Structural Design and Performance Evaluation of a Mid-story Seismic Isolated High-Rise Building
Tamari, Masatoshi,Yoshihara, Tadashi,Miyashita, Masato,Ariyama, Nobuyuki,Nonoyama, Masataka Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat Korea 2017 International journal of high-rise buildings Vol.6 No.3
This paper describes some of the challenges for structural design of a mid-story seismic isolated high-rise building, which is located near Tokyo station, completed in 2015. The building is a mixed-use complex and encompasses three volumes: one substructure including basement and lower floors, and a pair of seismic isolated superstructures on the substructure. One is a 136.5m high Main Tower (office use), and the other is a 98.5 m high South Tower (hotel use). The seismic isolation systems are arranged in the $3^{rd}$ floor of the Main Tower and $5^{th}$ floor of the South Tower, so that we call this isolation system as the mid-story seismic isolation. The primary goal of the structural design of this building was to secure high seismic safety against the largest earthquake expected in Tokyo. We adopted optimal seismic isolation equipment simulated by dynamic analysis to minimize building damage. On the other hand, wind-induced vibration of a seismic isolated high-rise building tends to be excited. To reduce the vibration, the following strategies were adopted respectively. In the Main Tower with a large wind receiving area, we adopted a mechanism that locks oil dampers at the isolation level during strong wind. In the South Tower, two tuned mass dampers (TMDs) are installed at the top of the building to control the vibration. In addition, our paper will also report the building performance evaluated for wind and seismic observation after completion of the building. In 2016, an earthquake of seismic intensity 3 (JMA scale) occurred twice in Tokyo. The acceleration reduction rate of the seismic isolation level due to these earthquakes was approximately 30 to 60%. These are also verified by dynamic analysis using observed acceleration data. Also, in April 2016, a strong wind exceeding the speed of 25m/s occurred in Tokyo. On the basis of the record at the strong wind, we confirmed that the locking mechanism of oil damper worked as designed.
Selenium Content of Infant Formulas and Estimated Intake of Infants in Japan and Korea
Yuzo Tamari,Eul-Sang Kim,Kyu-Han Lee 한국식품영양과학회 1998 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.3 No.3
Selenium contents of infant formulas that were commercially available in Japan and Korea were determined by the method of atomic absorption spectrometry with hydride generation. Total means of selenium contents were 45.2±22.1 ng/g (n=34) in all the Japanese formulas and 58.3±18.9 ng/g (n=22) in all the Korean formulas. Selenium contents of milk-based formulas (54.7±23.2 ng/g in Japan, n=20 and 64.8±12.6 ng/g in Korea, n=18) were significantly higher than those of soy-based formulas (36.8±10.2 ng/g in Japanese brands, n=3 and 26.6±16.2 ng/g in Korean ones, n=3) and special-use fomulas (30.1±11.0 ng/g in Japanese brands, n=11 and 36.4 ng/g in Korean one, n=1). Based on selenium data of these formulas the selenium intakes of infants have been estimated to be about 6.6 ㎍/day in Japanese and 8.1 ㎍/day in Korean by milk-based formula feeding.

Purpose: Dental floss clip (DFC) traction-assisted endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is widely performed owing to its simplicity. This study aimed to clarify the appropriate indications for the DFC traction method in early gastric cancer when ESD is performed by less-experienced endoscopists. Methods and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 1,014 consecutive patients who had undergone gastric ESD performed by less-experienced endoscopists between January 2015 and December 2020. Gastric ESD was performed without DFC in all cases before December 2017 [DFC (−) group, 376 cases], and ESD was performed with DFC in all cases after January 2018 [DFC (+) group, 436 cases]. The procedure time and rates of en bloc resection, complete resection, and adverse events of the groups were compared. Results: The procedure time did not differ significantly between the 2 groups. However, when comparing lesions >20 mm, the procedure time in the DFC (+) group was significantly shorter than that in the DFC (−) group (95±46 vs. 75±31, P<0.01). The procedure time for lesions located in the greater curvature of the upper or middle stomach and lesions >20 mm located in the lesser curvature side of the stomach in the DFC (+) group was significantly shorter than that in the DFC (−) group. Conclusions: The indications for DFC during gastric ESD by less-experienced endoscopists include lesions located in the greater curvature of the upper or middle stomach, and lesions >20 mm located in the lesser curvature of the stomach.
