The synthesis of PdP nanoparticles (NPs) using triphenylphosphine as a phosphorus precursor was investigated. The electrocatalytic performance of PdP NPs in hydrogen evolution reaction in an alkaline medium was measured. It can be concluded that when the current density is 10 mA cm -2, the overpotential produced by Pd3P0.95 NPs is 75mV which is 185mV lower than that produced by commercial Pd/C. The mass activity of Pd3P0.95 NPs is more than twice as high as that of commercial Pd/C. The work indicates that PdP nanomaterials could be a potential catalyst for water splitting.

We demonstrate the use of a supernormal valence transition-metal (Ce(IV) and Cu(III))-mediated redox system for the surface grafting on the halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). Following this way, commonly-used vinyl monomers were grafted on HNTs in one step under mild condition. The grafting was evidenced using FTIR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The micromorphology was carefully characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results indicate that the surface grafting reaction was successfully processed in all cases, in which the Ce(IV) shows a much higher initiation activity than that of Cu(III). Then a uniform hydrogel was constructed by mixing poly(triethyl(4-vinylbenzyl)phosphonium chloride-grafted HNTs (HNTs-P(Et-P)) with sodium polyacrylate-grafted HNTs (HNTs-P(AA-Na)), which show desirable antibacterial activity.

Previous data suggest that L-type Ca2+ channels containing the Cav1.3(alpha(1D)) subunit are expressed mainly in neurons and neuroendocrine cells, whereas those containing the Cav1.2(alpha1C) subunit are found in the brain, vascular smooth muscle, and cardiac tissue. However, our previous report as well as others have shown that Cav1.3 Ca2+ channel-deficient mice (Cav1.3(-/-)) demonstrate sinus bradycardia with a prolonged PR interval. In the present study, we extended our study to examine the role of the Cav1.3(alpha1D) Ca2+ channel in the atria of Cav1.3(-/-) mice.

By utilizing robust piecewise control and via non-collocated piecewise measurement, stabilization for a class of fractional-order reaction diffusion systems (FRDSs) governed by fractional-order partial differential equations (FPDEs) has been investigated. Luenberger-type infinite-dimensional FPDEs observers are firstly set up to conquer the difficulty created by non-collocated piecewise measurement. Afterwards, two main results based on dynamic output feedback control considered in two cases are derived in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are the sufficient conditions for the Mittag-Leffler (M-L) stability of the close-loop system. Finally, numerical results are given to illustrate the feasibility and validity of the method proposed in this paper.
Decrease of Contact Resistance at the Interface of Carbon Nanotube/Electrode by Nanowelding

Reliable interconnection between carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and externalcircuit is one of the prerequisite in CNT electronics. In this work, ultrasonic nanowelding was used to bond CNTs with metal electrodes. Byexerting ultrasonic energy at the interface of CNT/electrode, a reliable jointwith negligible contact resistance was obtained between CNTs andelectrodes. The performance of welding is susceptible to the ultrasonicparameters such as ultrasonic power and clamping force, as well as themetal type. It is found that the metals with good ductility or low meltingpoint are easier to achieve effective joints. Moreover, interfacialcompounds are formed at the welded surface of metal Al and Fe, which isresulted from the interacting and chemical bonding of carbon and metalatoms. After nanowelding, the contact resistance between CNTs andelectrode is decreased dramatically, and the two-terminal resistance of thesample approximates to the intrinsic resistance of the CNT itself.

Background/Aims Several studies have demonstrated that sleep problems are associated with functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs): irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia, etc, but the relationship between excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and FGIDs has not been systematically studied in the general population. This study aims to explore the relationship between EDS and specific types of FGIDs and the effect of the number of FGIDs on EDS. Methods A sample of 3600 individuals (aged 18-80 years) was selected from 5 regions in China using a randomized, stratified, multi-stage sampling method. EDS was measured by the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, while gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other FGIDs were assessed by Reflux Disease Questionnaire and the Rome II diagnostic criteria, respectively. Results The survey was completed by 2906 individuals (response rate: 80.72%), and 644 individuals (22.16%) had EDS. EDS was significantly associated with ulcer-like dyspepsia (OR, 2.50; 95% CI, 1.08-5.79), diarrhea-predominant IBS (OR, 2.00; 95% CI, 1.09-3.66), alternating IBS (OR, 2.32; 95% CI, 1.30-4.13), functional constipation (OR, 1.68; 95% CI, 1.20-2.35), and GERD (OR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.08-2.72). Risk of EDS increased along with the increasing numbers of FGIDs: with 1 FGID (OR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.37-2.15); with 2 FGIDs (OR, 2.43; 95% CI, 1.63-3.62); and with 3 or more FGIDs (OR, 3.26; 95% CI, 1.37-7.78). Conclusions FGIDs, such as ulcer-like dyspepsia, diarrhea-predominant IBS, alternating IBS, functional constipation, and GERD, were significantly associated with EDS. Those who suffered from more kinds of FGIDs were more susceptible to EDS. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2017;23:298-305)
