Enhancement of the Polar Coercive Force for Annealed Co/Ir(111) Ultrathin Films

        Wen-Yuan Chan,Du-Cheng Tsai,Wei-Hsiang Chen,Cheng-Hsun-Tony Chang,Jyh-Shen Tsay 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12

The alloy formation and the magnetic properties of Co/Ir(111) ultrathin films have been investigated. As the temperature is increased above 400 K, interdiffusion of Co and the Ir substrate occurs. Due to a compositional change in the surface layers, the polar coercive force is greatly enhanced. At temperatures above 600 K, magnetic hysteresis appears only in the polar configuration. Thisshows that the easy axis of the magnetization of Co/Ir(111) may be stabilized in the direction ofthe surface normal by thermal-annealing treatments. From systematic investigations of Co/Ir(111)ultrathin films thinner than 4 monolayers, a magnetic phase diagram has been established. Accordingto the compositional changes and related magnetic properties, the phase diagram can beseparated into three regions. In region I at temperatures below 400 K, Co films are ferromagnetic. In region II where atomic interdiffusion occurs in the surface layers, an enhanced polar coerciveforce is observed. The phase transition from phase I to II is related to the interdiffusion betweenthe Co overlayer and the iridium substrate. In region III for low coverage or at high temperatures,a nonferromagnetic behavior is observed. The phase transition from phase II to III is mainly dueto the reduced atomic percent of cobalt in the Co-Ir alloy and to the lowered Curie temperaturecaused by a reduction in the thickness of the magnetic layers.

Long Noncoding RNA FBXL19-AS1-Mediated Ulcerative Colitis-Associated Intestinal Epithelial Barrier Defect

        Zhao Xun,Cui De-Jun,Yang Liu-chan,Yuan Wen-Qiang,Yan Fang 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2022 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.19 No.5

BACKGROUND: This study commenced to uncover the role of long non-coding RNA FBXL19 antisense RNA 1 (FBXL19-AS1) in the development of ulcerative colitis (UC) and its possible mechanism. METHODS: FBXL19-AS1 expression in the colonic sigmoid mucosa of UC patients was detected. A colitis model was induced in mice using 5% dextran sodium sulfate. Hematoxylin–eosin staining was performed for histopathological examination. Apoptosis was detected by Tunel staining and tissue fibrosis was detected by immunohistochemistry. Also, intestinal permeability was examined. The concentrations of inflammatory factors IL-1b and IL-18 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The relationship between FBXL19-AS1, miR-339-3p and RHOB was verified by RNA immunoprecipitation assay and dual luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS: The expression of FBXL19-AS1 was increased in dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis mouse model. FBXL19-AS1 interference or miR-339-3p overexpression inhibited DSS-induced colonic epithelial cell apoptosis and inflammatory response, and improved intestinal epithelial barrier defects, thereby ameliorating DSS-induced colitis injury in mice. FBXL19-AS1 sponged miR-339-3p while miR-339-3p targeted RHOB. Overexpression of RHOB reversed the protective effect of inhibition of FBXL19-AS1 on DSS-induced colitis in mice. CONCLUSION: FBXL19-AS1 reduces miR-339-3p-mediated targeting of RHOB and aggravates intestinal epithelial barrier defect in DSS-induced colitis in mice.

      • Haloactinobacterium album gen. nov., sp. nov., a halophilic actinobacterium, and proposal of Ruaniaceae fam. nov.

        Tang, Shu-Kun,Zhi, Xiao-Yang,Wang, Yun,Wu, Jin-Yuan,Lee, Jae-Chan,Kim, Chang-Jin,Lou, Kai,Xu, Li-Hua,Li, Wen-Jun Microbiology Society 2010 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.60 No.9

<P>A Gram-staining-positive, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile and moderately halophilic actinobacterium, designated YIM 93306T, was isolated from a salt lake in Xinjiang province, north-west China, and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. Strain YIM 93306T grew in the presence of 2-16 % (w/v) NaCl and did not grow without NaCl. The peptidoglycan type was A4<I>α</I> with an l-Lys-l-Glu interpeptide bridge. The whole-cell sugars were glucosamine, arabinose, mannose and two unknown sugars. The predominant menaquinone was MK-8(H4). The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0. The polar lipids comprised diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, one unknown phosphoglycolipid and one unknown phospholipid. The DNA G+C content was 68.3 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain YIM 93306T fell within the radius of the suborder <I>Micrococcineae</I>. Its closest phylogenetic neighbour was the type strain of <I>Ruania albidiflava</I> (AS 4.3142T; 96.2 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), the sole recognized species of the genus <I>Ruania</I>. Sequence similarities between strain YIM 93306T and members of other genera of the suborder <I>Micrococcineae</I> were <95.2 %. On the basis of phylogenetic analysis, phenotypic characteristics and chemotaxonomic differences, a novel genus and species, <I>Haloactinobacterium album</I> gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed. The type strain of the species is YIM 93306T (=DSM 21368T =KCTC 19413T =CCTCC AB 208069T). Based on phylogenetic characteristics and 16S rRNA gene signature nucleotide patterns, the genera <I>Ruania</I> and <I>Haloactinobacterium</I> gen. nov. are proposed to belong to a novel family, <I>Ruaniaceae</I> fam. nov.</P>

Characterization and Antioxidant Activity of Released Exopolysaccharide from Potential Probiotic Leuconostoc mesenteroides LM187

        ( Qing Zhang ),( Jie Wang ),( Qing Sun ),( Shu-ming Zhang ),( Xiang-yang Sun ),( Chan-yuan Li ),( Miao-xin Zheng ),( Wen-liang Xiang ),( Jie Tang ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2021 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.31 No.8

A released exopolysaccharide (rEPS)-producing strain (LM187) with good acid resistance, bile salt resistance, and cholesterol-lowering properties was isolated from Sichuan paocai and identified as Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides. The purified rEPS, designated as rEPS414, had a uniform molecular weight of 7.757 × 105 Da. Analysis of the monosaccharide composition revealed that the molecule was mainly composed of glucose. The Fourier transform-infrared spectrum showed that rEPS414 contained both α-type and β-type glycosidic bonds. 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectra analysis showed that the purified rEPS contained arabinose, galactose, and rhamnose, but less uronic acid. Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that the exopolysaccharide displayed a large number of scattered, fluffy, porous cellular network flake structures. In addition, rEPS414 exhibited strong in vitro antioxidant activity. These results showed that strain LM187 and its rEPS are promising probiotics with broad prospects in industry.