Structural Design of Vibration Controlled Tall Building with Overhang Structure
Ishibashi, Yoji,Yoshizawa, Katsuhito,Ogawa, Ichiro,Tamari, Masatoshi,Nagayama, Kenji,Oki, Hatsuka Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat Korea 2019 International journal of high-rise buildings Vol.8 No.3
This paper describes the structural design of a 212 m tall building currently under construction in the Tokiwabashi District Redevelopment Project facing Tokyo Station. In this project there was a requirement to rationally solve many issues arising from the conditions of the redevelopment project. In particular, the following two points were considered to be important from the point of view of structural design. 1) To provide an overhang frame with the perimeter columns on the lower stories inclined, in order to enable a typical floor area that greatly exceeded the limitations of the underground structure shape. 2) To provide high grade seismic performance for the office buildings to be constructed on prime city center land. LSCVCS (Lower Stories Concentrated Vibration Control System) was proposed as the method of rationally designing the overhang frame, which is an extremely disadvantageous element in the structural scheme of the tall building with a large slenderness ratio. LSCVCS is a system to provide effective damping by arranging vibration control devices in a concentrated manner in a lower story with large story height, that produces large deformation in an earthquake. Also, the vibration control devices arranged in the lower story are limited to viscous devices, to take into consideration the residual deformation of the overhang frame after an earthquake. The results of investigations into the specific effects of the system for the seismic design are reported, including Performance-based seismic design.
Selenium Intake in Breast - fed Infants during Course of Lactation
Eul-Sang Kim,Hae-Kyoung Keum,Yuzo Tamari 한국식품영양과학회 1996 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.1 No.2
The purposes of this study were to investigate selenium content of human milk and selenium intake of breast-fed infants at each period of lactation longitudinally. The human milk intake in breast-fed infants was measured by test-weighing method from 20 lactating mothers at 1, 2 and 3 months postpartum. Selenium content in the milk was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry with hydride generation after wet digestion of samples. Selenium intake in breast-fed infants was calculated by multiplying human milk intakes by selenium contents. The milk intakes were 640, 726 and 715g/day at 1, 2 and 3 months postpartum. The selenium contents in human milk were characterized by a pattern of slight decline with advancing stage of lactation: 13.1, 11.5 and 9.8㎍/L at 1,2 and 3 months during lactation. There was a large individual variation at any stage of this study. The mean dietary selenium intakes in breast-fed infants were 8.38, 8.35 and 6.98㎍/day at 1, 2 and 3 months postpartum, respectively. The mean daily intakes on a body weight basis were gradually decreased during the course of lactation.

Kim, K.W.,Myers, R.A.,Lee, J.H.,Igartua, C.,Lee, K.E.,Kim, Y.H.,Kim, E.J.,Yoon, D.,Lee, J.S.,Hirota, T.,Tamari, M.,Takahashi, A.,Kubo, M.,Choi, J.M.,Kim, K.E.,Nicolae, D.L.,Ober, C.,Sohn, M.H. Mosby 2015 The Journal of allergy and clinical immunology Vol.136 No.3
Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a heterogeneous chronic inflammatory skin disease. Most AD during infancy resolves during childhood, but moderate-to-severe AD with allergic sensitization is more likely to persist into adulthood and more often occurs with other allergic diseases. Objective: We sought to find susceptibility loci by performing the first genome-wide association study (GWAS) of AD in Korean children with recalcitrant AD, which was defined as moderate-to-severe AD with allergic sensitization. Methods: Our study included 246 children with recalcitrant AD and 551 adult control subjects with a negative history of both allergic disease and allergic sensitization. DNA from these subjects was genotyped; sets of common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were imputed and used in the GWAS after quality control checks. Results: SNPs at a region on 13q21.31 were associated with recalcitrant AD at a genome-wide threshold of significance (P < 2.0 x 10-8). These associated SNPs are more than 1 Mb from the closest gene, protocadherin (PCDH)9. SNPs at 4 additional loci had P values of less than 1 x 10-6, including SNPs at or near the neuroblastoma amplified sequence (NBAS; 2p24.3), thymus-expressed molecule involved in selection (THEMIS; 6q22.33), GATA3 (10p14), and S-phase cyclin A-associated protein in the ER (SCAPER; 15q24.3) genes. Further analysis of total serum IgE levels suggested 13q21.31 might be primarily an IgE locus, and analyses of published data demonstrated that SNPs at the 15q24.3 region are expression quantitative trait loci for 2 nearby genes, ISL2 and proline-serine-threonine phosphatase interacting protein 1 (PSTPIP1), in immune cells. Conclusion: Our GWAS of recalcitrant AD identified new susceptibility regions containing genes involved in epithelial cell function and immune dysregulation, 2 key features of AD, and potentially extend our understanding of their role in pathogenesis.
