The quenching temperature drop curve for Q345B steel plate with 84 mm and 170 mm thickness was tested to analyze the distributing regularities and influencing factors of cooling speed for ultra-thick steel plate during the jet impinging and quenching process. The influences for temperature drop, temperature gradient and cooling speed were analyzed under the conditions of 60~100 m3/h water amount, 0.4~1.0 MPa water pressure, transient switching of quenching mode and the distribution of heat exchanger. Threedimensional heat anti transfer model, surface heat transfer coefficient model and thermal physical parameter model were built up by finite element and optimization. The results showed that the deviation of calculated and measured values was less than 4% for temperature drop curve model. The cooling speed of vertical section for 84 mm-thick steel plate was approximately proportional to surface heat transfer coefficient. The influence of surface heat transfer to cooling speed became weak when the thickness was increased. The influences of temperature effect when switching different quenching modes and temperature gradient of vertical section to cooling speed were stronger. The minimum value of cooling speed was about 1.0~1.8oC/s, between H/6 and H/3 region. These data provide the key information for increasing the cooling speed and uniformity.

Automatic growth monitoring of plants technique is crucial for the development of biodiversity and innovative agriculture. Traditional manual recording mode is more complicated and time-consuming, which requires professional skills and expertise background, which is comparatively difficult for non-expert users. In this paper, the fuzzy logic inference method is adopted to estimate the growth quality of plant based on leaf area, leaf number, and the contour area of plant. The image processing technique is employed to conduct plant morphological measurement, including hue of transformation, edge detection, and color histogram. The proposed system has been tested and evaluated successfully in a plant growth chamber. The results show that the estimation error of proposed system is in the range of acceptance for plant quality modeling.

This study was conducted to investigate enhancement of anti-tumor effects of the lentogenic Newcastle disease virus Clone30 strain (NDV rClone30) expressing cytosine deaminase (CD) gene against tumor cells and in murine groin tumor-bearing models. Cytotoxic effects of the rClone30-CD/5-FC on the HepG2 cell line were examined by an MTT method. Anti-tumor activity of rClone30-CD/5-FC was examined in H22 tumor-bearing mice. Compared to the rClone30-CD virus treatment alone, NDV rClone30-CD/5-FC at 0.1 and 1 MOIs exerted significant cytotoxic effects (P<0.05) on HepG2 cells. For treatment of H22 tumor-bearing mice, recombinant NDV was injected together with 5-FC given by either intra-tumor injection or tail vein injection. When 5-FC was administered by intra-tumor injection, survival for the rClone30-CD/5-FC-treated mice was 4/6 for 80 days period vs 1/6, 0/6 and 0/6 for the mice treated with rClone30-CD, 5-FC and saline alone, respectively. When 5-FC was given by tail vein injection, survival for the rClone30-CD/5-FC-treated mice was 3/6 vs 2/6, 0/6 and 0/6 for the mice treated with rClone30-CD, 5-FC or saline alone, respectively. In this study, NDV was used for the first time to deliver the suicide gene for cancer therapy. Incorporation of the CD gene in the lentogenic NDV genome together with 5-FC significantly enhances cell death of HepG2 tumor cells in vitro, decreases tumor volume and increases survival of H22 tumor-bearing mice in vivo.

A hydro-mechanic model was put forward to study the fundamental nature of acupuncture meridians. The basic state of low hydraulic resistance was tested on humans and mini pigs using three methods. The first, a modified Guyton’s method, proved that there was lower hydraulic resistance on meridians compared with nonmeridians. The second scanning method involved a single pressure transducer that can find the lowest resistance point in tissue, and the third method used two transducers and provided a more stable measurement. Using the latter method, low hydraulic resistance points were found very close to low impedance points along meridians. The transmission of artificial interstitial fluid pressure waves was measured to examine their connection to the low resistance points, with the result that a good connection between the points was confirmed. This means the points form channels along the meridians that we refer to as low hydraulic resistance channels. The channel was imaged through isotopic tracing and a migration of isotope 99mTe could be found along the channel. The layer of the channel was detected by injecting Alcian blue and the track was found beneath the skin. All of the above experiments suggest the existence of a new type of channel in living tissues that has not yet been described in modern science, but coincides quite well with the Qi channel theory of traditional Chinese medicine.
