Ginseng improves cognitive deficit via the RAGE/NF-kB pathway in advanced glycation end product-induced rats

        Xiaobin Tan,Junfei Gu,Bingjie Zhao,Shuyuan Wang,Jiarui Yuan,Chunfei Wang,Juan Chen,Jiping Liu,Liang Feng,Xiaobin Jia 고려인삼학회 2015 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.39 No.2

Background: Ginseng, the root of Panax ginseng (PG), is used widely as a herbal medicine to prevent andtreat various diseases. Panax ginseng has pharmacological effects on neurodegenerative diseases such asAlzheimer’s disease (AD). The present study evaluated the neuroprotective effects of PG and its possibleneuroprotective mechanisms in advanced glycation end product (AGE)-induced AD in a rat model. Methods: Advanced glycation end products were injected bilaterally into the CA3 region of the rats’brains. The Morris water maze test and step-down type passive avoidance test were performed toevaluate their memory and cognitive abilities. The oxidation indexes in the hippocampus were detected. Immunohistochemistry was conducted to visualize the receptors for advanced glycation end products(RAGEs) and nuclear factor-kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cell (NF-kB). Results: Behavioral results showed that PG (1 g/kg, 0.5 g/kg, and 0.25 g/kg) significantly shortened theescape latency, remarkably increased the number of crossing times, significantly decreased the numberof errors, and prolonged the latency in rats with AGE-induced AD. Panax ginseng also significantlyreduced the malondialdehyde level, increased the glutathione content, and increased superoxide dismutaseactivity in the hippocampus. Panax ginseng significantly decreased the expression of RAGE andNF-kB. The blockade of anti-RAGE antibody could significantly reduce AGE-induced impairments andregulate these expressions. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that PG significantly inhibits AGE-induced memory impairmentand attenuates Alzheimer-like pathophysiological changes. These neuroprotective effects of PG may beassociated with the RAGE/NF-kB pathway. Our results provided the experimental basis for applying PG inpreventing and treating AD.

      • Tracklet-Global Track Fusion Using Support Degree Function in Sensor Networks

Xiaobin Li,En Fan,Changhong Yuan,Pengfei Li 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.10

For the situation with unknown qualities of local tracks in sensor networks, a new tracklet-global track fusion method using the support degree function (SDF-T2GTF) is proposed. According to the characteristic of actual transmission modes, two local estimates of a moving target in adjacent interval transmitted by the same local node are defined as a tracklet, and subsequently tracklet-global track (T2GT) fusion can replace the traditional track fusion in the global node, namely local track-global track (LT2GT) fusion. Considered the advantage of the fuzzy track association (TA) method for unknown prior information of local tracks, it is used in T2GT association. Then all correlated tracklets in the same interval can be mapped into a set of points in parameter space by the Hough transform (HT) algorithm. The support degree function of these points is utilized to dynamically estimate the qualities of tracklets and reasonably allocates the weights of local estimates in fusion results. Hence, the proposed method can realize T2GT fusion without the prior information of local tracks. The experimental result illustrates that the proposed method can satisfy the requirement of data transmission in real systems, and can realize T2GT fusion; on the other, it can improve the performance of track fusion in accuracy compared with the traditional methods.

Effect of the Cross Accumulative Roll Bonding on the Corrosion Behaviour of AA6082/AA7204 Composite Sheets

        Manfa Yuan,Yunlai Deng,Sen Lin,Xiaobin Guo,Yuankang Xie 대한금속·재료학회 2021 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.27 No.9

In this work, Al–Mg–Si/Al–Zn–Mg laminated composite sheets were successfully produced first time by combining AA6082and AA7204 sheets through the cross accumulative roll bonding process. Two different starting materials were rolling bondedas alternate layers up to 8 rolling cycles with 408 °C pre-heating for 20 min before each cycle. In-situ corrosive surface wascharacterized by the electron backscattered diffraction to study the relationship between the grain orientation and the corrosionbehavior of Al–Mg–Si/Al–Zn–Mg composite sheets. 78.2% of the volume fraction of S-type ({123} <634>) texture,46.0% of R-Cubic-type ({001} <110>) texture and 18.8% of Brass-type ({110} <112>) texture reduced during in situ corrosivetests. Corrosion results indicated that the excellent corrosion resistance mainly contributed from grains near Brass-typetexture ({110} <112>). As the volume fraction of the Brass-type ({110} <112>) texture distributed in the Al–Zn–Mg alloyaround the interface increased from 0.18 to 4.16% with the rolling reduction increased from 93.7 to 99.2%, the corrosionresistance of the laminated rolling material improved.

