women’s health education regarding the accuracy of self-sampled HPV testingand the importance of follow-up in cases of positive results is needed.
