THE EVOLUTION OF ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY DESIGN
Miguel Ángel Castro Tirado,Alberto J. Castro-Tirado 한국천문학회 2019 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.52 No.4
This work addresses the development of the astronomical observatory all through history, from an architectural point of view, as a building in relation to the observing instruments and their functioning as a heterogeneous work center. We focused on 32 observatories (in the period 1259–2007) and carefully analyzed the architectures. Considering the impact of the construction itself or its facilities on the results of the research (thermal or structural stability, poor weather protection, turbulence, etc.), there is little attention paid to theories or studies of the architectural or construction aspects of the observatories. Therefore, this work aims to present a theoretical-critical contribution that, at least, invites the reflection of those involved in the development of astronomical observatories in the future.

Through an exploration of oral history and ethnographic material, this article makes a comparative examination of the life-trajectories of students from Yemen, Iraq, and Afghanistan who studied in Russia (Moscow) during the late 1980s, and from Tajikistan, Iran, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia who studied in China in the 2000s. In contrast to the cohort of students in Moscow who were mainly men from places with relatively amicable relations with the USSR, the female students of Muslim background from West and Central Asia regarded China as a place where they could pursue fulfilling forms of economic and personal autonomy. By comparing these two groups of international students, this article sheds light into the nature of historical, geographical and geopolitical connections and disconnections between West-Central Asia, Eurasia (especially Russia) and East Asia (especially China). By centring its attention to the demise of Soviet/Russian education and the emergence of China as a figure of economic prosperity, the article theorises West-Central Asia as a particular arena of interaction suitable to comprehend the networks, ‘third spaces’ or zones of interaction (e.g. Moscow and Yiwu), and forms of connection fostered by these students’ trajectories.
All about that fat: Lipid modification of proteins in Cryptococcus neoformans
Felipe H. Santiago-Tirado,Tamara L. Doering 한국미생물학회 2016 The journal of microbiology Vol.54 No.3
Lipid modification of proteins is a widespread, essential process whereby fatty acids, cholesterol, isoprenoids, phospholipids, or glycosylphospholipids are attached to polypeptides. These hydrophobic groups may affect protein structure, function, localization, and/or stability; as a consequence such modifications play critical regulatory roles in cellular systems. Recent advances in chemical biology and proteomics have allowed the profiling of modified proteins, enabling dissection of the functional consequences of lipid addition. The enzymes that mediate lipid modification are specific for both the lipid and protein substrates, and are conserved from fungi to humans. In this article we review these enzymes, their substrates, and the processes involved in eukaryotic lipid modification of proteins. We further focus on its occurrence in the fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans, highlighting unique features that are both relevant for the biology of the organism and potentially important in the search for new therapies.
Quality of Life and Psychological Well-Being in Obesity Management
Miguel Á,ngel Rojo Tirado 계명대학교 간호과학연구소 2017 계명간호과학 Vol.20 No.3
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review the Quality of Life and Psychological Well-Being in Obesity Management. Methods: Literature on psychological and behavioral issues in obesity treatment was explored. Results: Obesity is rapidly becoming one of the most important health concerns in developed countries worldwide. The increasing prevalence of obesity places significant burdens on individuals and healthcare systems. In addition to its clear clinical effects, obesity carries a substantial burden in personal terms, as measured by reduced daily functioning, and by general, health-related and obesity-specific quality-of- life (QoL) metrics. QoL has been defined as the effect of medical conditions on well being and physical and mental function, reflecting the functional effects of a disease as perceived by the patient. Hence, individuals living with obesity are subject to considerable stigma, which they may internalize and experience as shame, depression and anxiety. The negative impact of obesity on the four main domains of QOL(physical health, mental health, social functioning, and vocational functioning) largely outweighs physical symptoms and its associated co-morbidities, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and coronary heart disease. Obesity per se is a cause of discrimination in several areas of social life. Psychological disturbances, frequently observed in obese people, are likely to further impair the perceived health status. Conclusion: A quantitative measurement of QOL (including the physical and mental dimensions) is critical in defining strategies to improve patients’ reported outcomes.

Drug delivery and release systems using stimuli-responsive nanostructures based on amphiphilic copolymers have gained great importance. In this work copolymers from oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA) and di(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (DEGMA) as thermo-responsive moiety and block copolymers incorporating N,N′-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DEAEM) as pH-responsive one, were synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) using 5-amino-4-methyl-4-(propylthiocarbonothioylthio)- 5-oxo pentanoic acid as chain transfer agent (CTA). The number average molecular weights (Mn), and dispersity Đ confirmed a good RAFT control. Polymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy using a attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and Turbidimetry. Their self-assembly behavior is described by its hydrodynamic diameter (Dh), its ζ-potential and as well as its cloud point temperature (Tcp). The results showed thermo-responsive and pH-responsive systems with Tcp in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) pH=7.4 around 37 and 42℃ the isoelectric point was found in a pH range between 7.0 and 7.5, further the critical micelle concentration (CMC) indicated very low values between 5.85 to 4.20 × 10-4 mg mL-1. The developed block copolymeric systems have potential to be used for drug transport and delivery.

I Can Not Wear My Sunglasses: An Unusual Sarcoidosis Presentation
José Pablo Miramontes González,Virginia Velasco Tirado,Pablo González García,Marta Sánchez García,Ángeles Fidalgo Fernández 대한가정의학회 2017 Korean Journal of Family Medicine Vol.38 No.4
A 39-year-old Caucasian man was referred to University Hospital Salamanca from a primary care unit due to the presence of an erythematous violaceous nodule at the superior portion of his nose. Physical examination indicated that the firm, fixed erythematous violaceous nodule measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and was located in-ferior to a scar on the nasal bridge. Cutaneous involvement in sarcoidosis occurs in 25% of cases. A wide range of clinical presentations of cutaneous sarcoidosis is recognized. Skin lesions are classified as either non-specific, of which erythema nodosum is the most representative and specific, or as granulomatous, which includes maculo-papular nodules, plaques, infiltrated scars, lupus pernio, ulcerations, warty lesions and erythroderma. Scar sarcoid-osis is a type of cutaneous sarcoidosis.

Purpose: This report aimed to review the literature on the research topic "Imports and exports between Colombia and Asian countries in the framework of logistics processes in international trade" of the last ten years. Research design, data and methodology: Documents indexed in the Web of Science metasearch engine were used as a source of information. The 500 most relevant downloaded in bibTex format were worked on and their processing was carried out using the statistical software Excel and R, through the Bibliometrix package. Results: The results indicate that the country that makes the most contributions to the research area is the United States (274), the author that publishes the most is Bahmani-Oskooee M., with (11) research, 424 of the documents found are journal articles, and the institution that contributes the most in this area is the University of Wisconsin. Conclusions: It is concluded that scientific production within the framework of international trade between Asia and Colombia has had a notable increase, which can be explained by the opening of both continents as strategic allies and the new vision of logistics processes taking advantage of the strategic location of countries within the Pacific Ocean.