Mechanism of Ductility Enhancement of the Mg-8Gd-4Y-1Nd-0.5Si Alloy by Multi-Directional Forging Process before Extrusion

        Manfa Yuan,Jin Zhang,Yunlai Deng,Xiaobin Guo,Liqun Guan 대한금속·재료학회 2023 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.29 No.5

Noteworthy ductility Mg-8Gd-4Y-1Nd-0.5Si (wt.%) alloy with a strong non-basal texture was developed by 12 passes ofmulti-directional forging (MDF) combine with extrusion. The slip trace analysis indicated that deformation mechanism after3 passes of MDF and extrusion were basal < a > , pyramidal < a > and pyramidal < c + a > slips. The intensity of non-basaltexture increased from 5.37 to 8.03 with the MDF passes increased from 3 to 12, which means grain orientation tends tobe more consistent and makes the basal < a > slips easy to pass through grain boundaries to accommodate ductility. Withmore basal < a > slips crossing the grain boundaries, dislocation interaction in grain interior caused stress accumulation, exceeding the critical shear stress (CRSS) of slips with low schmidt factor (SF), and multiple slips appeared. The activationof slip cross grain boundary and multiple slip improved the elongation from 14.7% to 25.6% of MDFs-extruded Mg-8Gd-4Y-1Nd-0.5Si alloy.

      • Simple fabrication of N-doped mesoporous TiO 2 nanorods with the enhanced visible light photocatalytic activity

        Zhou, Xiufeng,Lu, Juan,Jiang, Jingjing,Li, Xiaobin,Lu, Mengna,Yuan, Guotao,Wang, Zuoshan,Zheng, Min,Seo, Hyo Jin Springer 2014 NANOSCALE RESEARCH LETTERS Vol.9 No.1

<P>N-doped mesoporous TiO2 nanorods were fabricated by a modified and facile sol–gel approach without any templates. Ammonium nitrate was used as a raw source of N dopants, which could produce a lot of gasses such as N2, NO2, and H2O in the process of heating samples. These gasses were proved to be vitally important to form the special mesoporous structure. The samples were characterized by the powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, nitrogen adsorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and UV-visible absorption spectra. The average length and the cross section diameter of the as-prepared samples were <I>ca</I>. 1.5 μm and ca. 80 nm, respectively. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution. The N-doped mesoporous TiO2 nanorods showed an excellent photocatalytic activity, which may be attributed to the enlarged surface area (106.4 m2 g-1) and the narrowed band gap (2.05 eV). Besides, the rod-like photocatalyst was found to be easy to recycle.</P>

A novel stricture prevention technique in blunt urethral injury: A multi-center retrospective observational study

        Yang Mi,Jingyu Wang,Jinfeng Wu,Xiaopeng Wang,Bin Yang,Ruimin Ren,Yangang Zhang,Xiaobin Yuan,Xuhui Zhang 대한비뇨의학회 2022 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.63 No.1

Purpose: Bulbar injury is the most common type of urethral injury. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of a novel technique, local urethral flushing, in preventing stricture formation after blunt bulbar urethra injuries. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 205 males diagnosed with straddle injury-induced bulbar urethra injury at the Shanxi Bethune Hospital and First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University between January 2015 and January 2019. Patients were diagnosed by retrograde urethrography and classified as partial or complete urethral rupture according to the urethral integrity after injury. Complete urethral rupture patients received suprapubic cystostomy and received urethroplasty 3 months later. Patients with partial urethral rupture underwent endoscopic urethral realignment by cystoscopic guide-wire guided catheterization. Patients with both injury types were divided into 3 groups. The treatment groups received urethral flushing with 0.05% dexamethasone through a secondary ureteral catheter that locked at the urethral lesion. The blank control groups received normal saline. The negative control groups had only a single ureteral catheter placed. Patients were assessed for pain during catheterization, infection, and stenosis, and followed for at least 2 years. Results: Stenosis rates and length were significantly reduced in the normal saline groups, and even further reduced in the dexamethasone groups. The negative control groups had significantly higher infection rates than patients in the dexamethasone or saline groups. Conclusions: Local urethral flushing with dexamethasone could significantly decrease urethral stenosis rates and severity without increasing patients’ discomfort or infection risk.
