        凝視與現身 -談臺灣工地書寫的抒情主體

        臺灣「工地書寫」於近兩年間興起,本文以林立青、曾文昌作品為例,透過比較其異同,探究非虛構寫作中的抒情主體。林立青以工地主任凝視工地人事物,其位置既是又不是工人,憑藉特殊的視野照見工地與工人在臺灣社會中所受忽視、歧視,以及其中的階級與權力。曾文昌身為鐵工師傅,自我表述人生經歷、價值觀、職業守則,此一現身已經接近自傳的形式。兩相對照,正可看出臺灣工地書寫中的抒情主體的真(Authenticity)與誠(Sincerity)。 The ‘construction site writing(工地書寫)’ has been popular in the past two years in Taiwan. This article takes Lin Li-Ching (林立青) and Tseng Wen-chang (曾文昌)’s works as examples toexplore the lyrical subject in non-fiction writing by comparing their similarities and differences. Lin, as the director of various construction works, puts his eyes on the people on the sites. As heholds double identities both as a worker and supervisor, he develops a special vision to reflect onthe neglect and discrimination on construction workers in Taiwan society, as well as the issues ofclass and power implied. As a blacksmith, Tseng self-describes his life experiences, values, andprofessional codes in his book. The appearance is almost an autobiography. By contrasting thesetwo authors, we can see the sincerity and authenticity of the lyrical subject in Taiwan’sconstruction site writing.

        敘事與訴說

        The definition of genres in Taiwan literature has undergone significant change in recent years. The transformation from “prose” to “non-fiction writing” manifests not only the confirmation of authenticity in the content, but also the innovation of expression in literary form. This paper discusses the emerging “Construction Site Writing” in Non-fiction writing and analyzes the formal expression of Lin Li-Ching (林立青) and Tseng Wen-Chang (曾文昌)"s works: Lin inherits the narrative skills from realistic literature and expresses the reality on construction sites through dialogue, vocabulary, dramatic structure, ending with negative sentences; Tseng represents his own construction site experience through a consistent narrator “I”, the chronological structure, and the use of words which are to make readers at the scene. Through the investigation of these two authors, it can be known that the focus of the Construction Site Writing should not be the issue of qualification of its writers, but rather, we should focus on how literary form is used to reflect the reality on the construction sites and how it presents the life situation on the sites.

        凝視與現身 ―談臺灣工地書寫的抒情主體

        대만 ‘현장 서사(工地書寫)’가 최근 2년 사이에 일어나, 본문은 임립청, 증문창의 작품을 예로 들며, 그 차이를 비교하여, 논픽션 작품에서의 서정 주체를 탐구하였다. 임립청은 현장 주임으로 공사 현장의 일을 응시하고 있는데, 그 위치는 노동자이자 또한 노동자가 아닌 특수한 시야로 현장과 노동자들이 대만 사회에서 무시당하고 차별을 받는 것, 그리고 그중의 계급과 권력을 밝힌다. 철공 사부로서 인생역정, 가치관, 직업수칙을 스스로 밝힌 증문창은 자서전에 가까운 모습을 보였다. 서로 대조하여 대만 건설현장에서 쓰고 있는 서정의 주체인진(Authenticity)과 성(Sincerity)을 보여준다.         Enhancing Astaxanthin Accumulation in Haematococcus pluvialis by Coupled Light Intensity and Nitrogen Starvation in Column Photobioreactors

        Natural astaxanthin mainly derives from a microalgae producer, Haematococcus pluvialis. The induction of nitrogen starvation and high light intensity is particularly significant for boosting astaxanthin production. However, the different responses to light intensity and nitrogen starvation needed to be analyzed for biomass growth and astaxanthin accumulation. The results showed that the highest level of astaxanthin production was achieved in nitrogen starvation, and was 1.64 times higher than the control group at 11 days. With regard to the optimization of light intensity utilization, it was at 200 μmo/m2/s under nitrogen starvation that the highest astaxanthin productivity per light intensity was achieved. In addition, both high light intensity and a nitrogen source had significant effects on multiple indicators. For example, high light intensity had a greater significant effect than a nitrogen source on biomass dry weight, astaxanthin yield and astaxanthin productivity; in contrast, nitrogen starvation was more beneficial for enhancing astaxanthin content per dry weight biomass. The data indicate that high light intensity synergizes with nitrogen starvation to stimulate the biosynthesis of astaxanthin.

        Continuous Conversion of Rice Starch Hydrolysate to 2-keto-D-gluconic Acid by Arthrobacter globiformis C224

        A continuous conversion process of rice starch hydrolysate to 2-keto-D-gluconic acid (2KGA) by Arthrobacter globiformis C224 was developed. Its feasibility for industrial application was also evaluated. Results showed that the initial cell concentration exceeding 1.25 g/L met the continuous 2KGA production at a stable dilution rate and media composition, while the dilution rate and feeding glucose concentration had a significant effect on 2KGA production performance. The optimal operating parameters were obtained as: 0.090/h of dilution rate and 171.0 g/L of feeding glucose concentration. Under these conditions, the steady state had a produced 2KGA concentration of 124.74 g/L, average volumetric productivity of 11.23 g/L/h,and yield of 0.97 g/g. In conclusion, continuous 2KGA production by the A. globiformis C224 strain would be a superior industrial process for the production of 2KGA in terms of its high 2KGA productivity and yield.

      • Preferential Induction of CYP1A1 over CYP1B1 in Human Breast Cancer MCF-7 Cells after Exposure to Berberine

        Estrogens are considered the major breast cancer risk factor, and the carcinogenic potential of estrogens might be attributed to DNA modification caused by derivatives formed during metabolism. $17{\beta}$-estradiol ($E_2$), the main steroidal estrogen present in women, is metabolized via two major pathways: formation of 2-hydroxyestradiol (2-OH $E_2$) and 4-hydroxyestradiol ($4-OH\;E_2$) through the action of cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A1 and 1B1, respectively. Previous reports suggested that $2-OH\;E_2$ has putative protective effects, while $4-OH\;E_2$ is genotoxic and has potent carcinogenic activity. Thus, the ratio of $2-OH\;E_2/4-OH\;E_2$ is a critical determinant of the toxicity of $E_2$ in mammary cells. In the present study, we investigated the effects of berberine on the expression profile of the estrogen metabolizing enzymes CYP1A1 and CYP1B1 in breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Berberine treatment produced significant induction of both forms at the level of mRNA expression, but with increased doses produced 16~ to 52~fold greater induction of CYP1A1 mRNA over CYP1B1 mRNA. Furthermore, berberine dramatically increased CYP1A1 protein levels but did not influence CYP1B1 protein levels in MCF-7 cells. In conclusion, we present the first report to show that berberine may provide protection against breast cancer by altering the ratio of CYP1A1/CYP1B1, could redirect $E_2$ metabolism in a more protective pathway in breast cancer MCF-7 cells.

        Sandtray Therapy for Cancer Patients, Survivors, and Family Members

        Over one million survivors have lived more than 25 years after receiving a cancer diagnosis. Researchers proposed employing sandtray therapy as an effective means of exploring the lived experience of cancer patients, survivors, and family members. Three of five support group members participated in the research study. Sandtray therapy provided the participants with the power to increase their understanding about themselves, in addition to experiencing the resilience of achieving wellness. Participants used sandtrays to depict their lived experience, discover essential phenomena, and explore resilience.
